Versilian Studios releases Tubular Bells

Versilian Studios Tubular Bells

Versilian Studios has announced Tubular Bells, a sampled instrument for Windows.

Tubular Bells, otherwise known as Orchestra Chimes or Orchestra Bells, are a member of the percussion family often used to emulate the sound of church bells. It’s use is broad- everything from “epic orchestral” to concert band music and more.

This particular set has been deep-sampled to provide excellent playability and reasonably good sound quality, certainly good enough for any project. There is a very large dynamic range on the instrument, allowing it to ring out above the orchestra as it truly would, or sink behind quietly to just accent the flow of the piece. The chimes’ delays were recorded up to 10 seconds; pressing down the sustain pedal will unleash the full resonance of the chimes.

Tubular Bells features

  • c. 1 1/2 Octaves of chromatic sampling.
  • 2x Borrowed RR and 5 Velocity Layers.
  • Compact GUI to minimize screen space.
  • Faux Vibrato effect for spooky music.

Tubular Bells for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available to purchase for $10 USD.

AfroDJMac WindChime Synths

AfroDJMac has announced that the Wind Chime Ambience EP is now available.

I’ve released a new Ableton Live Collection and 4 track “Wind Chime Ambience EP,” all created with samples from beautifully hand-crafted-and-tuned metallic wind chimes.

The Ableton Live Pack includes 5 Instrument Racks, 4 Drum Racks, 4 Effect Racks, plus 10 additional presets. These Ableton Racks are quite diverse and easily manipulated with macro knobs. A couple of the instruments use wind chime samples that were recorded directly to reel to reel tape, adding to the organic feel.

Also included are the Live Projects for each of the 4 tracks on the” Wind Chime Ambiece EP.” This gives full access to how the tracks were created and how the different instruments can be manipulated to create a wide variety of sounds.

These wind chimes were sampled for the Wind Chimes Synths for Ableton Live, as well as the “WindChime Ambience EP” by AfroDJMac.

The Wind Chime Ambience EP is available to purchase for $5.99 USD.

Modartt releases Tubular Bells Christmas gift for Pianoteq

Modartt Tubular Bells

Modartt has released a new free add-on as Christmas gift: The Tubular Bells.

As a Christmas gift to all Pianoteq customers, we hereby announce our latest instrument add-on: a virtual copy of a Tubular Bells, also known as Symphonic Chimes.

Tubular Bells is an instrument made of brass tubes of graded length that are tuned to a chromatic scale and usually covers the range of 1½ octave. The sound is produced by striking the top edge of the tubes with a plastic-headed hammer. The instrument often includes an attached damping mechanism. It appeared for the first time in England in the late 19th Century, and is ever since part of major symphonic orchestras, known as symphonic chimes.

The Tubular Bells add-on is modelled after a Bergerault 18 Note concert chimes. Thanks to Pianoteq’s powerful technology, the note range in the virtual copy is extended into a 4-octave instrument.

The Tubular Bells is available to download for registered Pianoteq users.

HISS and a ROAR releases Chimes sample library

Related: , , Posted in news on Dec 09, 2011 - comment 0 comments

Hiss and a Roar has released Chimes, a sample library featuring the sounds of various chimes.

Hiss and a Roar SD009 Chimes

Wind chimes can be incredibly useful for colouring an ambience with subtle harmonics – I used them to great emotional effect as a nostalgic/memory device in the war film Home by Christmas. But they are also incredibly rewarding as source material for creating ambient textures and drones via processing. Bell trees and mark trees have been used over the years for many forms of ‘magical’ sounds, but their rich harmonic content does not limit their application to Disney impressions.

Recorded at 192kHz using four microphones with extended high frequency response (Sennheiser MKH800, MKH8050 and a pair of MKH8020s) this library contains a wealth of rich harmonic material, including eleven different wind chimes, ten percussion instruments (bell trees, mark trees, chime bars, glockenspeils) and four sets of bells (including some classic sleigh bells for any Christmas applications!)

The Chimes library is available to purchase in two editions:

  • Ultra $99 USD – 24bit 192kHz, 4 channel (MKH800 + MKH8050 and MKH8020x2), 7.2GB download / 10.8GB uncompressed.
  • Max $49 USD – 24bit 96kHz, stereo (MKH800 + MKH8050), 1.6GB download / 2.7GB uncompressed.
