AudioThing releases Environments – Temple of Mercury for Kontakt

AudioThing has announced Environments – Temple of Mercury, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

AudioThing Environments Temple of Mercury
The Temple of Mercury is the first in a a series of sample libraries inspired by research in sound environments and the relationship of sound and space.

Environments “Temple of Mercury” features sound gestures from a corrugated plastic pipe and the impulse response of the Temple of Mercury, a wide caldera situated in the west of Naples (Italy). The Temple is also known as “The Echo Temple” for its several acoustic reflections caused by a dome vault and water on the floor. The temple is entirely made of tophus, and it has a diameter of 21.5 meters (71ft) and a circular opening in the vault reminiscent of the one in the Pantheon in Rome.

The sampled instrument produces flute, horn, efxs, impulsive sounds, and, with a little electroacoustic modification, feedback sounds; all sounds are playable with or without the convolution of the Temple. This library was inspired by a video by Salvatore Carannante, a musician who plays common or recycled everyday objects as a way of interacting with the acoustic space.

Environments – Temple of Mercury features

  • 24 Kontakt Instruments (.nki).
  • 5 Kontakt Multis (.nkm).
  • 3 Round Robin samples.
  • Up to 3 velocity layers.
  • 87 Samples (44.1kHz / 24Bit).
  • 1 Impulse Response.
  • Formats: Kontakt and WAV.
  • Sample sets including flute, horn, efxs, impulsive sounds, feedback sounds, sound designed instruments.

The sound library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $12 until November 24th, 2012 (regular $15 USD).

AudioThing records Bass Station to Tape: TapeStation for NI Kontakt

AudioThing has announced TapeStation, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

What happens when a ’90s analog synth meets an ’80s tape recorder? We sampled a famous Analogue Bass Synth to tape using a new old stock cassette, and boxed it into a Kontakt Instrument. The original synth produced fat basses and sharp leads, but now the raw tape sounds and unstable pitch add perfect elements for “tron” like sounds. Each waveform (Sawtooth, Square, Pulse 5%) was sampled chromatically from C0 to C7 and each sample is more then 6 seconds long. In the custom Performance View a Saturation and Limiter Input Gain are added to the original synth’s parameters.

AudioThing TapeStation
Novation Bass Station + Tape Recorder = AudioThing TapeStation for Kontakt.

TapeStation features

  • 2 Oscillators (Saw, Square, Pulse 5%).
  • 12-24dB/oct filter.
  • 1 LFO (Random, Saw, Triangle) for Pitch and Cutoff.
  • 2 Envelopes.
  • 24 Factory Presets.
  • 24 User Presets (save function within the Kontakt GUI).
  • 255 Samples (44.1Khz / 24Bit).
  • Size: 200 MB installed.
  • Custom performance view.

The TapeStation library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $9 USD until July 26th, 2012 (regular $12 USD). Requires Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.2 full version.
