Versilian Studios Tubular Bells

Versilian Studios has announced Tubular Bells, a sampled instrument for Windows.

Tubular Bells, otherwise known as Orchestra Chimes or Orchestra Bells, are a member of the percussion family often used to emulate the sound of church bells. It’s use is broad- everything from “epic orchestral” to concert band music and more.

This particular set has been deep-sampled to provide excellent playability and reasonably good sound quality, certainly good enough for any project. There is a very large dynamic range on the instrument, allowing it to ring out above the orchestra as it truly would, or sink behind quietly to just accent the flow of the piece. The chimes’ delays were recorded up to 10 seconds; pressing down the sustain pedal will unleash the full resonance of the chimes.

Tubular Bells features

  • c. 1 1/2 Octaves of chromatic sampling.
  • 2x Borrowed RR and 5 Velocity Layers.
  • Compact GUI to minimize screen space.
  • Faux Vibrato effect for spooky music.

Tubular Bells for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available to purchase for $10 USD.

Cinesamples releases CineBells for Kontakt

Cinesamples has announced CineBells, a sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Cinesamples Cinebells

Here we present a focused, tidy collection of intimately-recorded, overdub ready, pitched happiness. A sizable 10GB (at compressed NI NCW) collection of pitched bells, dulcimers and keyboards specifically designed to construct tonal groove elements. For years we’ve been subjected to typical cinematic grooves composed of various small percussive elements; sticks, logs, shakers, claves, tambourines, finger cymbals, and other unpitched toys – yet there was an obvious lack of pitched counterparts.

Partially inspired by the tasty tonal percussion overdub tracks on Radiohead’s “No Surprises” and Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” we set out to produce a library which could easily camouflage itself in any track of any genre. Aside from applying the production techniques of modern sampling, we had to take special care taming these incredibly verbal instruments; especially the mallet keyboards as they have the power to drown out an entire orchestra in a hall setting.

Using a combination of instrument treatments, mellow mallets, small pencil condensers and elite Class-A outboard gear (Lexicon PCM 91, Avalon 2055 EQ, Waves L2 Hardware Limiter, Manley Variable Mu), we were able to capture an incredibly usable mix. You will hear a tremendously clean signal featuring perfectly smooth transients, transparent highs, warm mids and tastefully rolled-off lows, with just enough ambience to prevent sterility. We’ve also included true mono; a single microphone (not a faked, stereo fold down) as it would be used in 90% of these types of situations in the studio. We have captured an authentic and familiar sound – that your client will hopefully feel rather than notice outright when they hear your cues.

CineBells features

  • 12 patches of unique and useful instruments.
  • 2 Mix Options.
  • High-Quality Signal Chain:
    • Lexicon PCM 91
    • Avalon 2055 EQ
    • Waves L2 Hardware Limiter
    • Manley Variable Mu
  • 9.97 GB – NCW Compressed.
  • Multiple Dynamic Layers, Round Robin Articulations.
  • Requires Full Version of Kontakt 4.2.3 or higher.
  • Produced by Mike Barry, Mike Patti, and Dan Negovan; Programmed and Scripted by Blake Robinson; engineered by Brian Dixon.

CineBells is available to purchase for the introductory price of $99 USD (regular $129 USD).

Modartt releases Tubular Bells Christmas gift for Pianoteq

Modartt Tubular Bells

Modartt has released a new free add-on as Christmas gift: The Tubular Bells.

As a Christmas gift to all Pianoteq customers, we hereby announce our latest instrument add-on: a virtual copy of a Tubular Bells, also known as Symphonic Chimes.

Tubular Bells is an instrument made of brass tubes of graded length that are tuned to a chromatic scale and usually covers the range of 1½ octave. The sound is produced by striking the top edge of the tubes with a plastic-headed hammer. The instrument often includes an attached damping mechanism. It appeared for the first time in England in the late 19th Century, and is ever since part of major symphonic orchestras, known as symphonic chimes.

The Tubular Bells add-on is modelled after a Bergerault 18 Note concert chimes. Thanks to Pianoteq’s powerful technology, the note range in the virtual copy is extended into a 4-octave instrument.

The Tubular Bells is available to download for registered Pianoteq users.
