Dmitry Sches Ambient Voices

Dmitry Sches has released Ambient Voices, a soundbank for the Zebra synthesizer by u-he.

Ambient Voices is a collection of 100 atmospheric patches with a layered moving sound.

The soundset includes expressive ambient soundscapes, complex FX, rich and evolving pads and rhythmic atmospheric sounds. Most of patches have assigned XY controls.

Additionally, some patches combines a fixed frequency sound generation with a traditional tune scaling. This helps Zebra to synthesize sounds with an extra key-dependent timbre.

Ambient Voices Soundset is available to purchase for $20 USD.

Some interesting things I found recently:

# cl516: ProLoop iPhone App by Trapcode

Calvin Cardioid on ProLoop for iPhone:

I've been searching a long time for something like this. It's not on OSX, and it's not an audiounit plugin. It's called ProLoop and I got it for $5 on the iTunes store. It's a very hands-on loop player capable of handling 6 loops at a time. My usual audio clips didn't feel like it was fully explaining what's going on, so be sure to check out the video above for a slightly more in-depth look.

# Fractions of a Second: An Olympic Musical – Interactive Graphic

NYTimes has a cool auralization of crossing the Olympic finish line:

At the Olympics, the blink of an eye can be all that separates the gold medalist from the 10th-place finisher. In some events, this is obvious. But in others, with athletes racing one by one, the closeness of the race is harder to perceive.

TheBlackBox

# TheBlackBox: Release v2.0 – Propeller HSS FX/Sequencer with Digital Audio SPDIF output

The Propeller BlackBox Audio Sequencer is a device for audio waveform creation and a 32 step sequencer.

BlackBox Audio Sequencer features

  • SPDIF audio output or analog output via a switch (not both at the same time).
  • analog output to a monitor(at the same time as spdif/analog output above (headphones or studio speakers) to allow auditioning before outputting live.
  • 3 encoders that allow – BPM, main volume, and BPM jumps(1/3, 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 2/3) and a switch for jump direction. (main volume and bpm jump programming not complete yet).

Osmos

# Exclusive Free Soundtrack: Osmos, Featuring Gas, Julien Neto, Loscil, High Skies

Peter Kirn at Create Digital Music writes:

The independent game Osmos won our hearts in 2009, with transcendent, meditative gameplay built on simulated particle physics, starting as a floating wonderland and ending with some deliciously punishing difficulty. But it’s the soundtrack that sealed the deal: ambient-tinged work by artists like Gas 0095, Julien Neto, Loscil, and High Skies helped us imagine an unseen, microscopic (or perhaps macroscopic) world. Their sonic craft is a great example of what digital music can be. Now, I’m pleased to offer a lot of that music for your listening pleasure, for free. It’s one of the rare game soundtracks you’d want to hear even after having heard it on repeat while solving some of the title’s trickier puzzles. A huge thanks to the artists, whose generosity made this compilation possible – check out their work if you haven’t already.

Some interesting things I found recently:

# Handmade synth senses wireless activity

From Make:

Yoshi Akai's Wireless Catcher analog synth derives control input from nearby wireless signals picked up by an onboard antennae. As if that weren't interesting enough, the copper control panel sports some elegant decorative flourishes typical of his impressive body of work.

# Percussus

A robot drum machine made with midi controlled relays. A PIC microcontroller decodes relay on/off codes from a sequencer program.

nofi - Elsewhere

# nofi – Elsewhere (album preview)

A full preview of the new Nofi album, 'Elsewhere,' to be released on March 4, 2010. This is a return to a more abstract, ambient, chilled-out, laid-back, space lounge sound, featuring six extended pieces:

The music on 'Elsewhere' was created using Ableton Suite 8 with Max for Live, Nodal generative music software, Native Instruments' Reaktor modular sound studio and Massive virtual synth, on an Apple MacBook Pro with Novation ReMOTE ZeRO and Monome greyscale 64 controllers, and a Presonus Firebox audio interface.

Note: This exclusive preview will be available for steaming on SoundCloud only until the album is released.

The Superplexer

# The Superplexus

This is the three-dimensional spherical labyrinth that challenges the limits of your manual dexterity and spatial understanding as you maneuver a 5/8" wooden marble through its entire course.

The Superplexus is a complex network of chicanes, multi-planar hairpin turns, spirals, and staircases–even a vortex. Hand made from 3- and 6-ply Finnish birch that form the track, over 400 hours are involved in its construction. The labyrinth is set inside a 36" diameter acrylic sphere affixed to a Jatoba base using a stainless steel gimbaled mount that allows you to tilt the sphere in any direction to guide the marble.

This lovely puzzle can be yours for a mere $30,000 USD.

QESounds Altered Reality 2 FX

QESounds has released Altered Reality 2 FX, a sample library for Kontakt.

Altered Reality 2 Fx is the second installment in the Altered Reality Fx series. AR2Fx is a bit darker and damper than AR1Fx and has more event/transient Fx.

AR2Fx is a collection of original sounds that have been modified in a number of ways. All of the sounds started out as real-world objects and instruments – some with alternate performance and all with extensive modification. The techniques used to alter the sounds include pitch stretching, convolution, x-fading, sample reverse, spectral morphing, EQ, AM, stereo image manipulation and various other means. No synthesis, re-synthesis or granulation were used. Each sound is assigned it’s own group so that the user can tailor each
sound to their own needs/tastes individually. AR2Fx is targeted at ambient and atmosphere design.

Altered Reality 2 FX is available in various versions:

  • Individual downloads of single instruments/combos in 16bit/44.1KHz/Stereo. Price: $8.33 USD each.
  • Downloads of packs/modules of three instruments/combos in 16bit/44.1KHz/Stereo. Price: $24.99 USD each.
  • 2-DVD set containing all instruments/combos—and a separate time/pitch-stretched instrument for about 99% of the sounds in 24-bit/44.1KHz/Stereo. Price: $99.95 USD.

All three versions include scripted SoundTools, Virtual Layer Remapping scripting and an extended set of convolution presets.

QESounds has also released AR2Fx Freebie, a set of 41 sounds not released in the other AR2Fx packages is also available for free (191 MB download ZIP file).
