Cakewalk has released ScratchPad, a music app for iPad.
Designed for any music-creation enthusiast on the go, loop-based ScratchPad for iOS is intended to offer a fun and easy way to create compositions for music creation and live performance. Tweak, scratch, and stutter loops anywhere, any time: Create beats and grooves in seconds by simply dragging and dropping loops from any genre right onto each of nine Expression Pads. Then, manipulate them on the fly through a variety of performance-oriented special effects, including an XY filter pad. Tempos are locked in so loops are never out of sync, and users can record and play back performances directly from the app’s browser.
The app comes loaded with content—but users can also import their own loops via Dropbox for an even more creative experience. ScratchPad can also route to other apps through Audiobus for additional musical possibilities.
Remix and tweak an assortment of loops and genres.
Overloud VKFX (Vintage Keyboard FX) is a virtual rack packed with outstanding models of vintage analog effect processors. All 8 VST / ProChannel Modules are available individually and also included in the VKFX bundle.
The FREE VKFX Delay module harkens back to the days of tape echo. The original tape echo effect was created by recording an input signal to tape via a tape head and then replaying that signal through another tape head. By placing several heads at different distances along the tape path, they were also able to create different syncopations of delay depending on which heads were monitored.
One feature of tape delays which was lost in the digital move forward was the effect on the sound of the tape itself. In tape delays, the signal is delayed by keeping it on the magnetic tape for a time. For every repetition of the delay, the signal is recorded to and played back from the tape. The more repetitions, the more intense is the effect of the tape on the sound.
The VKFX delay utilises an intelligent tape simulation algorithm which reproduces both the compression effects and frequency response of analogue tape for each repetition of the delayed signal.

Celemony has announced that its Melodyne essential is included in the new Sonar X3 music production software by Cakewalk.
Cakewalk’s new Sonar X3 offers, thanks to Celemony’s ARA technology, a particularly user-friendly Melodyne integration, so it’s only fitting that Melodyne essential is included in the bundle.
Through the application of ARA Audio Random Access technology, the Grammy-Award-winning audio tool Melodyne is integrated so seamlessly into Sonar X3 that it seems to be a part of the DAW. This makes using Melodyne much easier. The correction and optimization of recordings proceeds faster and is more fun.
Sonar X3 Producer and Sonar X3 Studio are supplied in a bundle with Melodyne essential, which permits basic Melodyne editing of pitch and timing with monophonic audio material such as lead vocal, bass or flute tracks. But the latest version of Melodyne editor can also, thanks to ARA, be operated elegantly in Sonar X3 and offers, in addition to extended tools, the patented DNA Direct Note Access for polyphonic audio material – ideal for editing individual notes in piano or guitar recordings or for polyphonic audio-to-MIDI.
“We are pleased and proud that, with Cakewalk, another important manufacturer is now supporting ARA,” says Anselm Rößler, Managing Director of Celemony. “Users of ARA to date have given us very positive feedback and we are convinced that also Sonar users will be enthused by the Melodyne integration.”
ARA technology was developed by Celemony in cooperation with Presonus and is open to use by manufacturers of both DAWs and plug-ins. ARA opens an additional channel of communication so that DAW and plug-in can exchange information about the audio file, tempo, pitch and rhythm among many other things, and thereby work much more closely together.
Gibson Brands has entered into a letter of intent with Roland Corporation and Cakewalk, Inc. for Gibson to acquire Cakewalk pursuant to definitive acquisition agreements to be negotiated by the parties.
According to Gibson Brands Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, “If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Cakewalk must be very flattered that so many of their innovations have become industry standards. As an addition to the Gibson Pro Audio Group, Cakewalk will enhance their flagship professional products, pursue provocative R&D initiatives, and continue to serve the needs of musicians and producers world-wide.”
Following the closing of the proposed acquisition, a new brand, TASCAM Professional Software, will be created to support, promote, and publish Cakewalk’s current and future professional products. Cakewalk President Michael Hoover notes “The world’s most iconic guitar, Gibson’s Les Paul, bears the name of the inventor of multitrack recording—and TASCAM launched a musical revolution by bringing multitrack recording to the masses. The combination will make a fitting home for products developed by Cakewalk.” TASCAM President Yuji Hanabusa states “The future of recording is an intelligent, intuitive combination of both hardware and software. Cakewalk and TASCAM will have the power to realize this future.”
The Cakewalk staff and headquarters will remain in Boston as an independent division. Juszkiewicz concludes, “This isn’t just about wanting to acquire Cakewalk’s respected product line. We’re equally excited about what Cakewalk’s R&D labs are developing for current Cakewalk fans—as well as those who are about to become Cakewalk fans.”
