Ochen K. releases A-Series 1 & 2 Modular Synth Rack Extensions

Ochen K. has released A-Series 1 and A-Series 2, two modular synthesizer Rack Extensions for Propellerhead Reason.

Ochen K A-Series 1 and 2 modular synths
The A-Series 1 and 2 modular synth Rack Extensions by Ochen K.

The A-Series Modular Synth is the first fully modular synth for Reason, where you can design your synths however you want for whatever sound you can imagine. And because all the modules are mix-and-match, all those Reason effects and devices that you already have can go right inside your custom synth.

A-Series Modular Synth features

  • The A-Series 1 rack extension contains the following modules:
    • A-19SEQ – A midi-to-CV converter, receiving midi signals from a midi keyboard or the Reason sequencer, of from rack sequencers like the Matrix, and converts the signals into CV (note) data and gate (velocity) data. These signals can then be routed to control any other device, such as a VCO or envelope generator.
    • A-11VCO – A voltage controlled oscillator generating four waveforms – saw, square, triangle, and sine – all at the same time. The A-11VCO has a 7-octave range with coarse and fine tuning, can accept and mix a second pitch modulation signal to create FM-like effects, and can modulate the pulse width of square waves. Each parameter can be controlled by CV input.
    • A-14ADSR – An envelope generator with three speed ranges and standard attack, decay, sustain, and release parameters. Each parameter can be controlled by CV input.
    • A-13VCA – A voltage controlled amplifier allowing multiple signals to control a sound’s gate shape, with two gain CV ins and a two-in audio mixer. Each parameter can be controlled by CV input.
    • A-14LFO – An LFO with four signal waveforms – saw, square, triangle, and sine, three cycle speed ranges, with both free-running and tempo-synced cycles, and pulse width modulation of the square wave signal. Each parameter can be controlled by CV input.
  • The A-Series 2 rack extension contains the following modules:
    • A-19POLY – A polyphonic to monophonic splitter allowing for the creation of polyphonic synths. The A-19POLY supports up to eight voices, each with independent gate and CV data, and three note assign modes: lowest first, sequential (round robin), and random.
    • A-14SH – A sample and hold module allowing the sampling of CV data and holding that sample constant until a new sample period is triggered.
    • A-11NOISE – An audio noise generator and a random CV generator. The audio noise generator can generate white noise, pink noise, brown noise, and any blend in between. Each parameter can be controlled by CV input.
    • A-12VCF – A voltage controlled filter with a four-poll high-pass and low-pass filter, a band-pass filter when used in combination, and CV control over each frequency cutoff.
    • A-11RM – A ring modulator taking two audio signals and modulating them to produce a single audio result.
    • A-13MIXER – A six channel mixer with six audio ins and one master audio out. The level of each in and out can be controlled by CV signals.

The A-Series Rack Extensions are available to purchase for 7.50 EUR each.

Zero-G Pure Rex

Time+Space has announced the release of Pure Rex, a sound library from Zero-G.

Zero-G Pure Rex is a definitive collection of more than 3,000 professionally-produced REX files spanning a huge range of genres and styles of music.

From Electro, Disco, Urban and Metal to Chillout, Trance, World and plenty of weird and wonderful experimental sounds, Pure Rex is crammed with inspiration to give you a massive creative boost.

The high quality sounds in Pure Rex have all been carefully handpicked from 34 top selling Zero-G/Xfonic libraries including Ian Boddy’s Odyssey, House Fabrik, Disco Gold, Club Classics, Brazil Chillout and Indian Dance Classics to name just a few.

Why Rex files?
Rex files are one of the most flexible formats to work with! REX files are loops that are divided into slices using Propellerhead’s ReCycle software application. This means that when you’re using REX files in your music, you can slow down or speed up the tempo and the REX file will follow.

You can also trigger the individual slices of a REX file loop independently of each other to create your own rhythms and riffs. REX files work with a wide variety of software applications like Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Sonar, Live and Spectrasonics Stylus RMX.

Pure Rex is available to purchase as a download exclusively from Time+Space, priced at RRP: £39.95 GBP / 47.95 EUR / $63.95 USD.

Les Productions Zvon releases Marching Band Horn for Kontakt

Les Productions Zvon has released Marching Band Horn, a sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt 4.

Les Productions Zvon Marching Band Horn
The Marching Band Horn instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

The exact name of this instrument is unknown. It uses a French horn mouthpiece and the range is a little lower than a trumpet and a little higher than a trombone. To make most of the instruments in this set Les Productions Zvon played single notes and resynthesized them to create multi-samples. In all cases the resulting tone is still very brassy and close to the natural one.

Some samples are time stretched so this library is not meant to emulate the real instrument. It’s a simple library without velocity layers or alternate samples but it is great for adding a horn flavor and also providing a wider range of uses, a good way to add brassy sounds to your compositions at a very low cost. The sounds range from smooth and mellow to hard hitting and growling, from staccatos and stabs to sustained pads.

In the full version, the programs are in 2 main folders, “01 Natural” and “02 Transformed”. The programs in the first folder play the samples as they are except for the added Kontakt reverb. The second folder contains instruments made with Kontakt’s tone or time machines engines. The “01 Natural” folder contains 38 single instruments, 6 combis and 6 multis. The “02 Transformed” folder contains 13 single instruments and 7 multis. Two scripts are included.

Marching Band Horn for Kontakt (full version required) is available to purchase for $2.49 USD. A Caustic 2 (Android) version is also available.
