Homegrown Sounds releases Sequlation for DSI Evolver

Homegrown Sounds Sequlation for DSI Evolver

Homegrown Sounds has announced the release of Sequlation, a soundset for the DSI Evolver synthesizer.

Sequlation is a set of 128 Presets for the Dave Smith Instruments Evolver with the intention of providing a professional & creative set of musically useful Sequences. The Evolver can be a wild beast capable of extreme insanity, this collection sets out to prove it also has a calmer musical side, but of course each preset can easily be coaxed back to the brink if you so wish. The Sequences cover a broad spectrum of styles, and are also excellent starting points for adapting to your own style. Aftertouch and Mod Wheel assignments are used throughout for real time manipulation.

3 different Sysex files are provided of the Bank which use either Sequence Mode, Gate Re-trigger Mode or Gate Mode respectively depending on which mode you prefer. The Bank will be loaded into Bank B, so be sure to backup your old bank first if uploading directly. It can be uploaded to the Evolver using your usual method such as Midi-Ox or the Sound Tower application etc…

The soundset is available to purchase for the introductory price of $20 USD until April 2nd, 2014 (regular $35 USD).

Dave Smith Instruments ships Prophet 12 Module

Dave Smith Instruments has announced that its twelve-voice hybrid digital/analog Prophet 12 Module is now shipping.

DSI Prophet 12 Module

“We have had many requests from professional musicians for a small, easily portable version of the Prophet 12 keyboard, with all the same features and incredible sound,” says Smith. “The new Prophet 12 module is just that: it has all the power of the Prophet 12 keyboard — in fact, it has the exact same voice board — and it fits into a backpack.”

All those powerful Prophet 12 module parameters are easily editable via a well-thought-through front panel perfectly fit for purpose. “People like small these days,” declares its astute architect. “Many musicians also have more than enough keyboards, or simply don’t use keyboards. The Prophet 12 module offers a sleek design that still gives you easy and incredibly fast and intuitive control over all parameters.”

The Prophet 12 module is avaialble to purchase for MAP $2,199.00 USD.

Dave Smith Instruments has announced the Prophet 12 Module, a space-saving tabletop and rack-ready reworking of its recently released Prophet 12 keyboard hybrid digital/analog synthesizer.

Just like its Prophet 12 keyboard counterpart, the twelve-voice hybrid digital/analog Prophet 12 module not only boasts the greatest number of voices of any instrument from the distinguished designer to date, but each of those voices features four OSCILLATORS capable of generating classic and complex waveforms, a sub-oscillator (Sub Octave), analog resonant LOW-PASS FILTER and analog HIGH-PASS FILTER, and analog VOLTAGE CONTROLLED AMPLIFIER. Additional features include a tuned FEEDBACK path, a four-tap stereo DELAY per voice, expanded ARPEGGIATOR functionality, deep MODULATION capabilities, bi-timbral operation, and much more besides. The CHARACTER section adds a variety of out of the ordinary wave-shaping and sound-sculpting options like Girth (low shelf filtering that boosts low frequencies, with some extra harmonic modification at higher settings), Air (high shelf filtering that boosts high frequencies, with some extra harmonic modification at higher settings), Hack (reduces the bit depth of the mixed output from the oscillators), Decimation (reduces the sample rate of the mixed output from the oscillators), and Drive (emulates tape saturation).

Despite its comparatively diminutive dimensions, the back panel I/O of the Prophet 12 module matches that of the Prophet 12 keyboard in almost all aspects — apart from featuring an external power supply in the interests of making it as compact and portable as possible. Headphones, Main/A Outputs, B Outputs, MIDI Thru, MIDI Out, MIDI In, Pedal 1, Pedal 2, Sustain, and USB connectivity are all present and accounted for, making musical communication with the outside world a breeze.

Be prepared to be blown away by the Prophet 12 module. It won’t break backpacks, but packs more than enough power into its easily carried form factor to meet the needs of modern music makers and savvy sound designers — wherever they take it.

The Prophet 12 Module has an MAP of $2,199.00 USD and can be purchased from any authorized Dave Smith Instruments dealer.

Dave Smith Instruments announces Mopho Special Edition Keyboard

Dave Smith Instruments has introduced a special edition of the Mopho Keyboard, its popular monophonic analog synthesizer.

Dave Smith Instruments Mopho SE

“The Mopho family of instruments has been ground-breaking for us and for our customers in terms of value,” said DSI’s Andrew McGowan. “And I think it’s pretty apparent from the way the industry responded that we were on to something with smaller, more affordable, but full-featured instruments, whether modules or keyboards. But there is no typical synthesizer user and we’ve gotten feedback from customers who loved the synth’s sound and features, but who wanted an instrument with a larger keyboard. Now there is one.”

The Mopho SE (special edition) sports an expanded, full-sized, 44-note, semi-weighted keyboard with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch. The larger keyboard facilitates certain playing techniques—like smears for synth bass lines—and is more appropriate for use as a MIDI controller both onstage and in the studio. Even with the additional octave of keys, it’s still just a little more than 25 inches long and its trim profile and light weight make it ideal for gigging. And, like the other Mopho Keyboards, the polyphony can be expanded with the addition of a DSI Tetra or another Mopho synth.

The front panel artwork is now screen printed directly onto the Mopho SE’s sturdy metal enclosure. And it features a full complement of the Prophet 12’s great looking, and even better feeling, soft-touch knobs.

“A lot of synths in this price range have to cut corners to hit a price point; the Mopho SE takes a no compromise approach. As a family of products, these instruments offer great sound and a lot of bang for the buck to a wide variety of players,” concluded McGowan. “There’s a Mopho for just about every synth need.”

The Mopho SE will be shipping by the end of October with a projected MAP of $949 USD.

Dave Smith Instruments has introduced the Prophet 12, a new polyphonic synthesizer.

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12

Dave Smith unveils the Prophet 12 at the 2013 NAMM Show.

“After 35 years of creating synths, this is simply my best synth yet,” said Smith. “We sort of started from scratch on this one rather than spinning off another product from our previous designs.”

At twelve voices, the Prophet 12 boasts the greatest polyphony of any instrument designed by Smith. Each voice features four oscillators capable of generating classic and complex waveforms, a sub-oscillator, resonant analog low- and high-pass filters, and analog VCAs. The new Character section adds a variety of wave shaping and sound sculpting options, like Drive, Hack, Decimation, Girth, and Air. Additional features include a tuned feedback path, a four-tap stereo delay per voice, expanded arpeggiator functionality, deep modulation capabilities, and bi-timbral operation. The LFOs, delay, and arpeggiator can all be synced, either to the internal clock or an external MIDI clock. Two programmable position- and pressure-sensitive touch sliders take the performance controls beyond the standard pitch and mod wheels (also included).

“We’re already blown away by the sonic breadth of this synthesizer’s new voice architecture,” Smith continued. “It doesn’t sound like anything else and I’m very excited for people to hear it.”

The Prophet 12 is expected to be available Q2 of 2013 with a projected MAP of $2,999 USD.

Francis Prève releases free Mopho X4 Live Pack

Dave Smith Mopho X4

Francis Prève has released a free Mopho X4 sound library for Ableton Live.

Dave Smith’s Mopho X4 made my Beatport News 2012 Top 10 Tech Tools list for good reason. It can sound sweet-as-pie or downright nasty, depending on how you program it.

Since my previous downloads have been a tad on the smooth side, I decided to explore the grungy, filthy aspects of the X4 – resulting in seven Simpler instruments that really show what it can do.

The Mopho X4 Simpler Pack for Ableton Live (compatible with Ableton Live 8.1.5 and higher) is a free download.
