Seaweed Factory has launched FM_SK, a free sample pack featuring sounds from the Yamaha TX81z.
The sounds in the video above are from Seaweed Factory’s latest sample pack, FM_SK.
The focus is on odd, grainy FM percussive sounds. All samples were produced using a Yamaha TX81z sound module. Each percussive sample was then processed using a modified Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard to give the pure FM tones more grit. Over 150 samples at a 24bit/48K sample rate are included in this sample pack. No normalization was used, nor was any tuning performed.
I’m offering it free of charge again for commercial and non-commercial use, but please don’t redistribute the pack.

Icebreaker Audio has released Calc-U-Synth VR for Reaktor, an emulation of the classic Casio VL-Tone calculator/synthesizer combo from the ’80s.
Calc-U-Synth VR is a re-creation of the programmable Casio VL-Tone synthesizer for Native Instruments Reaktor 5.
Precise measurements of the VL-Tone’s volume envelope, vibrato, and tremolo were then gathered in order to faithfully emulate the whole instrument in Reaktor.
This library was designed in order to present the full capabilities of the VL-Tone’s programmable features in a more convenient interface, while retaining the character of the original instrument.
Calc-U-Synth VR features
- Full emulation of the Casio VL-Tone’s programmable synth engine.
- Built-in tempo-sync delay effect.
- Speaker emulation with room simulation.
- Additional “Bend” controls: Glitch and Filter.
- Key-Click noise control.
The Calc-U-Synth VR for Reaktor is available to purchase for £4.50 GBP / $7 USD.
Icebreaker Audio has also announced a bundle sale, offering all its bundles at a 50% discount until November 30th, 2013.

Tonebuilder has released Chi-Jack, a free Driven Machine Drums kit featuring the Casio RZ-1.
RZ1 has a distinct sound, especially the clap and hats. The classic Chicago Jak/House track by Steve Poindexter “Work that Mutha” used the Casio RZ1. The RZ-1 was also used on the Hardfloor album “Respect”.
DMD Chi-Jack has 24/96, 24/44.1, and 16/44.1 Wav plus 24/94 Aif. It also has kits for Maschine, Geist, and Guru. The Wavs will also load into Kong, Spark, Battery, etc.
As usual, the kit also features analog outboard processing… this time I used my new Elysia Nvelope and some nickel transformers. The RZ1 was already low-fi and dirty, so it was essential to maintain whatever fidelity it pretended to have.
The kit is a free download at the Tonebuilder Facebook page (no Facebook account required).

Jonathan Adams Leonard of Weirding Module has released a free Casio MT68 sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Great care was taken to record the MT68 with the best equipment and minimal processing so the original sound and character is preserved. All notes and beats were sampled and looped to offer the most complete virtual version of this classic synth for years to come.
This was my first synthesizer, and I offer it’s sounds to my friends and fellow musicians who might be as fond of it as I am.
Casio MT68 for Kontakt
- Native Instruments Kontakt 5 instrument format.
- All 20 preset instruments.
- 4 Bass instruments.
- 7 Drum samples.
- 12 Drum Beats and Fills looped and sliced in beatmachine.
- Every note in each preset is sampled.
- Samples are monophonic, 44.1kHz / 24-bit .ncw files.
- Every sustained sample is hand looped for infinite sustain (17×49=833).
- Relative volume levels of each note are preserved.
- Additional envelope variations are provided as instruments.
The sample library is a free download.

Seaweed Factory has launched the Casio SK-1 Rhythm and Tone Sample Pack, a free collection of samples.
Here is a sample pack of the rhythms and tones of an unmodified Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. Though the sampling feature of this keyboard is wonderful, the lo-fi drums and tones are also pretty neat.
All samples were produced using a unmodified Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard. Normalization was used across multi-samples, but dynamics between notes are preserved. Some samples are labeled to indicate note or drum pattern. All eleven drum patterns are sampled at the default rhythm. The fill pattern for each rhythm is also available. Each of the eight built-in voices has been multi-sampled at octave intervals of the note C. Individual drum hits have been extracted from patterns.
The sample pack is a free download, commercial and non-commercial use allowed.

Seaweed Factory has introduced the Casio PT-10 Sample Pack, a free collection of samples from the 32-mini keys Casiotone PT-10.
After a long gap, it’s time for another sample pack. This packs contains sounds from a Casio PT-10 mini-keyboard. Each of the 4 voices have been multi-sampled. I’m fond of the fantasy setting in particular.
Loops of the 10 different rhythms have also been provided at 2 different speeds. Enjoy this super lo-fi blip blast! I’m offering it free of charge again for commercial and non-commercial use, but please don’t redistribute the pack.
