Native Instruments releases Circuit Halo for Maschine

Native Instruments has announced the release of Circuit Halo, a new Maschine expansion library that combines intricately-sampled vintage synths and drum machines with contemporary patterns.

Native Instruments Circuit Halo
CIRCUIT HALO’s sound set combines multi-sampled synths, classic drum machines, custom glitch modulation effects, and new presets for the included MASSIVE and REAKTOR PRISM synths.

CIRCUIT HALO features a premium collection of samples from vintage synthesizers such as the Roland Juno 60, Casio VL-Tone, Prophet 5, Yamaha DX7, Sequential Circuits Pro One and Six-Trak, and a Korg MS-20. Each instrument was meticulously multi-sampled to capture the characteristic warm low end and idiosyncrasies such as pitch drift that analog equipment adds to productions. The combination of vintage sound with the latest in glitch modulation effects and arrangement styles gives producers a new way to blend classic sounds with production techniques.

The drum sounds in CIRCUIT HALO come from a mix of vintage and modern drum machines – many customized for a unique sound. Boutique outboard gear such as a classic 80s British talkback compressor and 1/2″ analog tape were used for detailed tone shaping and a good dose of warmth and character. Lush reverb reminiscent of the 80s sound was also used to add depth and vintage flavor to the expansion.

CIRCUIT HALO’s four Special Kits contain a wealth of glitched-out, grainy sounds, noises and sweeps, sound effects, and percussion and stabs. All-new PRISM presets provide organic leads, pads, mallets, and flutes while MASSIVE presets deliver textured, morphing leads, basses, and stabs.

A condensed version of CIRCUIT HALO is also available as an iMASCHINE Expansion for creating beats on-the-go. The iMASCHINE Expansion features two projects, four drum kits, and two multi-sampled instruments. Tracks can be exported to MASCHINE STUDIO, MASCHINE, and MASCHINE MIKRO for completion.

CIRCUIT HALO was created in cooperation with Danish sound design expert Joël Krozer of 6 Bit Deep.

Circuit Halo is available for purchase for $49 USD / 49 EUR / £44 GBP. Requires Maschine 2. The iMASCHINE expansion is available at the iMASCHINE in-app store for $0.99 USD / 0.89 EUR / £0.69 GBP.

Seaweed Factory releases free FM_SK sample pack

Seaweed Factory has launched FM_SK, a free sample pack featuring sounds from the Yamaha TX81z.

The sounds in the video above are from Seaweed Factory’s latest sample pack, FM_SK.

The focus is on odd, grainy FM percussive sounds. All samples were produced using a Yamaha TX81z sound module. Each percussive sample was then processed using a modified Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard to give the pure FM tones more grit. Over 150 samples at a 24bit/48K sample rate are included in this sample pack. No normalization was used, nor was any tuning performed.

I’m offering it free of charge again for commercial and non-commercial use, but please don’t redistribute the pack.

Icebreaker Audio has released Calc-U-Synth VR for Reaktor, an emulation of the classic Casio VL-Tone calculator/synthesizer combo from the ’80s.

Icebreaker Audio Calc-U-Synth VR
Calc-U-Synth VR is a re-creation of the programmable Casio VL-Tone synthesizer for Native Instruments Reaktor 5.

Precise measurements of the VL-Tone’s volume envelope, vibrato, and tremolo were then gathered in order to faithfully emulate the whole instrument in Reaktor.

This library was designed in order to present the full capabilities of the VL-Tone’s programmable features in a more convenient interface, while retaining the character of the original instrument.

Calc-U-Synth VR features

  • Full emulation of the Casio VL-Tone’s programmable synth engine.
  • Built-in tempo-sync delay effect.
  • Speaker emulation with room simulation.
  • Additional “Bend” controls: Glitch and Filter.
  • Key-Click noise control.

The Calc-U-Synth VR for Reaktor is available to purchase for £4.50 GBP / $7 USD.

Icebreaker Audio has also announced a bundle sale, offering all its bundles at a 50% discount until November 30th, 2013.

ToneBuilder releases free Chi-Jack DMD kit

Casio RZ-1

Tonebuilder has released Chi-Jack, a free Driven Machine Drums kit featuring the Casio RZ-1.

RZ1 has a distinct sound, especially the clap and hats. The classic Chicago Jak/House track by Steve Poindexter “Work that Mutha” used the Casio RZ1. The RZ-1 was also used on the Hardfloor album “Respect”.

DMD Chi-Jack has 24/96, 24/44.1, and 16/44.1 Wav plus 24/94 Aif. It also has kits for Maschine, Geist, and Guru. The Wavs will also load into Kong, Spark, Battery, etc.

As usual, the kit also features analog outboard processing… this time I used my new Elysia Nvelope and some nickel transformers. The RZ1 was already low-fi and dirty, so it was essential to maintain whatever fidelity it pretended to have.

The kit is a free download at the Tonebuilder Facebook page (no Facebook account required).
