Drum Drops releases Royal Drops soul drum tracks

Drumdrops Royal Drops

Drum Drop has launched Royal Drops, a sample library featuring a collection of fifteen soul drum tracks.

Royal Drops is an album of 15 soul drum tracks, engineered and performed by Timmy Rickard. Royal Drops takes its reference from the music produced at Royal studio in Memphis during the 1970′s. Home to legendary producer and founder of Hi Records, Willie Mitchell. The tracks are based upon recordings of Hi Record artists Al Green and Anne Peebles, with drummers Al Jackson JR and Howard Grimes providing their unmistakable grooves.

This release incorporates key components found in the classic Hi Records drum sound, including swung bass drum patterns, 8th note emphasis on the hi hats, classically simple drum fills and a few 6/8 drum grooves. A big reason why this drum style is so revered is because of the thoughtful simplicity in which Al Jackson JR and Howard Grimes composed their drum parts. Using that same ethos, Royal Drops will be perfect for a wide range of producers and composers who are looking for timeless grooves to get creative with.

The Royal Drops album is available to purchase for £60 GBP (multi-tracks, unmixed) / £42 GBP (stems, mixed) / £30 (drum loops). Tracks are also sold individually.

Drumdrops has introduced the Rogers Big R Dub Kit, the ultimate dub kit sample library.

This kit has been used to record Drumdrops in Dub Volume 3 and Drumdrops in Ska as well as many other commercial releases.

The kit is comprised of a 24″ x 14″ Bass Drum, a Ludwig Black Magic 14″ x 6.5″ Snare Drum, a Ludwig Acrolite 14″ x 5″ Snare Drum, a huge 18″ x 16″ Floor Tom, and two Rack Toms, a 14″ x 10″ and a 13″ x 8″. The cymbals used were 15″ Zildjian A Sweet Hi-Hats and a 17″ A Custom Crash. Percussion for this kit includes a 14″ Timbale drum and a set of Bongos. Also included is some Electronic Percussion using a Boss PC-2 Percussion Synthesizer and a Tama Techstar TS-204.

The recording and mixing took place in Miloco’s The Ironworks in Brighton, UK. At the centre of the Control Room can be found a rare vintage 1970s BBC console. The outboard racks are full of great gear including a Lang PEQ-2 EQ, a Langevin EQ258A EQ, and plenty of dub reverbs. All of the drums were recorded without compression. Mike chose not to record any room microphones for this kit as he wanted a tight, dry Reggae sound.

Drumdrops releases 70s New Wave Drops

Drumdrops 70s New Wave Drops

Drumdrops has introduced 70s New Wave Drops, a drum multi-tracks, stems and loops album featuring 13 drum tracks by drummer Pete Thomas who played and recorded on nearly all of Elvis Costello’s albums.

Producer/engineer Roger Bechirian came in to record, mix and produce the drum tracks on ’70s New Wave Drops’. Roger was responsible for recording and mixing many of Elvis Costello’s albums, as well as other New Wave records by the likes of Nick Lowe, Squeeze and The Undertones making him an obvious choice for the production of ‘70s New Wave Drops’.

The selection of tracks range in tempo from 80 BPM to 167 BPM and the grooves are full of driving snares and tom fills. For fans of Elvis Costello they will recognise a number of the tracks – ‘I Don’t Want to Go To Chelsea’, ‘Oliver’s Army’, ‘Radio Radio’, ‘Pump It Up’ are just some of the featured grooves.

The kit used was a Hybrid Gretsch kit and a more modern DW Collector Series provided by London based Drumhire (www.drumhire.com). We used the DW kick drum with Gretsch toms and Zildjian A Cymbals. Two snares were used: Pete Thomas’ Ludwig 400 snare (which is the very same snare Pete used on the original tracks); and a 1970’s Ludwig Black Beauty snare.

The album was recorded in Miloco’s The Square recording studio, London using an SSL G Series console with Telefunken and Calrec mic pre’s. The kit was mic’d up with 12 microphones including Coles Ribbons, Neumann U47 Fets and AKG C28 valve mics. All of the tracks were recorded on to a 16 track Analogue 2” machine. The Square has recently been used by bands and artists such as Hurts, The Vaccines, The Kooks, Paulo Nutini and Plan B.

Mixing took place in Miloco’s The Engine Room, which is based around an SSL G Series console and a collection of outboard including EAR valve EQs, Manley Vari-Mu Compressors and Calrec PQ1161 EQs, all of which featured prominently in the album mixes.

Drumdrops offers the ’70s New Wave Drops’ as drum multi-tracks, mixes & drum stems and drum loops. All of the multi-tracks come with session templates for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live, Reaper and Studio One. An OMF file is also provided should you need to export the 24 bit 44.1 WAVs into any other DAW. A beat tempo map is included to help users sync up the drum machines.

The stem and mix packs come with the full mix of drums, as well as separate drum stems of each individual drum component. The stems are designed for those who want the ready-mixed versions of the drums so that you can build your track quickly.

The drum loops packs contain around 8 different 4-bar loops taken from each track and are provided as mixes of the individual drum parts, as well as the full mix. Available formatted as WAVs, Apple Loops and Rex2 files, they can be dropped into any software, sampler or drum machine.

70s New Wave Drops is available to purchase for $46.50 USD (Loops Pack) / $54.25 USD (Stems and Mix Files) / $77.50 USD (Multitrack Session). Individual album tracks are also sold separately.

Drumdrops launches Now That’s What I Call 80′s Drums

Drumdrops Now That's What I Call 80's Drums

Drumdrops has announced Now That’s What I Call 80′s Drums, a collection of 80′s drum beats.

Featuring twenty 80s Pop drum tracks ranging from 71BPM to 179BPM, this is a wide-ranging collection of 1980s beats. It takes influences from a variety of 1980s acts, with nods towards drum grooves synonymous with the styles of George Michael, De La Soul, Soul 2 Soul, Happy Mondays, Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode, to name a few.

Performing the tracks is drummer Steve Sidelnyk (Madonna, Annie Lennox, Massive Attack), who began his career in the 1980s. The album was recorded by Brit Award-winning producer/engineer Chris Potter (The Verve, U2). To complete the 80s vibe, recording took place at Miloco’s Sofa Sound studios in West London, which is owned by producer Hugh Padgham (The Police, Genesis, Phil Collins).

Recorded on an SSL G-Series console with a rack of vintage Neve 1081s and 1064s, they were able to recreate an authentic 80s Pop Drum sound. All of the drum tracks were recorded to 2″ 24-track tape on a Studer A800 tape machine, while the live room added a suitably controlled drum sound.

A DW Collector Series drum kit was used for this recording. The snare drums used were a Ludwig Black Beauty, Ludwig Coliseum and a DW Craviotto. The kit was fitted with Evans drum heads, and nineteen microphones were used to record it, ensuring what we at Drumdrops believe is the best sound possible – have a listen for yourself.

Now That’s What I Call 80s Drums is available to purchase as Multitrack Sessions for £80 GBP, Stems and Mix Files for £55 GBP, or a Loops Pack for £45 GBP. Single tracks are also sold individually.

Drumdrops announces 1963 Premier Outfits 54 single shot multi-velocity drum kit

Drumdrops 1963 Premier Outfits 54

Drumdrops has announced the upcoming 1963 Premier Outfits 54, the first release in a series of 8 single shot multi-velocity drum kits.

Already one of the world’s leading places to purchase bespoke live drum tracks as multi- tracks, stems and loops, Drumdrops.com are now gearing up to start selling the first of their high-standard, single shot multi-velocity drum kits from May 2013.

The first kit set for release is the Vintage 1963 Premier Outfits 54 Kit, similar to the one played by Ringo Starr in his early career. This classic vintage kit was recorded in Miloco’s The Pool in London, taking advantage of the studio’s fantastic sounding live space. The talents of drummer, Adam Falkner, were harnessed to sample the kit in multiple velocity steps to create the most realistic sounding packs possible. This kit is an essential addition to any drum library, offering the highest quality authentic sounding 60s kit at your fingertips.

To make projects even easier, the 1963 Premier Outfits 54 kit is available to purchase in three separate packs.

1963 Premier Outfits 54 features

  • The Kontakt 5 Pack — Probably the most impressive part about this forthcoming release; Drumdrops have built their own Kontakt 5 interface featuring everything existing Kontakt 5 users have come to expect. Sixteen velocity levels are included on each articulation and multiple round robins resulting in over 7000 samples, ensures this kit is meticulously and successfully matched to the real thing. The mixer has mute, solo, pan, phase, routing and two aux sends and each channel comes with a 4-band EQ and Transient Master. Custom velocity curves and MIDI Mapping are also standard. There are a number of convolution reverbs included, which have been taken from a variety of commercial studios, and some of the more interesting spring and plate reverbs, whilst randomisation features further enhance the authentic sound. These are just some of the features on the forthcoming pack. For a detailed overview, click here to download the manual.
  • The Multi-Velocity Pack — Don’t have Kontakt 5? Don’t worry – Drumdrops have covered that, too! This pack is perfect for the pro’s that may want a smaller sample set to add to their library, and with up to sixteen velocity levels on each articulation and no round robins, it’s the ideal choice. Built to load up in any sampler or drum machine, Drumdrops have also made life easier, going that one step further by including templates for Kontakt, Battery, EXS24, idrum, Maschine, with Geist and MIDI templates included for the sampler templates. You can download the multi-velocity Pack manual here.
  • The Single Hits Pack — Designed with drum machine users in mind or those who don’t need multiple velocities, simplicity was the key with this pack and with just three velocities included, there’s a super simple price to go with it as well. Like the multi-velocity kit, this single hit package features the same templates for ease and accessibility; just download and go! To download the single pack manual click here.

The Premier Outfits 54 Kit for Kontakt will be available to purchase on May 7th, 2013, priced at £30 GBP. The multi-velocity and single hits packs are priced £10 GBP and £5 GBP respectively. More kits will be released over the coming months.
