9 Soundware Heartbeat

9 Soundware has released Heartbeat, an instrument in EXS24 format.

The sound set was constructed from samples of human heartbeat recordings, which were enhanced for drum-like punch. The percussive instrument features sounds of pulses resembling kick drums, as well as other internal organ activity.

Heartbeat features

  • Based on 224 samples, captured using an electronic stethoscope, which is more sensitive and capable of capturing quieter sounds compared to acoustic stethoscopes.
  • In addition to heartbeats, which can augment or be used as an alternative to kick drums, also included are samples of the abdomen and a wide variety of sounds created by manipulating the stethoscope.
  • Samples are arranged by velocity (1 to 19 levels), and mapped across an 8 octave range in an EXS24 instrument.
  • 24 MB download includes 1 .EXS file and 402 WAV files (24-bit/44.1 kHz).

Heartbeat is available now for $29.99 USD.

9 Soundware releases Thrash

9 Soundware Thrash

9 Soundware has releaed Thrash, a set of instruments for the EXS24 sampler within Apple Logic Pro.

The underlying theme for the sound set is HEADROOM DECIMATING AUDIO. Extreme waveforms were created with one goal and one goal only: To see how gut-wrenchingly jarring and intense sound could be. These eardrum-bashing anomalies are not metalhead-friendly sounds. They are not even sound system-friendly sounds. Many of the samples look like bricks when opened with audio editing software.

Thrash features

  • 31 .EXS instruments, based on 100 WAV files (24-bit/44.1 kHz), 30 loops and 70 hits.
  • The source sounds for the samples include performed noise, synthesis, mixer feedback, screaming, and a drum machine. Many of them are likely to be the most sonically abrasive sounds available in a commercial library.
  • In addition to the 128 MB Thrash.exs instrument which uses all 100 samples, included are 30 instruments which make extensive use of the modulation capabilities of the EXS24 mkII sampler. Among them are tempo synced instruments, free-form textural instruments, impact instruments, as well as a massive drum kit with over 70 sounds (Beat Murderer.exs). Many are designed to be played primarily with the modulation and pitch bend wheels (and less so with the keys). As they lend themselves more to performance than step sequencing, a midi controller is highly recommended when using this sound set.

Thrash is available now for $29.99 USD.

9 Soundware releases Beatbox

9 Soundware Beatbox

9 Soundware has released Beatbox, a multi-format set of human beatbox loops.

While it is widely acknowledged as an “extended element of hip-hop”, beatboxing has been a long overlooked craft outside of the culture that is devoted to the art form. These fluid beats can be an old-school, yet refreshing, way to literally humanize quantized drum loops. The 127 loops were chosen from hours of hard-hitting, rapid-fire performances with enough spit to DRENCH a pop filter and drive it to the ground. From slow and steady to fast and furious, these blistering grooves are well suited for a variety of musical situations.

Beatbox features

  • 127 loops (1 to 4 bars in length) at tempos 80, 100, 120, and 140 BPM.
  • All 127 files have been meticulously sliced and turned into REX2 and Apple Loops files.
  • The 184 MB download contains all three formats (24-bit/44.1 kHz) and will work seamlessly with most popular applications including Apple Logic Pro/Express, Propellerheads Reason, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX, and Ableton Live.

Beatbox is available now for $29.99 USD.

9 Soundware Mixer Feedback

9 Soundware has released Mixer Feedback, the third and final release in a series of sample packs featuring DJ Shiftee, the winner of the 2007 DMC World Championships.

These loops showcase DJ Shiftee’s innovative techniques, in which he uses nothing but a mixer to create an astonishing variety of textures. By manipulating a feedback loop with the mixer’s onboard controls, he performs phrases ranging from simple feedback rhythms to blistering walls of noises and bassline-like phrases. The ingenuity behind the unique performance is simply extraordinary and gives new meaning to the phrase ”mixer as a musical instrument”. Created in the spirit of experimental music traditions with the artistry of a world class DJ, these unusual samples would surely make for interesting additions to loop libraries in need of something different.

Mixer Feedback features

  • 131 loops (1 to 4 bars in length).
