In the 17 months after Speakerphone’s release it has quickly become a household name in audio post production and also in many music studios. Speakerphone version 2 has a new cleaner look, new features, many newly sampled guitar amp cabinets, antique phones, toys, answering machines and megaphones.

Speakerphone will give you all the walkie-talkies, distant transistor radios, upstairs TV sets, bullhorns, cell phones and guitar cabinets you’ll ever need, plus 5 gigabyte of ambiences and sound FX to provide some context.

Changes in Speakerphone 2

  • All new GUI.
  • Dozens of new speakers, amps, phones and toys.
  • Microphone simulation module that hosts microphones ranging from Royers to toy mics.
  • “Coverup” module can place any sound inside tin cans, cardboard boxes, under blankets or in the closed trunk of a car.

  • Extensive LFO and envelope following section for controlling virtually all parameters of Speakerphone.
  • New rooms and outdoor IR’s.
  • Leslie speaker module, new codecs.

So if you want to see and hear for yourself what’s new (or if you just want to hear Arjen lock Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor in the trunk of a Volvo parked on a moonlit business park) do check out the what’s new movie or take the complete guided tour.

Speakerphone 2 is available for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/MAS) for $495 USD ex VAT. The upgrade to Speakerphone 2 costs $149 USD / 119 EUR and free upgrades are available to anyone that purchased Speakerphone or the All In Bundle in 2009.

Audio Ease announces Speakerphone 2

Speakerphone interface

Audio Ease has announced version 2 of Speakerphone, the speaker simulator for Windows and Mac.

Here’s the press release:

Just over a year has passed since the introduction of Speakerphone, Audio Ease’s end-all speaker simulator that comes with ambience sounds, reverbs, and many dsp modules to tweak the most lifelike sounding scenarios that involve speakers.

Speakerphone has quickly become a standard in many thousands of post production and music studios. Upstairs tv sets while cooking in the kitchen is going on, street megaphones with helicopters and sirens approaching, rockabilly guitar at the stage of a prom, a call from the K2 summit to base camp with wind crushing the microphone, all from a single plug-in.

Speakerphone version 2, previewed at NAMM, features many newly sampled guitar amp cabinets, antique phones, toys, answering machines and megaphones. Added is a microphone simulation module that hosts microphones ranging from Royers to toy mics.

Among the new modules in Speakerphone 2 is one that’s called ‘coverup’. Coverup can place any sound inside tin cans, cardboard boxes, under blankets or in the closed trunk of a car. Come listen and be amazed in the Audio Ease booth 6508.

Release date and pricing are yet to be announced.

Audio Ease Altiverb

Audio Ease has released version 6.2 of Altiverb, a convolution reverb plug-in for Mac and Windows.

It uses top quality samples of real spaces to create reverb, ranging from Sydney Opera House to the cockpit of a Jumbo Jet. Altiverb 6 offers the most extensive set of parameters, it supports all professional plug-in formats including protools TDM on the Mac, parameter automation and surround. Altiverb 6 gives you a choice between iLok SmartKey or Challenge/response copy protection, it lets you sample your own spaces (currently Mac only), and Altiverb is efficient on your cpu.

Changes in Altiverb v6.2

  • [PT] Pro Tools 7.4.2, OS X 10.5.3 and Intel Mac compatible. The RTAS version has been fixed to work with optimal performance in Mac OS X 10.5.3 and Pro Tools 7.4.2. Earlier there was the need to exclude some processor cores from RTAS processing, the playback engine can now be set to the number of processor cores available.
  • [PT TDM] The TDM version has a fix to make reloading a session with several Altiverbs active reliable. Data traffic to and from the DSPs could be hampered during load of a session, especially with an Expansion Chassis (ethernet or Magma) is connected. The fix makes the traffic reliable, albeit on a chassis somewhat slower.
  • [PT ]The RTAS version has been made better compatible for exchanges between PC and Mac, and between HD and LE systems. A session with a TDM version inserted will now open an RTAS instance automatically when transported to an LE system.
  • [PT MAC] Stopped CFM support for Pro Tools (from Altiverb 6.2 on Altiverb will not work anymore Pro Tools 6.x, Pro Tools 7 is required).
  • [PC] compatibility with Sonar improved.
  • [PC] compatibility with pyramix improved, Altiverb 6 XL surround options too.
  • Removed several smaller problems.
  • Added possibility to turn off auto update checking.
