Steinberg updates Cubasis to v1.7, VST 3.6 SDK gets iOS support + free Nanologue synthesizer for iPad

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on Nov 22, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Steinberg has announced three iOS-related releases, comprising an update to its Cubasis multitouch sequencer for the iPad, iOS support for the VST 3.6 SDK, and the free Nanologue synthesizer for iPad.

Cubasis 1.7 is a free update now adding Inter-App Audio capability for routing and controlling audio between iOS apps in a single project. The newly available Software Development Kit (SDK) for version 3.6 of Steinberg’s Virtual Studio Technology (VST) allows deployment of iOS apps with Inter-App Audio and introduces many new enhancements. Nanologue is Steinberg’s latest iOS app for the iPad: a virtual-analog synthesizer for monophonic leads and basses.

Steinberg Nanalogue

Carlos Mendoza Rohde, product marketing manager at Steinberg, comments: “With Inter-App Audio introduced to iOS 7, we’ve been keen to implement this feature into Cubasis. While using the momentum, we added iOS support to our VST SDK and are providing an iPad synthesizer based on this technology for free!”

Adding full Inter-App Audio implementation to Cubasis 1.7 allows iOS apps with Inter-App Audio capability to be used as instruments on both audio and MIDI tracks. It is also possible to use compatible apps as insert or send effects within the Cubasis iOS digital audio workstation for the iPad.

Alongside the VST 2.4, VST 3 and Audio Unit formats, the new SDK for VST 3.6 now allows developers to compile the code for iOS compatibility with Inter-App Audio support, turning the VST development kit into a platform capable of outputting four acclaimed formats conveniently from one technology source. Other new features to the latest SDK release include enhancements to the VST 2 and Audio Unit wrappers, iOS support for the new 4.2 version of VSTGUI, Steinberg’s cross-platform C++ library for developing UI-based plug-ins, and a new validation tool for VST 3 host applications.

Based on this new SDK release, Nanologue is a virtual-analog monophonic synthesizer that can be used on the iPad as stand-alone app or together with a iOS host application via Inter-App Audio functionality, such as with the latest 1.7 update to Cubasis. Including 50 factory presets, Nanologue boasts a cross-modulation oscillator with two waveforms, glide, a VCF envelope, LFO, delay and a filter section with cutoff, resonance and distortion. User presets can be exported to the Retrologue VST instrument, included in Cubase 7, Cubase Artist 7, Cubase 6.5 and Cubase Artist 6.5.

Cubasis 1.7 is a free update available through the App Store on iTunes. The SDK for VST 3.6 is freely available from the Steinberg website. Nanologue is available as free App Store download on iTunes.

Steinberg releases Cubase iC Air gesture control for Cubase

Steinberg Cubase iC Air

Steinberg has announced the release of Cubase iC Air, allowing users of Cubase 7 or Cubase Artist 7, together with Leap Motion Controller or Intel systems powered by the Intel Perceptual Computing SDK, to control Steinberg’s popular DAW intuitively by the command of gestures.

“With the advent of various gesture recognition technologies we’ve been looking into possibilities to control Cubase in a novel way by using simple hand gestures as an alternative control alongside the conventional mouse and keyboard — and Cubase iC Air is our first achievement in this field of research,” comments Shih Ming Law, key developer for Cubase iC Air.

Cubase iC Air embeds a control panel within Cubase 7 and Cubase Artist 7, giving visual feedback of the user’s hand gestures that are picked up by depth cameras from Leap Motion and Intel. Pre-programmed gestural commands allow the user to perform transport controls, such as start, stop, forward and rewind, to jump to the next or previous track, to audition through sections of audio and zoom in and out the arrangement.

By implementing a virtual version of Steinberg’s AI Knob, users are also able to control many other parameters of Cubase as well as VST 2.4 and VST 3 plug-ins through Cubase iC Air.

Intel global account manager Jean-Pierre Navarro says: “The great collaboration with Steinberg’s developer team helps get the most of the Intel platform and the Intel Perceptual Computing SDK. Cubase iC Air provides users with a new and exciting way of interaction. This is an entirely new way of experiencing music.”

Cubase iC Air is a software component that requires Cubase 7 or Cubase Artist 7 as host application and a Leap Motion Controller or depth camera run by the Intel Perceptual Computing SDK.

Cubase iC Air is available to download at no charge.

Advanced Audiowaves updates Track Align Pro to v1.2.0

Advanced Waves has released version 1.2.0 of Track Align Pro, a VST plug-in for Mac allowing to time align an audio track to a reference one in real-time.

Advanced Audiowaves Track Align Pro

TAP processing is looking at each sample of the incoming audio signal and find its position in relation to the side-chain reference track exactly like any audio engineer would do by zooming inside the audio waveforms. But instead of just looking to the first samples or first audio transients to save time, TAP processes the input audio along the full length of the track in order to keep it always aligned.

Changes in Track Align Pro v1.2.0

  • Steinberg Cubase 7.0.6 & Nuendo 6.0.6 official support.
  • Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks ready.
  • Lastest detection engine refinements.
  • Improved audio signal discrimination between similar and unrelated audio signals.
  • New side-chain led red state when audio signal is unrelated to audio input.
  • Fix wrong audio buffer at end of audio clips on silent or inactive audio track.
  • Improved delay changes when audio track is silent or inactive.
  • Graphical user interface code redesign for better performance.
  • Fix initial graphical user interface state.
  • Fix possible lock of graphical user interface.
  • Fix – known issue – graphical user interface crash when closing a project.
  • Latest iLok protection and activation.

Track Align Pro for Mac (VST) is available to purchase for 219 EUR. Requires iLok.
