Spitfire releases PP010 – Rare Groove Piano

Spitfire Rare Groove Piano

Spitfire Audio has launched Rare Groove Piano, a new sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

If rare groove is your bag, this vintage and super primitive Vox electric piano, finger bass and electro-harpsichord will be a vital addition to your funk arsenal.

This 1960′s electric piano has been given a total Spitfire “once-over” (608 groups, 19638 zones, 8940 samples, 25065 seconds / 418 minutes / 7.0 hours, 6880 mb / 6.72 gb!!) with us deep sampling the unit to give you as close a replication of its sound possible via the finest Neve Pre-Amps and Cranesong AD converters. Alongside a host of additional signal paths via rarefied vintage outboard that fit with the style of the instrument.

As the Vox E.P. doesn’t sound the same every time play it, we have painstakingly recorded it with numerous round robins. We have isolated each sound; first the piano, then the harpsichord and finally the bass. We then scripted a mixer that behaves just as it does on the instrument itself. Mix and blend the Harpsichord and Piano, or switch in the Bass to play in split keyboard mode, which you can then mix and blend.

We have modelled the vibrato found on the instrument and have given you both intensity and speed controls for this.

Vintage outboard signal paths include a Telefunken Spring Reverb, a Roland Dimension D specially shipped from Japan, re-amping into a marshall JV combi series via fine BBC Coles ribbon mics, and the modern classic that is the Thermionic Culture Vulture.

The library is available for purchase for the introductory price of £20 until July 1st, 2014 (regular £25 GBP).

UVI releases EGP Hybrid Electric Grand Piano

UVI EGP

UVI has announced the release of EGP, a hybrid electric grand piano instrument based on the Yamaha CP-70.

An entire piano studio at your fingertips, EGP was approached with the goal of creating the most comprehensive and authentic electric grand piano software instrument ever, offering multiple preparations, 5 fully mixable channels, discrete EQ, effects and dynamics for both the electric and acoustic signals, versatile performance options and more.

A core library of over 10,000 samples was created utilizing high-end microphones, preamps and converters. 5 signals were captured including the raw electric output and the instrument acoustics miked in both L/R and M/S configurations. Complete control is given to the end-user, allowing for gain and mute control on a per-mic and group level. Additionally, EQ, effects and dynamics are provided for the acoustic and electric signals independently. Add a touch of reverb to the acoustic section, some overdrive, chorus and a longer attack to the electric signal, EQ both to taste—the sound shaping options are deep, quick to control and immensely rewarding.

EGP offers an extensive sonic range well beyond that of a typical electric grand. Multiple preparations like pick, bow, ebow, mutes, brush and more were recorded allowing you to create everything from plucked melodies to shimmering drone sounds in immaculate detail. Each preparation was approached with the greatest care, capturing round robins, release samples, pedal noise and sympathetic resonance. Combined with ADSR amp control and performance options like built-in wheel strum, EGP is an extremely dynamic and expressive instrument with a wide sonic range.

Pristine sound quality and an elegant UI are just the beginning. Under the hood of EGP you’ll find UVI’s sophisticated Engine XT™. With over 10 years of R+D behind it, Engine XT now sports an advanced, realtime compression system providing up to 7x faster load times and an average 70% reduction in file size. This translates to a dramatic improvement in workflow and delivers EGPs massive 20GB sample footprint in a mere 4.7GB package.

EGP is available for purchase for $299 USD.

HeadlessBuddha Samples releases Lo-Fi Wurly

HeadlessBuddha Samples has launched Lo-Fi Wurly, a virtual Wurlitzer piano instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

HeadlessBuddha Samples Lo-Fi Wurly

Few months ago, Sanches got his hands into his friend’s 200A Wurlitzer to record some lines for his psychedelic rock project. That Wurly sounded so raw and full of character and soul to his ears that he decided to keep some samples for him. He used two sets of gear to record these samples: The first was pretty lo-fi-ish and gritty; the second was more of a warm and semi-clean recording.

Lo-Fi Wurly features

  • 1 Kontakt instrument.
  • 4 Velocity layers.
  • A custom GUI with 4 effects (distortion, phaser, delay and convolution reverb).
  • 550 MB of 44.1kHz/16 bit .wav format samples.
  • All recorded on an old cassette tape recorder.
  • A set of 17 custom impulse responses.
  • Custom vibrato script controlled via Mod-wheel.

The sample library is available to purchase for $16 USD.

Arturia intros VOX Continental-V virtual organ instrument

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 12, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Arturia has introduced VOX Continental-V, a virtual instrument emulation of the vintage Vox Continental 300 organ.

Arturia VOX Continental-V

As a high-end software recreation of the Sixties-vintage Vox Continental 300 transistor-based combo organ, VOX Continental-V is the latest addition to Arturia’s acclaimed Analog Classics lineup where it sits alongside an authentic recreation of another archetypal Sixties staple, Wurlitzer-V (based on the classic ‘Wurly’ electric piano).

Like the transcontinental history of the original Vox Continental, the road to creating VOX Continental-V was a long and winding affair. Arturia started its latest software developmental journey in the company of a rare Vox Continental 300 dual-manual model, capturing every nuance of the original right down to key contact timing and background noises — no elbows needed! Next, Arturia acquired a rare Jennings J70 — developer Tom Jennings’ Vox organ forerunner — and added a J70 Mode to the VOX Continental-V voice engine. End users have effectively ended up with two ultra-rare organs for the price of one as a result — with more tones to play with, which musically is a good thing to have!

The end result is surely the most authentic dual-manual Vox Continental 300 emulation that money can buy. Notable VOX Continental-V features include upper manual, lower manual, and bass pedal sections; multiple output effects processors; and independent channels per manual. Moreover, Expanded Mode adds a full compliment of drawbars for each harmonic; a new waveform drawbar on each section; several popular effects; Leslie™ and guitar amp simulator outputs; and an expanded percussion section. Similarly, Services Mode allows for individual tuning of each pitch — just like an original Vox; alterable key contact timing (to simulate older key contacts); and authentic background noise bleed control.

VOX Continental-V for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX/Standalone) will be available in late April, priced at 119 EUR / $129 USD.
