Ilya Efimov releases Fretless Bass for Kontakt

Ilya Efimov Freless Bass

Ilya Efimov Production has announced the release of Fretless Bass, a virtual bass instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

This carefully-crafted instrument is designed to be a detailed emulation of a hi-end 5-string “studio custom” bass from the F-Bass company.

The three right hand positions in one patch: normal, soft, “Jaco” and additional articulations – allow the user to edit their MIDI notation or play in real-time. By minimizing the use of keyswitches, the instrument has been designed to be simple and intuitive to use. A sophisticated algorithm to select strings in real time, automatically selects the natural bass guitar left-hand position on the fretboard. Manual string and position selection are also available.

The library’s repetition keys make it easy to play realistic ostinato bass-lines. FX glissando is designed to add realism to bass guitar parts. Multiple legato types are changed automatically, depending on the first note played. Included also, are several Legato modes, Open String mode, Chord Detection mode and X-note mode.

Fretless Bass features

  • 2.37 GB ncw compression format.
  • 4612 samples, 24-bit, 44.1 kHz.
  • Up to 12 velocity layers, 21 frets on each string with round-robin algorithm.
  • Three right hand positions in the single patch.
  • Auto and Manual String and Position Selection.
  • Attack control.
  • Slide-up, Flageolets, X-notes (two modes for x-note performance).
  • Repetition keys for X-notes and last articulations.
  • Realistic glissando note-to-note.
  • Gliss-FX.
  • AMP cabinet and Bass tone effects.
  • Multiple FX and Noises (strokes, fret noises, releases).

The sample library is available to purchase for 99 EUR.

Toontrack releases Bass Toolbox EZmix Pack

Toontrack Bass Toolbox EZmix Pack

Toontrack has announced the release of the Bass Toolbox EZmix Pack, a new expansion for EZmix 2 featuring a wide variety of presets custom-made solely for bass guitar.

You’ll find anything from amp and cab simulation settings to signal chains for amp and DI combos as well as inserts applicable on any type of source bass guitar audio.
“The idea was to compile something that would cater to a broad use, regardless of genre. A collection that covered the whole gamut of fundamental tools you’d need to get your bass right in a mix scenario”, says Toontrack sound designer Ulf Edlund.

A bass guitar in a mix situation is seldom just a plain and simple instrument signal. It often involves a long chain of effects such as compression, EQ, tape simulator and various types of distortion. Most mix engineers would even agree to bass being one of the hardest instruments to have sit well in a production. That’s why Toontrack put together an all-star team of engineers to design this collection of go-to settings for mixing and recording bass guitar: Randy Staub (Metallica, Avril Lavigne), Neil Dorfsman (Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits), Pelle Henricsson (Refused, Meshuggah) as well as the Toontrack sound design team.

This pack will provide anything from warm and muffled to edgy, modern and distorted tones – all the way from upright and acoustic to vintage, classic and modern. It’s a toolbox for bass guitar. Easy.

The EZmix pack is available to purchase for $49 USD / 39 EUR.
