Cubase IC Pro for Android

Steinberg has announced the immediate release of the Android version of Cubase iC Pro, an app for remote controlling the award-wining Cubase music production system via Wi-Fi.

“Since releasing Cubase iC Pro as iOS app, we’ve registered a massive demand to port the software to the Android environment. Cubase iC Pro for Android boasts the same feature set as the iOS version, offering users the ultimate possibility of remote controlling Cubase in many ways,” comments Carlos Mendoza Rohde, product marketing manager at Steinberg.

Cubase iC Pro comprises different screen configurations designed to leverage the real estate of large tablet displays but also to work nicely on smaller mobile devices. The project overview allows Cubase users to navigate quickly through the project with pinch-to-zoom functionality, change tempo and add markers. The transport section comes with playback controls and metronome. The channel mixer adjusts levels, panning, mute/solo, read/write automation and record arming for basic recordings. When running Cubase versions 7.5, 7 and 6.5 with Control Room capability, users are able to set up a maximum of four headphone cue-mixes, individually controlled by each Android device. The final feature provides customizable key commands and macros that allow users to assign virtually any command in Cubase to the controller, making it highly flexible and easy to use.

Cubase iC Pro has been tested with smartphones and tablets running Android versions 4.0.3, 4.0.4, 4.1.2 and 4.3. Cubase versions supporting Cubase iC Pro are Cubase versions 7.5, 7 and 6.5, Cubase Artist versions 7.5, 7 and 6.5 and Cubase LE, AI and Elements versions 7 and 6. Installing the Cubase iC Pro Remote Extension for Android is a requirement.

Cubase iC Pro is available as download through Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. The app can be downloaded for free, but the Cubase iC Pro Remote Extension for Android is required for the connection to Cubase and is available from the Steinberg Online Shop. The price for the component is 14.99 EUR including German VAT.

Acoustica AeroMIDI

Acoustica has announced the release of AeroMIDI, a new 3D MIDI controller software for Windows and Mac.

AeroMIDI allows users to trigger notes and MIDI continuous controller messages with hand and finger movements in 3D space.

AeroMIDI enables control of six expression parameters using only one hand, or use both hands and control up to 12 simultaneous expression parameters. User-defined virtual spaces called “cubes” and “zones” allow easy triggering of events, beats or notes. Perform a gesture, such as a two-fingered swipe to the left, and suddenly you’ve enabled a whole new mode or set of expression controls and MIDI actions.

Simply plug a Leap Motion Controller into a USB port, load and install the AeroMIDI software, and start your MIDI software or external synthesizer. AeroMIDI then sends controller data and notes to MIDI software or external hardware. Control synthesizers, lighting rigs, visualizers, DAWs, effects, virtual instruments, and any other MIDI-capable hardware or software with AeroMIDI.

AeroMIDI features

  • Gestures translate hand movements with very low latency.
  • Translate hand & finger movements and rotation to MIDI controller data with very low latency.
  • Play notes by moving or rotating hands.
  • Configurable virtual 3D cubes let you build your own custom controller interface.
  • Simultaneously control MIDI expression parameters in three dimensions, including hand rotation.
  • Windows- and Mac-compatible (Windows 7+ and Mac OS X 10.6+).
  • Requires the Leap Motion Controller (Support for other 3D input devices coming soon).
  • Works with all MIDI software, hardware and DAWs, including Acoustica’s Mixcraft 6.

AeroMIDI is available to purchase for $29.99 USD. Acoustica will demonstrate the software at the Winter NAMM at Booth 6428, Hall A.

Waves Dugan Automixer

Waves has announced Dugan Automixer, a plugin that allows automatic cueing of multiple live microphones in real time.

Developed in association with renowned pro audio inventor Dan Dugan, the Waves Dugan Automixer is a groundbreaking software version of the popular Dugan Speech System Automatic Mixing Controllers used the world over.

Incorporating Dugan’s proprietary voice-activated process, the Waves Dugan Automixer plugin automatically controls the gains of multiple microphones in real time, dramatically reducing feedback, studio noise and comb filtering from adjacent microphones. It maintains a consistent system gain, even when multiple speakers are talking simultaneously, and makes perfectly matched crossfades, without any signal compression, and without a noise gate that may cause unwanted sonic artifacts.

Available for virtually any console, the Dugan Automixer is the ultimate solution for broadcast news panels, talk shows, houses of worship, film and television dialog recording, and any other discussion panel or conference scenario involving multiple microphones and participants.

The Dugan Automix is available to purchase for $500 USD (Native) / $750 USD (SoundGrid).

IK Multimedia intros iRing motion controller for iOS

Related: , , , , , , , , , , , Posted in news on Jan 08, 2014 - comment 0 comments

IK Multimedia has announced iRing, the first motion-tracking controller for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch music apps and more.

IK Multimedia iRing

Now musicians, gamers, and more can trigger sounds and control effects and other parameters of their favorite apps, in real time, using hand position, freeing them from touching the screen!

iRing utilizes a wearable ring with identifiable markers, the mobile device’s front-facing camera, and advanced computer vision with highly-optimized recognition algorithms built-in to an app, to determine the precise positioning of the ring markers. The device camera picks up the positioning of the ring patterns and the apps convert that information into music commands for dedicated app or MIDI information, which any compatible music app can read. This means that a user can now operate up to six controllable music parameters in their preferred music apps with one or two hands gestures.

iRing includes two identical double-sided ring controllers, plus two free apps for music applications, which target everyone from music lovers to DJs to seasoned musicians: iRing Music Maker and iRing FX/Controller.

iRing features

  • Ring controller, in tandem with either of two included apps featuring advanced motion-tracking technology, allows remote control of iOS app and app parameters using hand gestures.
  • Great for musicians and non-musicians alike.
  • Includes two identical, two-pattern reversible rings, allowing for numerous control combinations and the control up to 6 effect parameters simultaneously with two hands.
  • Rings are unique looking, light, comfortable and provide a universal fit.
  • Included iRing Music Maker app allows novices to make music using hand gestures.
  • Included iRing FX/Controller app lets musicians and DJs create custom MIDI control setups, plus add and control audio effects when used together with other music apps via Inter-App Audio or Audiobus.

iRing will cost $24.99 USD/19.99 EUR (exc. taxes), and will be available in Q1 2014 in three colors (white, green and silver). Pre-orders are already available on the IK Multimedia online store and selected stores. iRing FX/Controller and iRing Music Maker apps will be available as free downloads from the App Store.
