Ilya Efimov has released Chinese Hulusi, a new virtual ethnic folk instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.
The hulusi or cucurbit flute is a free-reed wind instrument from China. It is held vertically and has three bamboo pipes which pass through a gourd wind chest; the center pipe has finger holes and the outer two are typically drone pipes. It is not uncommon for a hulusi to have only one drone pipe while the second outer pipe is merely ornamental. The drone pipe has a finger hole, which allows it to be stopped.
The Hulusi library can allow a user to imitate virtually anything that a real hulusi could play. Ii8intervals were recorded for up and down legato articulations in two variants: normal legato and glissando. We have provided the ability to vary the dynamics of the instrument to convey a wide, detailed range of expression from pp to ff. Natural vibrato may be added to the sound at any time. Staccato articulations provide added realism by means of a round-robin algorythm.
Chinese Hulusi features

Sonokinetic has announced the release of Güzin, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt featuring female Turkish vocal performances.
We have worked with Miss Güzin Degismez before, in our very first vocal library ‘Tigris and Euphrates’ and have been in contact with her about doing another project ever since.
As no other, Ms Degismez knows how to blend the traditional music of her culture into cinematic atmospheres that instantly invoke emotion and lively imagery. For this project, we recorded all new material, based on ‘moods’ and, in contrast to Tigris and Euphrates, these are all tempo synced and we’ve recorded all material in two tempi, to be able to employ our ITM tempo mapping system, making sure the recordings will always stay within acceptable stretch ranges. Of course, you can turn off ITM if you’re looking for that overstretched sound as an effect.
All is recorded in Istanbul by our trusted producer Ceyda Pirali, who played live percussion during the recording session to accompany the mood and set the stage for Güzin to perform freely and without the robotic constriction of a clicktrack, while still providing us with tempo sync-able material.
Kontakt 4 & Kontakt 5 patch spanning 6 different moods, each in two recorded tempi.
Automatic BPM group selecting (HOST slave).
Tempo synced by time machine.
Use of Sonokinetic Intelligent Time Machine functionality.

Sonokinetic has announced the release of Qanun, a multi-sampled and performance sampled Qanun instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.
This instrument complements our other Arabic instruments such as Ney and Kemence to build an ethnic ensemble. The Qanun has been played for centuries and feels right at home in our collection of deep sampled ethnic instruments and vocals.
The Qanun (also known as Qanoun and Kanun) is a dulcimer or zither-like instrument of 81 strings stretched over a frame and plucked with the fingers or picks. Its distinctive tone comes from the grouping of strings and levers which create the scales.
Our Qanun was recorded in Istanbul by our long-standing friend, expert engineer and composer Ceyda Pirali in high fidelity audio quality. The player is the renowned performer Gunay Celik who learnt his craft at the State Turkish Music Conservatory. He studied the playing styles and techniques for many years before becoming a master in 1992. He taught Qanun at university level and has played with the İstanbul University Ensemble and Ayangil Turkish Music Orchestra. His credits also include many performances with Turkish radio and television. Currently, Gunay is working at the State of Turkish Classical Music Ensemble. He has kindly agreed to allow us to capture his unique playing style with traditional songs and hundreds of improvisations.
For the multisampled playable instrument we have captured multiple round robins and velocity layers so that you can play the instrument chromatically. For the improvisations and songs, Sonokinetic Qanun features tempo-synced performances in root keys. These samples are wrapped in an intuitive interface which makes playing this instrument a pleasure. In addition, the convolution reverb creates an unparalleled ambience, evoking the spirit of Arabia.
