Nugen Audio updates Visualizer audio analysis suite (incl. AAX 64-bit & VST3)

Nugen Audio has announced the release of a significant update of its Visualizer audio analysis suite.

Nugen Audio Visualizer
Designed for high-end music production professionals, Visualizer now supports the Avid AAX 64-bit format for both PC and Mac, as well as the VST3 standard for digital audio plug-ins.

Visualizer provides comprehensive audio analysis for recording, mixing, and mastering in a single plug-in, offering a standardized reference set of professional tools designed to help audio engineers work faster, avoid mistakes, repeat past successes, and understand the success of others. With the latest upgrade, Visualizer is now among the first in the industry to be compatible with Avid Pro Tools® 11, the latest version of Avid’s popular digital audio workstation.

With Visualizer, engineers are able to access many different views within a single intelligent window system, which lets them select the view combinations they need. Visualizer automatically resizes and aligns windows to maximize legibility and referencing information across screens. For recording, Visualizer offers tools for calibration, setting levels, signal path checking, noise minimization, and many other audio tasks. At the mixing desk, engineers can use Visualizer for tasks such as low-end control, masking, hidden frequencies, and stereo placement, among many others. For mastering, Visualizer supports a wide range of views such as stereo spread, phase relationships, and EQ distribution.

“When we first launched Visualizer in 2005, it quickly gained the attention of producers and helped NUGEN Audio build its brand in the audio production industry. Today, Visualizer is an indispensable analysis tool for quality audio production in music studios around the world,” said Jon Schorah, creative director, NUGEN Audio. “The new update is the latest example of how we’re continually adapting our products to meet our customers’ evolving requirements; for instance, 64-bit AAX compatibility provides future-proofing for our many customers who rely on Avid’s editing software.”

Visualizer for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/AudioSuite) is available for purchase for $199 USD.

Exponential Audio updates PhoenixVerb & R2 to v1.5.0

Exponential Audio

Exponential Audio has updated its PhoenixVerb and R2 reverb effect plug-ins to version 1.5.0.

Improvements include AudioSuite support for AAX plugins, a number of new presets, and several bug fixes.

Changes in PhoenixVerb v1.5.0 / R2 v1.5.0

  • Moved logs (on Mac) to /Library/Logs/ExponentialAudio.
  • Fixed some potential permissions in Mac installer.
  • Windows build uses new AAX SDK.
  • Added presets [PhoenixVerb]: Back Yard, Deep Hall 2, Lge Stone Church 2, Slapback Explosion 2, Small Far Hall 2, Small Close Hall 3, [R2]: Lge Far Cham 2, Med Guitar Hall 3, Rich Guitar Hall 3, Lge 81 Plate 2, Lge Random Plate.
  • Fixed a bug that had found its way into the first beta. This caused the preset name not to be refreshed in the preset selector when using a mouse.
  • Fixed a few buffer initialization bugs.
  • [R2] Fixed a bug in the ProTools automation page tables. Early/Reverb filter frequencies were not being automated. Now they are.
  • [R2] Fixed a minor VST issue that caused the plugin to show up in the wrong category.
  • Added AudioSuite processing. AAX only.
  • Fixed a very rare issue that could cause a hang on removing plugins from a project (or on shutting down).
  • ProTools only: Program changes are now shown under automation. In order for this to work, all parameters (except bypass) must be automated.
  • Fixed a small bug that caused the zoom button to appear when the screen was too small to allow zoom.
  • Fixed an initialization issue that could theoretically cause a plugin to launch without passing audio. This problem was never observed in this plugin.
  • Added detection of Fairlight Dream II DAW.

PhoenixVerb and R2 are available to purchase for Mac and Windows (AU/VST/RTAS/AAX) for $199 USD and $299 USD respectively. A bundle of both plug-ins is $449 USD.

FabFilter releases FabFilter Pro-MB multiband dynamics plug-in

FabFilter has announced the availability of FabFilter Pro-MB, a brand-new multiband compression/expansion plug-in introducing unique workflow and signal processing advancements.

Featuring free placement of bands anywhere in the spectrum and a newly developed Dynamic Phase processing mode, FabFilter Pro-MB stands out from the plug-in crowd by combining exceptional sound quality with a new way of thinking about multiband dynamics.

FabFilter Pro-MB

A different approach
When working with multiband dynamics, you often focus on one or two specific frequency areas. Instead of conventionally splitting the entire spectrum with crossovers, FabFilter Pro-MB enables you to directly target these areas, simply by creating bands at any frequency range you’re interested in. Think bands, not crossovers! The interface clearly shows that the rest of the spectrum stays untouched. When desired, bands can easily be snapped together to form a traditional crossover system.

Rethinking multiband processing
To achieve truly transparent multi-band processing, FabFilter Pro-MB features an entirely new processing mode: Dynamic Phase. Exclusively developed for Pro-MB, it closely matches the frequency response of conventional multiband processing and results in a flat phase response when no gain changes are applied, but without introducing latency and pre-ringing effects (like Linear Phase processing), or static phase distortion (like Minimum Phase processing). Minor, typically inaudible phase changes are introduced only when the gain of a band is modified. Of course, FabFilter Pro-MB also offers outstanding Linear Phase and conventional Minimum Phase processing modes.

Intelligent, powerful and versatile
Up to six bands can be created, each offering a choice of downward or upward compression or expansion, together with a full set of dynamics controls, from range, ratio and knee control to lookahead and variable stereo linking. Intelligent, highly frequency- and program-dependent algorithms ensure excellent results with all kinds of program material. In Expert mode, more advanced features become available: mid- or side-only processing, external side chain triggering, including the option to trigger on a different, freely configurable frequency range.

Designed for you
Unlike traditional multiband compressors, which can be laborious to set up and control, FabFilter Pro-MB’s large interface is streamlined and uncluttered. Creating, snapping and selecting bands is a breeze, as is adjusting and tweaking multiple selected bands. At any time, the most important settings for all bands are visible at a glance, together with a real-time dynamic gain change curve and spectrum analyzer. Intelligent audio processing combined with optimal interface workflow makes FabFilter Pro-MB an absolute timesaver and a joy to use.

FabFilter Pro-MB features

  • Up to six processing bands, freely placeable anywhere in the spectrum.
  • Bands can be easily snapped together to form a conventional crossover system.
  • Unique Dynamic Phase processing mode featuring zero latency, no static phase changes and no preringing artifacts.
  • Excellent Linear Phase processing mode, eliminating audible artifacts when quickly changing crossover frequencies.
  • Minimum Phase processing mode.
  • Handles any form of dynamics processing, from highly transparent compression, limiting and expansion to pumping upward compression and punchy gating.
  • Fully customizable per band: threshold, range, attack, release, output gain, ratio, variable knee, lookahead (up to 20 ms), variable stereo linking, mid- or side-only processing, external side chain input, triggering on a separate frequency range.
  • Steepness of each crossover slope can be freely adjusted between 6 dB/oct and 48 dB/oct.
  • Intelligent, highly program- and frequency-dependent attack and release curves.
  • Unique interactive multiband display, designed for an optimal workflow.
  • Global dry/wet mix from 0% to 200% to easily scale the total effect of the plug-in.
  • High-quality audio processing algorithms with 64-bit internal processing where needed.
  • Up to four times linear-phase oversampling.
  • Accurate and smooth real-time frequency analyzer with pre- and post-processing options and ‘freeze’ feature.
  • Precise output metering.
  • GPU-powered graphics acceleration.
  • Double-click text entry of parameter values.
  • Stereo and mono plug-ins available.
  • Supports common Pro Tools hardware control surfaces, such as Avid ICON D-Control and D-Command.
  • All the usual features you’ve come to expect from FabFilter: perfectly fine-tuned knobs and controllers, interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switch, Smart Parameter Interpolation for smooth parameter transitions, an extensive help file with interactive help hints, sample-accurate automation, advanced optimization, and more.

FabFilter Pro-MB for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/AudioSuite is available to purchase for 169 EUR / $229 USD / £139 GBP. Existing FabFilter customers can purchase Pro-MB at a discount.
