audioMIDI.com has returned with another “No-Brainer” Deal, this time for ToonTrack Drumtracker, a stand alone, host independent, multi-track audio to MIDI converter.
Specifically designed to convert drum session audio recordings to MIDI files for drum replacement purposes, Drumtracker® will grant your drums a new lease on life.
FEED > CONVERT > REPLACE, three easy steps to bring your drum tracks into the 21st Century!
The built-in filters in Drumtracker® allow you to quickly detect the most common instruments and specify the velocity threshold for each section of your song. In addition, you may, of course, save your own filter presets to gain valuable time when sound replacing.
Best of all, Drumtracker® lets you select which part or parts of a drum audio track to convert, down to each single hit. You can change the velocity, delete, add or move trigger points to your requirements, giving you manual control of tracking and converting audio to MIDI, to supplement automatic detection.
Audition the triggered parts using Drumtracker® built-in sample library, then, when you are happy with the result, convert the MIDI rendered by Drumtracker® to the mapping system of your favorite drum sampler.
Toontrack Drumtracker for PC and Mac is now available to purchase from audioMIDI.com for $20 USD.

ION has announced a new series of vinyl-transfer turntables: PROFILE LP, PROFILE FLASH, iPROFILE and PROFILE EXPRESS.
Each new turntable in ION’s PROFILE series is designed with contemporary, low-profile looks. PROFILE LP, PROFILE FLASH and iPROFILE are finished in sleek, piano black, while PROFILE EXPRESS is finished in sleek silver.
Each model enables consumers to turn the music on their vinyl records into flexible MP3 files they can listen to on a computer, load onto an iPod or record to CD. All models can convert virtually any standard record, including 33, 45 and 78 RPM.
New Vinyl-To-Mp3 Turntables
- PROFILE EXPRESS and PROFILE LP are LP-conversion turntables that offer a standard USB connection, enabling users to connect to a Mac or PC. Once connected, users can easily and quickly transfer music directly to an iTunes music library as MP3s, using ION’s exclusive EZ Vinyl Converter software. PROFILE LP also contains a protective dust cover.
- PROFILE FLASH enables users to convert music on records to MP3s without connecting to a computer. PROFILE FLASH records music directly onto an SD card or USB flash drive for listening in portable music players and mobile phones with micro SD slots.
- iPROFILE records directly from vinyl to an iPod without requiring a computer connection. The LP-conversion system features a turntable with a Universal Dock for iPod.

RME has announced it is now shipping the M-Series of converters with MADI and ADAT interface.
RME’s comprehensive MADI line is now extended by hi-class multichannel converters with 16 and 32 channels. The M-series converters have been conceived and optimized for professional studio, stage, and broadcast applications.
Packed into only 2U height the M-32 AD offers a 32-channel AD-conversion to MADI and ADAT in reference quality. The fully symmetrical analog circuit design guarantees excellent S/N and THD specs across a wide analog level range. Using up-to-date converter technology, the device not only works up to 192 kHz, but also reaches a real-world signal-to-noise ratio of 116 dBA – on all channels. Further features are analog limiters for an efficient protection of the analog inouts against overload, three hardware reference levels up to +24 dBu, MADI and ADAT I/O, analog inputs via 6.3mm TRS and D-sub connectors, remote control via MIDI and MIDI over MADI, and operation across a wide range of mains voltages.
Nearly identical features are found in the M-32 DA, which offers a 32-channel high-end DA conversion. It is easy to operate despite having a comprehensive feature set. The unit combines excellent analog circuit design with the latest converter chips and RME’s superior SteadyClock into a state-of-the-art DA conversion, with outstanding THD and S/N specs of up to 118 dBA.
Both converters are also available as 16-channel versions. Except for the reduced channel count M-16 AD and M-16 DA are identical to their bigger brothers.
Included ADAT ports make the M-series not only first choice with MADI, but also a perfect solution for all other units having ADAT interfaces.

Some interesting things I found recently:
# Blushing Boy Peacock
We have been working in a concept for a different type of music instrument. Putting together some feminist theory of music, some love for strange sounding animals, a laser engraver, a bunch of sliders, some orange LEDs and a lot of patience, we created the Peacock.
The Peacock is an instrument for live performace or personal exploration of both live and digitized sounds. You can get sound from an SD card or record it through its mic-in. The sound will be looped and affected in different ways by different effects and digital filters.
# NerdKits – Piezoelectric Sound Meter
To show off microcontrollers and our kits during the event, we built a sound meter which uses the piezoelectric buzzer (included with our USB NerdKit) in reverse, as a microphone. This provides an opportunity to demonstrate a single transistor amplifier, to make the signals from the piezoelectric element big enough for the microcontroller's analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to read.
# * Casper Electronics » Drone Lab
The Drone Lab is an analog sound module specially designed for making dense, rich drones.
Peter Edwards writes:
I wanted to design something that could fit in your hand but still deliver some heavy sound.
Solid State Logic has announced the forthcoming release of Pro-Convert v5.5 for Mac.
The release of Pro-convert for the Mac computer platform brings the freedom to exchange projects between DAWs to a wider user base and introduces a new user interface for the application.
Pro-Convert enables workstation users to convert session files from one format to another. The new Mac version supports several of the most popular workstation formats: ProTools 7.x, Cubase/Nuendo, Logic, Final Cut Pro and SSL’s own Soundscape.
The Mac version also sees the introduction of a new user interface that will be made available to Windows users in autumn 2009. The new interface presents a single control window from which all project settings can be manipulated. The new interface provides identical functionality to the Windows version of Pro-Convert but streamlines the user experience and facilitates the ability to save conversion presets that enable users to return to frequently used project configurations quickly and efficiently, according to SSL.
Pro-Convert for Mac will be available from May 2009 for 499 EUR / $699 USD.
