Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on Aug 26, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Shattered Glass Audio has announced Ace, a free tube amplifier effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Shattered Glass Audio Ace

Ace is a faithful digital emulation of a legendary 1950s, American, all tube, tweed, 5W amp. We have added to the model two of the most common amplifier mods: adjustment of the amount of feedback and addition of grid stopper resistors, both of which can be turned off for the original amp sound.

For added flexibility, speaker emulation can be switched out in case you want to use a different speaker emulator. Ace also features 2x, 4x, or 8x selectable oversampling.

Simple controls and a conservative CPU usage make ACE easy to use in live settings as well as for re-amping.

Ace features

  • Accurate modeling of the whole circuit to capture dynamic interactions between amp stages.
  • Authentic 12AX7 and 6V6GT vacuum tube models.
  • Models of the two most common amp mods.
  • Adjustable strength of the input signal with up to 12 dB boost.
  • Cabinet simulation that can be switched on or off.
  • Selectable 2x, 4x, or 8x oversampling.

The plug-in is available to download for Windows and Mac as freeware (VST/AU).

Peavey releases ReValver 4 amp modeling effect

Peavey ReValver 4

Peavey has announced the release of ReValver 4, an amp modeling software for Windows and Mac.

Redesigned from the ground up, ReValver 4 contains amp modeling capabilities that capture the characteristics of real tube amplifiers. It runs as Stand Alone or as an AAX/VST or AU plug-in on Mac OS X or Windows.

Peavey has updated and improved the modeling engine in ReValver 4. It also incorporates a GUI and UX redesign and the ability to run on a Windows tablet, plus other high-level features including GIG mode, ACT (Audio Cloning Technology) and RIR 2 cabinet modeling.

Based on feedback from the extensive ReValver user community, the application’s redesign has been done so to improve user experience and workflow. The GUI now separates pedal board, amps/cabs and effects into their own views, thus minimizing the amount of vertical scrolling needed to navigate the application.

GIG mode further expands ReValver’s power as a live performance solution by allowing the user to load 8 presets into memory and seamlessly switch between them. The presets can also be assigned to MIDI controller switches. In addition, another primary consideration of the GUI and UX redesign was to make ReValver 4 the ideal solution for amp modeling on Windows tablets. As a result, the combination of ReValver 4, an audio interface, and a Windows tablet makes the “perfect live performance rig”.

Peavey’s ReValver 4 also features ACT (Audio Cloning Technology) modules that allow the user to mold and shape the guitar sound at both the input (before amp modeling) and output (after modeling). At the input, ACT turns ReValver into an instrument modeler by altering the incoming guitar signal to mimic the sound and characteristics of other instruments, such as acoustics, folk instruments, and even other electric guitar and pickup combinations. At the output, ACT allows the user to load presets that sculpt the signal to fit in a recording mix or mimic the sonic characteristics of famous guitar rigs.

With improved Impulse Responses, ReValver 4′s RIR 2 feature gives the user independent control of speaker configuration, microphone, and mic placement, allowing for almost endless tone shaping options. Also, the electrical features or the cabinet that alter the response of the amp have been captured, allowing for even greater realism and dynamics. The new Pedal Board feature provides a familiar environment to build and edit an effects chain before the amplifier whilst the effects rack sits post amp for all your delay, reverb and modulation needs.

ReValver 4 also comes with the introduction of the Amp Store, allowing users to purchase new amps, stompboxes, effects, and ACT content through in-app purchases. Users can begin with downloading ReValver 4 which is free (included modules listed below) and then simply purchase the additional content they desire.

ReValver 4 for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX/Standalone) is available to download for free and comes with a number of free modules. Extra modules are available for purchase from the Amp Store.

A Producer Pack, which includes Over $250 USD of modules, is available for purchase for $99.99 USD. ReValver MK III.V owners can upgrade to the Producer Pack for $49.99 USD.

AXP releases Flextron guitar amp plugin

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on Aug 07, 2014 - comment 0 comments

AXP has released Flextron, a virtual-analog guitar amp effect plug-in for Windows, made for the KVR Audio Developer Challenge 2014.

AXP Flextron

It’s based on a concept of the hybrid guitar distortion pedal I’ve built for myself a while ago. The prototype pedal in its turn was based on two commercial tube emulation technologies – Flexwave by Crate and Cooltron by VOX.

This combination was discovered by accident when I was repairing my bandmate’s VOX Bulldog distortion pedal. I didn’t like the Bulldog that much, however I got interested in its low-voltage tube design so I assembled a copy on a test bench. On its own it has provided very little overdrive, just as expected, but when combined with the Crate Flexwave preamp (my favorite solid-state distortion) it has completed its already great tone, giving it more fullness and presence. I’ve used this arrangement for rehearsals and some gigs and got complemented for the tone.

Flextron goes a step further and accurately models a range of Crate solid-state amps powered by the Flexwave circuit. Every stage of the preamp signal path is carefully analyzed and modeled with the same attention to details as my previous SoftDrive GV and SoftAmp FM25 plugins.

Flextron for Windows (VST) is a free download.

Ignite Amps releases Emissary tube amplifier plugin

Ignite Amps has launched Emissary, a custom tube amplifier effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Ignite Amps Emmisary
Front and back

It has been developed to accurately model its real hardware counterpart, built for Ryan Huthnance (The Seer/Gaped/Chrome Bison/Emissary Studios) by Ignite Amps, in 2014.

The Emissary is a no compromise custom amp built for the kill. Featuring a very versatile clean channel that ranges from pristine cleans to slightly overdriven tones and a mean lead channel designed for serious bone-crushing distortions, it offers a very wide tonal palette for the modern metal musician.

Every single component on the signal path of the real analog circuit has been taken into account and modeled in the best possible way to match the original sound, keeping an eye on CPU performance and real-time playability at the same time.

The plug-in GUI has been 3D modeled and rendered by Voger Design, in order to resemble the real amplifier as much as possible.

The Emissary is meant to be used as a virtual guitar amplifier for live playing and jamming, tracking or mixing inside hosts capable of VST or AU Plug-Ins support.

Emissary is available as freeware. The plug-in competes in the KVR Developer Challenge 2014.
