Audio-Technica has announced the Sounds of the summer, a social media competition to find the nation’s favourite summer anthem.

Audio giant Audio-Technica has launched a social media quest to find the UK’s favourite summer track of all time. It is asking its fans and followers to tell the world on its Facebook page what is their favourite summer track and why. To help launch the online competition it has conducted a nationwide study into our musical preferences to find out how obsessed we are when it comes to our music. With singing at work and dancing in the street common place – we’ve certainly got some strange habits!

Almost everyone (96%) claimed they would rather give up films for a year over their music, with a further three quarters (73%) opting to ditch live sport, 37% ditching TV for music, and a dedicated third of people (34%) opting to ditch sex rather than going a year without music!

It also appears we like to express our love of music in public; three quarters of people (74%) admitting to spontaneously breaking into song while driving, a fifth 20% openly singing at work, 15% sing in the street and 11% have even danced in the street while listening to their iPod! Embarrassingly, almost all of us (90%) admit to having been caught doing one of these things!

Audio-Technica senior UK marketing manager Harvey Roberts said, “The UK is a nation with a long and distinguished history in producing world class music, so it’s no surprise to see such fanaticism towards music.

“The research shows that the majority of us actively listen to four-hours of music a day, which equates to more than 60 days a year. That is some serious listening time, and with a fifth of people preferring to use headphones, it makes sense to ensure you’ve got the very best equipment to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.”

The research was conducted as part of Audio-Technica’s ‘sounds of the summer’ campaign, where it is seeking the most popular ever ‘summer’ anthems via it’s Facebook page Five pairs of top of the range Audio-Tecnica headphones are up for grabs for the most popular suggestions.

The study also revealed that we like to listen to music in some unusual places, with 40% preferring to do it in bed, 27% in the shower, 11% while making love, and an obsessive 7% while asleep!

Audio-Technica also asked people how long they’d be prepared to queue to get tickets for their ‘ultimate’ music festival or summer show and despite the rise in internet bookings, a quarter would wait an hour and surprisingly one in six would be prepared to wait four-hours.

Audio-Technica introduces AT2022 X/Y Stereo Condenser Microphone

Audio-Technica has announced the AT2022, a new X/Y stereo condenser microphone.

A dual-element condenser microphone designed for stereo recording, the AT2022 features two unidirectional condenser capsules in an X/Y configuration pivot to allow for 90-degree (narrow) or 120-degree (wide) stereo operation for extremely versatile pickup. The capsules also fold flat for storage and transportation. It is designed for general stereo recording, as well as field sound capture.

The AT2022 includes a 1.6′ (0.5 m) cable terminating in a 3-pin XLRF-type and a 1/8″ (3.5 mm) connector. The output of the microphone is a 3-pin XLRM-type connector. The microphone requires a 1.5V AA battery for operation.

A switch permits choice of flat response or low-frequency roll-off (via integral 80 Hz high-pass filter) to help control undesired ambient noise. The microphone is enclosed in a rugged housing. The included AT8405a stand clamp permits mounting on any microphone stand with 5/8″-27 threads. A fuzzy windscreen, battery and soft protective pouch are also included.

The AT2022 will be available March 2011 with a U.S. MSRP of $439 USD.

Audio-Technica announces final shortlist for its Alternative Christmas Tune Competition


Audio-Technica has announced the final six shortlist of its alternative Christmas track competition.

It launched the competition in October and has received a huge wave of diverse entries from all across the UK and some from further afield.

The aim of the new music competition was to seek out fun and vibrant alternatives to the age-old tradition of Christmas carols and songs. The nationwide competition was launched through the company’s Facebook and Twitter channels, with entrants required to submit video entries via YouTube.

The online competition was not restricted to any particular type of music so bands, DJs or music producers from any genre had the opportunity to show off their skills.

The competition’s judge, Steve Levine, acclaimed producer and chairman of the Music Producers Guild, joined the team to carefully sift through the entries and create a shortlist of six finalists. The judging panel want the public to make the final decision on the best entry by voting for the track they believe should win the top prize of £500 worth of Audio-Technica equipment.

Audio-Technica launches Alternative Christmas Tune Competition


Audio-Technica, one of the world’s finest manufacturers of audio equipment, has launched an online search for the most entertaining alternative Christmas track.

The popular music manufacturer is looking for fun and vibrant YouTube video entries from the underground music scene that put a positive new spin on the age old tradition of Christmas carols.

The nationwide competition, which is being judged by Grammy & Brit award-winning record producer and chairman of the Music Producers Guild Steve Levine, is being formally launched via Audio-Technica’s social media channels of Facebook and Twitter.

The online competition is not restricted to any particular type of music so bands, DJs or music producers from any genre have the opportunity of scooping either the top prize of £500 or five runners-up prizes of £100 worth of Audio-Technica equipment. As an extra incentive the first 100 entries will all receive a free pair of Audio-Technica ATH-CK51 headphones worth £30 each.

Harvey Roberts, senior marketing manager at Audio-Technica commented: “We are really excited about this competition as we think it might help bring some added impetus to music during the Christmas period. Every year we hear the same few songs, so it would be nice to see something new and creative. The truth is we have an awful lot of musical talent in this country and we just felt that a competition like this would help give them some extra inspiration.”

Roberts continues: “The competition is an open book for musicians, they can do a quirky cover version of a Christmas carol or song or they can write a whole new piece of music themselves – we don’t mind it’s the creativity that matters. We want people to express themselves and have some fun making music. Who knows someone might even pen a brand new Christmas hit.”

The competition runs from 25th October 2010 until midnight, 12th December 2010. The winning entries will be announced on Thursday 23rd December 2010.
