Universal Audio releases Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection + UAD Software v7.7

Related: , , , , Posted in news on May 09, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Universal Audio has announced the release of the Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection for its UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform and Apollo audio interfaces.

Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection

The Neve 1073 channel amplifier is easily the most revered preamp and EQ circuit ever designed. Introduced in 1970, this hallowed class-A, transistor mic/line amp with EQ epitomizes the beautiful “Neve sound,” with unparalleled clarity, sheen, and bite.

In 2006, Universal Audio released the legacy Neve 1073 and 1073SE plug-ins, which quickly became a staple for in-the-box mixing and mastering engineers worldwide. Today, UA’s team of engineers have improved upon the original and incorporated — for the first time ever — all 10 clipping points from the preamp and EQ circuitry, as well as Unison™ technology integration with the award-winning Apollo and Apollo Twin audio interfaces. The result is the all-new Neve 1073 plug-in — a true end-to-end circuit emulation of the original Neve 1073 channel amplifier that delivers its trademark grit and harmonically rich class-A saturation.

In addition, the all-new Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ plug-in features presets from famous Neve 1073 users, including Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, U2), Ed Cherney (Bonnie Raitt, The Rolling Stones), Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Norah Jones), Joel Hamilton (Pretty Lights, Sparklehorse), Dave Isaac (Prince, Marcus Miller), Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Avett Brothers), and more.

“The new Neve 1073 plug-in is one of our most ambitious projects to date,” says Universal Audio CEO Bill Putnam Jr. “We are proud to bring such an exacting emulation of this legendary piece of hardware to the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform.”

The collection is available for purchase for $299 USD ($149 USD for owners of the legacy Neve 1073/1073SE Classic Console EQ Plug-Ins). It includes the legacy Neve 1073 and 1073SE “DSP light” plug-ins and is part of the new UAD Software v7.7.

Changes in UAD Software v7.7

  • Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection – Featuring UA’s groundbreaking Unison™ technology, the all-new Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Plug-In Collection for Apollo and UAD-2 provides all the features, unique circuit behaviors, and sonics of Neve’s original hardware design. The Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection is available from the UA Online Store for $299 ($149 for owners of the legacy Neve 1073 / 1073SE Classic Console EQ Plug-Ins).
  • AAX 64 Windows 7 Support for Pro Tools 11 – Now Windows 7 Pro Tools users can benefit from AAX 64 features such as offline bounce, AudioSuite processing for file-based workflows, and multi-mono plug-in support. UA will continue to support RTAS Windows versions of UAD plug-ins for Pro Tools 10 users.
  • Mac Thunderbolt PCIe Audio Driver Support – New ultra-fast PCIe audio drivers are here for Apollo and Apollo 16, providing high-bandwidth, low-latency performance on all Thunderbolt-equipped Macs. This update works with existing Thunderbolt Option cards via a free firmware update.
  • Expanded Compatibility for Apollo Twin and UAD Devices – With the included free firmware update, Apollo Twin users can add even more UAD plug-in processing power by chaining a UAD-2 Satellite (via Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter) or UAD-2 PCIe card (via a supported Thunderbolt Chassis) to their system.
  • Console Input Labeling (“Scribble Strips”) – This update enables Apollo Console users to rename all channels in the Console application. The names are stored globally and won’t be erased when opening and closing new sessions.

The new UAD Software v7.7 is now available to download.

TDR VOS SlickEQ updated to v1.0.1

Tokyo Dawn Records and Variety of Sound have released version 1.0.1 of SlickEQ, a free mixing/mastering equalizer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

SlickEQ

Three (and a half) filter-bands arranged in a classic Low/Mid/High semi-parametric layout offer fast and intuitive access to four distinct EQ modes, each representing a set of distinct EQ curves and behaviors. An elaborate auto gain option automatically compensates for changes of perceived loudness during EQ operation. Optionally, SlickEQ allows to exclusively process either the stereo sum or stereo difference (i.e. “stereo width”) without additional sum/difference encoding.

Changes in SlickEQ v1.0.1

  • New AAX Editions (experimental, Win32 AAX is not functional)
  • Performance optimizations (+30% in some cases)
  • Value-displays now accept “,” as decimal separator (in addition to “.”)
  • Fixed rare denormal issues.
  • User presets slots increased to 10.
  • On a Mac, short-cut labels show “Cmd” instead of “Ctrl”.
  • Preset code now uses the Plugin-name as root tag (the old format is still supported)
  • Show parameter units in GUI-less mode.
  • Fix in mac install script bug which prevented the creation of user presets.

The plugin is available as freeware for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX).

IK Multimedia releases EQ 73 & EQ 81 models in T-RackS CS 4.6

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on Apr 18, 2014 - comment 0 comments

IK Multimedia has announced version 4.6 of T-RackS CS (Custom Shop), featuring the EQ 73 and the EQ 81, two new must-have British EQ models that provide the warmth and tone heard on countless recordings around the globe.

T-RackS CS EQ 73 / EQ 81

EQ 73

The new T-RackS EQ 73 model is based upon a classic British hardware unit that is universally acknowledged as the most used preamp in music recording history. The original “class A” device has a sonic signature almost instantly recognizable to engineers and recording enthusiasts the world over. Thanks to its unique and innovative circuitry the signal passing through it becomes thick and bold making every instrument stand out with audible fullness. The T-Racks EQ 73 model captures this nuance so that even in the DAW environment the tone stays intact.

The EQ 73 is an extraordinary EQ, and our engineers went the extra mile to make sure the part of the preamp circuitry functionality was captured as well — a feature no other emulation on the market has included. The interaction between the preamp and the EQ section is what makes this legendary EQ so desirable. The gain range is so wide that many color shades can be found. At lower settings it adds some harmonic coloration that will make kicks or snare fatter and punchier. Going up the gain hill moves it into downright distortion with an analog saturation rarely found in DAW plug ins. This is a killer function that adds that elusive “analog” character to a sterile sounding track, or provides a new creative effect.

EQ 81

Following in the footsteps of its older sibling, the EQ 81 takes the word versatility even further; the EQ section is composed of 4 independent frequency bands, rounded out by high and low pass filters to eliminate unwanted frequencies from the signal. This EQ powerhouse is at home in practically any mixing work where there is the need to sculpt the tone of a track with precision and musicality. Plus, adding to the versatility is the ability of the high and low shelving bands to become peaking type if needed.

As with the EQ 73 model, IK Engineers made sure the preamp circuitry modeling was ultra-accurate and usable. It’s class A/B circuit design delivers another range of tonal coloration, and while the EQ section is so accurately modeled in the EQ 81, its interaction with the preamp stage is what really sets the module apart providing identical sonic hardware performance not found in other digital models. Countless hours were spent not only in making sure the EQ curves are dead-on accurate, but that the preamp response and overall module interaction was faithful to the original hardware unit.

Both the EQ 73 and the EQ 81 models have the dual concentric knobs found on the original units “separated” for easier and faster shaping, and the unit offers improved readability of the knob positions for quick adjustment.

The T-RackS Model EQ 73 and Model EQ 81 are available for the introductory price of $124.99 USD / 99.99 EUR (excl. VAT) or 125 Custom Shop Credits.

Kuassa releases EVE-AT1 & EVE-AT4 Rack Extensions for Reason

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Apr 11, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Kuassa has announced the release of EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 classic british equalizers, two new Rack Extension plug-ins for Propellerhead Reason 6.5 and later.

Offered at $39 $29 (Anniversary Sale, 25% discount still applies until April 21st) each, both AT1 and AT4 were inspired by the design of the legendary Neve* 1081 and 1084 that are known for their clear, smooth, and very musical characteristics.

We are thrilled by the sound and present these EQs as a modern tribute, designed with simplicity and clarity in mind for immediate productivity. Although they share certain tonal characteristics, the EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 reveal their differences in the details.

Kuassa EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4

EVE-AT1/AT4 features

  • EVE-AT1: is a 4-band parametric equalizer with an additional high-pass and low-pass filter. Inspired by the EQ section of a renowned British Classic –the Neve* 1081 –this equalizer delivers a clear, smooth, and musical sound to shape your tracks. The EVE-AT1 posseses an additional parametric band with expanded Q bandwidth selection in the low-mid and high-mid frequency ranges as compared to the EVE-AT4. In addition, the AT1 impelements a different high-pass and low-pass filter, giving the AT1 a slightly more conventional frequency response in these areas. These characteristics mean the EVE-AT1 is suitable for a broad range of musical applications, offering flexibility, versatility and all-round utility.
  • EVE-AT4: EVE-AT4 is a 3-band equalizer with an additional high-pass and low-pass filter. Designed as a tribute to the EQ section of the Neve* 1084, which was created as the successor to the legendary Neve* 1073. Although the EVE-AT4 possesses fewer bands, a smaller frequency selection palette, and less Q bandwidth selection options as compared to the EVE-AT1, its strength lies in its unique filter implementation, producing an idiosyncratic frequency response not present on the EVE-AT1. The result is a particular tonal character; the sound and tonal shape of its original incarnation is a hallmark of many classic recordings from the 70s.

The EVE-AT series Rack Extensions are available from the Propellerhead shop.
