The Bass Egg project began over a year ago when one team member was given a reverberation loudspeaker by his father. While the use of this technology in loudspeakers existed, there was much left to be desired. The only products available were either high in sound quality but not portable, or a novelty product encased in cheap plastic – not durable and lacking in sound quality. In addition, no versions were easy to use or appealing in their design.
Driven by the desire to design and manufacture the “best in class” reverberation speaker, our goal was to develop a product with the following attributes: Small and Portable, Sleek, Wireless and Easy to Use, and Durable. Of course, big, Quality Sound was a must.
After many long nights, much frustration and several trips to potential manufacturers – the Bass Egg was hatched.
The Bass Egg Project is looking for backers to pledge $150,000 USD by Friday Dec 14, 2012.
Christopher Konopka has announced wiiAirDrum, a MaxMSP application for triggering samples with a wiiMote controller.
An example of the wiiAirDrum system that connects two wiiMotes to MaxMSP via bluetooth.
I just finished working on a project I created months ago as a research project that involved creating musical applications for blind individuals. This was part of a Music Therapy Development group led by Dr. Richard Boulanger and Professor Chi Kim. The goal of my application for this project was to create a drum-like sampler that an individual could use instead of using an actual drum set. In essence, each remote can control 4 samplers which can be programmed manually or by using the controller. Each sampler is controlled by a button combination and can be triggered by making a drum-strike motion. These combinations are simple variations and each remote has the same combination setup.

Designed to mimic the look of a trash can, TEMPO is a unique hard drive storage device. Intended to protect the user from accidentally deleting files, it can also be used as an external storage device. As you delete files, they are automatically copied to the TEMPO. As it fills up, led’s light the “can” from the bottom up, informing you of how much space is available.
The device is bluetooth powered, so no wires! I wonder how much it is going to cost with all those LEDs on it…
