Plugin Alliance Giveaway: The BIG 4 Bundle

Plugin Alliance

Dirk Ulrich of Brainworx recently launched the Plugin Alliance, a one-stop shop for several plug-in developers.

These currently include Maag Audio, Elysia, SPL, Vertigo, Brainworx, with plug-ins from Millenia, Chandler, Neve, and Charter Oak to be expected in 2012.

Easy license management, hassle-free installation, great sound and reliability. One license file for all your plugins, that´s it.

While I do use a few plug-ins that require a hardware dongle, I totally prefer not having to use them. I think it’s pretty exciting Plugin Alliance has created this software based system for managing all licenses of Plugin Alliance plug-ins in one place.

If you are interested in checking out how all this works, just head on over to the Plugin Alliance website and get some (or all) of the free plug-ins from Elysia (niveau filter), SPL (Free Ranger), and Brainworx (bx_cleansweep V2 & bx_solo).

But wait, there’s more!

Plugin Alliance The BIG 4 Bundle

Plugin Alliance has kindly donated a free copy of The BIG 4 Bundle (value $777 USD), to be given away to one lucky rekkerd.org reader.

The BIG 4 Bundle includes:

  • bx_XL M/S Mastering Limiter – The new Loud!
  • elysia alpha compressor – all discrete M/S Mastering Compressor
  • SPL Passeq – 72 coil filters Monster EQ
  • Vertigo VSC-2 – “The Mercedes of VCA Compressors” (Vintage King USA)

This bundle will give you a rock solid and tight mastering chain or stereo bus setup. The bx_XL, Passeq and alpha Compressor all work in M/S modes optionally.

To enter the giveaway you need to answer the following questions:

  1. bx_XL is based upon the M/S technology from which other Brainworx plug-in?
  2. Which switchable frequencies are available for the sidechain hipass filters on the Vertigo VSC-2?
  3. The elysia alpha compressor plugin offers a signal coloration different from the hardware unit, what is this mode called?
  4. How many different sets of adjustments can be saved within one instance of SPL’s Passeq?

Make sure to send in your answers before March 17th, 2012, 11:59PM CET for a chance to win a copy of The BIG 4 Bundle. The winner will be randomly chosen from all correct entries, and announced on this page on March 18th, 2012.

Good luck!

Focusrite announces new compression and equalizer emulations for Liquid Mix

Focusrite Liquid Mix

Focusrite has announced the release of 21 new compressor emulations and one new EQ emulation for Liquid Mix.

Focusrite’s Liquid assets will help you to make the most of your Focusrite Liquid products. With Liquid assets, you’ll find a growing library of emulations, programs and snapshots, with helpful filters and information regarding the original unit emulated.

The 15 new compression emulations are based on two compressors:

  1. API 2500 Stereo Compressor (serial number 001475) — The emulations offer combinations of Soft, Medium and Hard Knee settings; Loud, Medium and Normal ‘Thrust’ settings; and Feed-back and Feed-forward compression. This compressor can offer subtle to aggressive compression. The ‘Thrust’ settings are various levels of high-pass filtering in the sidechain, allowing less bass signal being fed to the compressor’s detection circuit. This results in heavier / punchier bass in the output signal. Feed-back is a vintage style, while feed-forward is a modern style of compression.
  2. Millenia STT-1 (serial number 0-166) — ‘Twin Topology’ Recording Channel. The emulations offer a combination of value (VT) or solid-state (SS) input stage, with or without transformer (TX), then routed to valve (VT) or solid-state (SS) compressor.

The EQ emulations are based on the original Mk1 Chandler Limited Edition EMI/Abbey Road Passive TG Channel.

This is a Unique EQ! The Chandler Limited Channel MKII Abbey Road Special Edition EMI is a recreation of several classic circuits and combines a TG2 preamp section with an equalizer that was redesigned from an equalization circuit used in the TG12410 Transfer or mastering console. It offers very sweet high frequencies with large inductor-based solid low frequencies, and a very high “Q” mid cut section.

The new emulations are available to download for free for all Liquid Mix users (including Liquid Mix HD).

Abbey Road Plug-ins releases TG12413 v2.0

Abbey Road Plug-ins EMI TG12413

Abbey Road Plug-ins has released version 2.0 of TG12413, an emulation of the compressor / limiter from the legendary EMI TG12345 mixing console, which was used on many classic recordings such as The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

The TG12345 consoles were never sold commercially and were only available to EMI studios.

The plug-in brings the sound of this rare and sought-after unit to the modern DAW user and sets a new standard in vintage hardware modelling. It functions as a 2:1 compressor or as a limiter with up to 20dB of gain reduction. It accurately reproduces the behaviour of the original and features an authentic, TG-style graphical interface. In addition, it can be used in multi-channel configurations, supporting up to 7.1 surround operation.

Two plug-in modules are included, providing variations on the TG sound: the ‘1969’ module is modelled on the original from the TG12345 console and the ‘2005’ module is based on Chandler Limited’s TG1 compressor / limiter.

TG12413 key features

  • Classic and contemporary modules.
  • Compressor and limiter modes from the original hardware.
  • TG-style controls and gain reduction meter.
  • Mono, stereo and multi-channel operation.
  • Automation and control surface support.

TG12413 is available in TDM ($560 USD), RTAS, VST and AU ($335 USD) versions.

Visit Abbey Road Plug-ins for more information.
