Puremagnetik releases free Ableton Live Packs inspired by John Cage

Puremagnetik has announced the release of Hotel Prepared Piano and Amplified Cactus, two free Ableton Live Packs inspired by the experimental, avant-garde composer John Cage.

Amplified Cactus

Amplified Cactus a la John Cage

Puremagnetik’s free Amplified Cactus Pack includes a drum rack of “plucked”, percussive articulations and a multisampled rack of “scraped” sounds. Rocks, grass, paper and feathers are among the exciters used to create these sound varieties.

Amplified Cactus was recorded using a barrel cactus mic’d with TranceAudio surface pickups and a custom built low-noise preamplifier.

Hotel Prepared Piano

Hotel Room Prepared Piano

Whilst abroad in Israel, Puremagnetik sound developer Micah Frank found his hotel room equipped with a vintage upright piano. After a few attempts to create a conventional upright piano recording, the plan was aborted due to outside noise. Instead, Micah jammed paperclips, seashells, twigs and pieces of plastic into the piano strings and recorded two octaves of prepared piano tones and noises.

Puremagnetik’s Prepared Piano is available as a free Ableton Live Pack that includes a multisampled Rack of the two-octave piano and a selection of effects captured during the recording process.

The packs are available to download at no charge.

Detunized 6op KeyPads Live Pack

Detunized has announced the release of 6op KeyPads Live Pack, the first title in a new line of libraries that derive their sounds from 6-Operator FM synthesis. The hardware used for this is the versatile Yamaha TG77 from 1989.

KeyPads Live Pack is the first installment of this new series and puts focus on Keys and Pad sounds.

Containing 40+ Live Rack instruments this pack is made for the keyboardist who just wants to stack layers and for the sound designer likewise. The Racks have a consistent Macro layout so that each sound can be easily tweaked from Keyboard to Pad and back.

Especially the ModSpeed and AudioTranspose Macros – also in conjunction with the Color Macro – reveal unexpected modulation possibilities. With this potential it is easy to create interesting variations of the preset sound.

KeyPads Universal contains 44 different patches in 5 multi-purpose formats that load into Kontakt, Reason, Logic, Dimension, Halion, Directwave and a lot more software samplers. This guarantees for easy handling of your sounds. Included formats: SFZ, NKI, SXT, EXS, FXP

The 6op KeyPads Live Pack and Universal packs are available to purchase for 9 EUR each.

Diego Stocco launches Feedforward Sounds: FFS 01 Rhythmic Processing

Composer, sound designer and performer Diego Stocco has introduced the Rhythmic Processing, the first title in the new “Feedforward Sounds” series of educational videos, based on advanced and experimental sound design techniques.

Diego Stocco Rhythmic Processing

With these videos, I’m sharing with you guys the experience I gained out of years of work and countless hours spent in trying to figure out unique ways to create original sounds and music.

Rhythmic Processing is a technique that allows the creation of multiple rhythmic elements, in real-time, from a single instrumental part.

The dynamic accents of the instrumental part (in this case an acoustic guitar) are routed into several plugin chains, each one creating a separate rhythmic element.

Rhythmic Processing features

  • 10 minute video (H264/720p, 87.2 MB), including:
    • concept behind the technique
    • recording of initial instrumental part
    • setup of the Live session
    • detailed function of each individual plugin chain
    • final performance
    • final notes.

The video is available to purchase for $9.99 USD.
