VST Buzz has launched a limited time sale on the Bluegrass Banjo Kontakt sample library by Bolder Sounds.
Bluegrass Banjo by BolderSounds is a 5 string banjo owned and played banjo wizard Chris Elliot.
This instrument has the classic warm tone associated with pre-war banjos with plenty of punch to cut through a mix. Even though this library is called a Bluegrass sample library, you will find it to be quite flexible across many different musical genres. Recorded with 5 round-robins on each of the 5 strings, strings 5 round-robins for each of the 5 strings of the banjo, strings 1 through 4 were sampled chromatically up to the 17th fret and the first string was sampled up to the 22nd fret.
Bluegrass Banjo requires the full version of Kontakt 4 or above and is 1.5 GB uncompressed.
The sample library is available from VST Buzz for $42 USD until June 18th, 2013 (regular $60 USD).
Bolder Sounds has released Bluegrass Banjo, a new 1.5 GB sample library for NI Kontakt 4+ and Apple EXS24.
Both versions of this library give extensive control over the left hand fingering style of the banjo.
The Kontakt version uses a KSP string algorithm which allows the user to choose between playing in a specified position or to play on a particular string only. Also included in the Kontakt version is the ability to select articulations via velocity rather than the default key switches if desired.
On the EXS24 version, numerous banjo maps are offered which emphasize the span of a particular strings samples, as well as a separate components folder with each banjo string mapped to its full sampled length. Both the Kontakt and EXS libraries have an instrument created for use with a MIDI guitar controller.
Bluegrass Banjo features
5 round-robins for each of the 5 strings of the banjo. Strings 1 through 4 were sampled chromatically up to the 17th fret. The first string was sampled up to the 22nd fret.
Various articulations: Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs, Half and Whole step Slides as well as Harmonics. All with 2 x independent round-robins per key.
Freely assignable Key-Switches for Fret Positions and String Imposes. Articulations may also be triggered via velocity instead of key switches. A new fret algorithm automatically selects the correct fret according to the played note (Kontakt only).
A very advanced Pitch Bend control (Kontakt only).
Major, minor and diminished chords in 3 voicings (low, mid and high), short and long articulations with 2 x round-robins per chord.
REX format banjo rolls (arpeggios) in 3/4 and 4/4 time. Major, minor and diminished rolls recorded in the most common banjo keys.
The rolls (arpeggios) can be played in any key you like, in the Kontakt “Rolls” patches (Kontakt only).
Bluegrass Banjo costs $59.95 USD (Kontakt) / $49.95 USD (EXS24), with introductory prices of $40 and $33.50 respectively, available until January 15th, 2013.
The Music Maker V4.nki is your starting point (located in the Instruments folder). Within each instrument there are 11 different Preset menus – each with 6 preset slots. Do not confuse these Preset slots as instruments! One instrument (.nki) could potentially have 6 different Presets on the INSTRUMENT TAB as one example and 6 different Presets on the LFO TAB etc … You certainly do not need to fill up all 6 Presets if you do not wish to, how far you want to go with it is up to you.
Contest entries can be submitted until September 30th, 2012.
Bolder Sounds has announced Harmoniums of the Opera, a harmonium sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
The Juilliard harmonium is considered to be one of the finest sounding harmoniums on the east coast of the United States. It is a five octave keyboard instrument with one stop. We have also created an artificial octave couplet. This instrument has a wonderful bright organic breathing accordion-like quality. Very flexible KSP scripting has been authored by Bo Clausen which includes the triggering of saved custom presets via keyswitch to emulate changing stops with filter settings and volume control (see the video demo). KSP Scripting also enables the user to control the pumping emulation of the harmonium either by manual pump or auto-pump.
The MET harmonium is a five octave keyboard instrument with seven different stop combinations that have been faithfully recreated to capture the original sound of the instrument. The seven stop options can be triggered by keyswitch or assignable CC#. You also have the flexibility of moving the keyswitch assignments for each stop to a different key if desired. This instrument also has a vibrato switch which is emulated on Kontakt’s front panel and may be turned on or off. Even the blower noise from the fan was sampled and added as an option. The Met harmonium could be considered a virtual instrument restoration. The instrument at the time of sampling was no longer suitable for live performance, and it has now been brought back to life!
On both the harmoniums in this library, you can save banks of presets of your own creation for the effect panels which include Space IR, EQ, Chorus, Flange, Rotater, and Delay. For more detailed information, please download the .pdf manual at the bottom of this page, also be sure to watch the video demos made for each harmonium.
The Harmoniums of the Opera for Kontakt 4 or higher (full version required) is available to purchase for the introductory price of $49 USD.

Buffalo Drum Loops & Hits is available to purchase for the introductory price of $29.95 USD for the RMX and REX formats, $34.95 USD for the Kontakt version, or $44.95 USD for all three bundled. Offer valid until September 1, 2011.
Bolder Sounds has released Virginal, a sample library created from a replica of a 4 octave Italian Box Virginal.
The Virginal is the predecessor of the Harpsichord with the strings running parallel to the keyboard rather than from front to back like the Harpsichord. England’s Virgin Queen ( Elizabeth I ) was said to be a fine performer on the instrument.
Virginals were made all over Europe between the years 1500 and 1800. The earliest and some of the best Box Virginals were made in Italy with a spruce soundboard.
Virginal is available to purchase in Kontakt 3 and EXS24 formats for the introductory price of $29.95 USD until the end March 2011.
Bolder Sounds has released Mini Sax, a free sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
This instrument is the creation of Juan Del Rio in Redondo Beach, California. You can watch him on YouTube by searching his name with ‘mini sax’ or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in buying one, they sell for an incredible price of $40.00!
The sound of the mini sax has somewhat of a cross between the clarinet and the sax. It is in the key of Bb and is an octave in range. For this sample set, I have expanded to range to 2 octaves going from G2 to G4 using polyphonation from the excellent Redmatica Keymap application.
Bo Clausen has contributed his usual wonderful KSP Kontakt scripting which is explained in a bit more detail later in the .pdf manual. Thank You Bo!
Bolder Sounds has released Handbells V2, a handbells sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Version 2 of this unique 2.4 gigabyte sample library has doubled in size since version 1 was released in November of 2009.
Three more octaves of Handbells as well as 2 new articulations (Mart and Mart-Lift) have been added. On the low end, C2 and G2 bells as well as the octave above that (C3 – B3). On the high end we have added bells C7 – C8. And to round it off, a very flexible user interface with KSP scripting has been created by Bo Clausen.
Handbells V2 for Kontakt 3 or higher is available to purchase for the introductory price of $119 USD through January 1, 2011. Current owners of the Handbell V1 library can upgrade to V2 for $40 USD, also until January 1, 2011.
