Time+Space sponsors Exeter Classical Music Event

Time+Space has partnered with composer Ondrej Pochyly for the Exeter Classical Music Event, a classical music performance with a very modern twist.

Time+Space Exeter Classical Music Event with Ondrej Pochyly

Devon-based composer Ondrej Pochyly will be breaking technological and musical ground this Saturday at the Exeter Classical Music Event with a special orchestral display that is set to have audiences captivated.

Following the loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer two years ago, Ondrej began working on ‘Requiem for the Lost’ an hour-long piece of classical music which relays the tragic story of a cancer victim and their family – from the diagnosis, through to treatment, re-diagnosis, death and the aftermath.

But what makes this different to any other orchestral composition is that the piece has been created entirely with music software and will be performed live with Ondrej controlling the tempo and dynamics of the virtual instruments with Nintendo Wii remotes.

UK soundware distributor, Time+Space, who are official partners of the event and will be exhibiting on the day, provided most of the virtual instruments and software for the Logic-based set-up which includes Cinesamples VOXOS Epic Virtual Choir, Audio Bro’s LA Scoring Strings and Vienna Symphonic Library’s Vienna Suite, Ensemble Pro and Vienna Brass.

Speaking about the event, Ondrej said, “I believe that this project shows that technology and art can work together on creating new and exciting performances. This is not meant to replace orchestras but rather compliment them and I hope the public will enjoy this act for what it is. An emotional piece of art.”

The Requiem is just one of a series of performances organised by Ondrej as part of the Exeter Classical Music Event which is funded by both the National Lottery Arts Council and Exeter City Council. In addition to live performances from a variety of orchestras and musical projects, the event will also see the launch of a competition that invites young composers between the ages of 16 and 25 to create their own composition. The winner, to be announced in January next year, will win £500 and will get the chance to work alongside Ondrej to have their piece produced with virtual instruments and performed at next year’s event.

The Exeter Classical Music Event takes place this Saturday 2nd July between 11:00am and 11:00pm in the courtyard of Exeter Castle. Entry is free but donations are gratefully received with a percentage of the proceeds going towards Marie Curie Cancer Care.

A video presentation about the set-up for the Requiem plus a full schedule of the day’s events can be found at www.timespace.com/events

Cinesamples CineBrass

Cinesamples has announced the release of CineBrass, an orchestral brass sample library for Kontakt.

Recorded at the world famous SONY Pictures Scoring Stage in Los Angeles, and mixed by veteran legend Dennis Sands (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty).

CineBrass is revolutionary in its power and simplicity for recreating the sound of the orchestral brass section. The library was designed by composers, for composers, with direct feedback from the film music community during it’s development. The result is a brass library that is easy to use, composer-friendly, with unparalleled recording quality.

CineBrass features

  • 8.6GB Orchestral Brass Library powered by Kontakt Player.
  • All of the Articulations Patches in CineBrass contain shorts of various lengths and dynamics, as well as sustains. Recordings include multiple repetitions per note and multiple dynamics as follows:
    • Eighths Staccato @ 8xRR p to ff
    • Quarters Tenuto @ 4xRR p to ff
    • Halves Marcato @ 2xRR p to ff
    • Sustains with smooth dynamic morphing
  • Dynamic mapping of Articulations Patches, select from 5 intuitive presets in the user interface. A custom mapping grid is offered, for users who wish to customize the parameters beyond the presets. Every parameter and value is changeable, and nearly any combination is possible.
  • Smooth and realistic legato performance with True Legato; 2 dynamic levels using dynamic morphing to blend seamlessly from piano to fortissimo.
  • Polyphonic Legato mode allows you to play lines of 2 or more notes simultaneously, while maintaining the appropriate transition samples between all notes. This is especially effective when playing chords that need to connect in a realistic way.

Cinesamples Drums of War 2, percussion library for Kontakt

Cinesamples Drums of War 2

Cinesamples has released Drums of War 2, a percussion sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Drums of War 2 is the newest member to the cinesamples percussion family, and its parents are beaming. Following in the scope of the original Drums of War this new volume takes a different approach to achieving massive-percussive impact.

Whereas the paramount concept of DOW 1 was recording huge orchestral drums in a huge space this time we used specific instrumentation/production techniques to achieve our result. DOW 2 contains entirely new sample content and entirely new instruments – those which we have never sampled before. The foundation of this library being the mighty taikos.

Drums of War 2 features

  • 8 GB library, featuring Chang Chang, Djun Djuns*, Doumbek, Frame Drums*, Gong, Hang Drum, Kissing Fish Shaker, Metals, Mixing Bells, Mondo Toms*, One Shot Shaker, Shime Daikos*, Sub Boom, Tabla, Taikos* (* ensemble patches containing 2-4 sub patches + ensemble patches)
  • All DOW 2 percussion was sampled in 24/48 with the best gear, in a fantastic Los Angeles studio, by one of Hollywood’s most in-demand percussionists.
  • Everything recorded with 10xRR and up to 10 velocity layers.

Drums of War 2 for Kontakt 3.5 or higher (full version required) is available to purchase for the introductory price of $199 USD (regular $229 USD).

Cinesamples has also announced a Black Friday Sale.

This Friday, for 24 hours ONLY Cinesamples is offering discounts of up to 40% on ALL LIBRARIES. (*Offer does not apply to DOW2. VOXOS will be 20% off)

Cinesamples releases Kontakt Design: Volume 1 Metallurgy (+ free WaterGlass for Kontakt)

Cinesamples Kontakt Design: Volume 1 Metallurgy

Cinesamples has released Kontakt Design: Volume 1 Metallurgy, a new sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt 4.

The more Kontakt has continued its dominance in the sampling market the less we find ourselves with a desire to reach for other samplers. In fact more often then not we find ourselves trying to get older material into Kontakt. However we know that mapping and polishing patches can be a very time consuming (and demoralizing) process. We decided to do the heavy lifting for you here, setting up all the parameters in a recipe just reacquiring some creativeness!

We teamed up with the talented sound designers at Boom Library to create the source sample material. Their source material, with our interface, makes for a great pairing. This is vol. 1 of many more to come.

Kontakt already offers a wide variety of tools for modifying a source sound into a finished, produced sound however in the shadow of a looming deadline more often then not we are forced to use Kontakt pre-sets or other products to get what we need. Our intention with this product was to provide you with a set of tools, specially made for you to be creative without relying upon presets (even though we included a bunch of ideas just to get you started). Our first volume uses some wonderfully recorded metal/industrial source material.

Kontakt Design: Volume 1 Metallurgy is available to purchase for $149 USD.

Cinesamples has also announced WaterGlass, a free Kontakt instrument released in support of Charity: Water, a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

We want to try something to raise money for a great organization. Donate whatever you wish (sugg. $15). Help us reach our goal of $5000 for this great cause, and get a nice library. If we hit $5000, they will build a well for a community in need of clean water. Just go here to download the WaterGlass library for free (if you like it, consider donating any amount you want): http://cinesamples.chipin.com/charity-water
