Goldbaby Productions The Fat H3500

Goldbaby Productions has released The Fat H3500, a free sample library for Kontakt and EXS24.

I just purchased an Eventide H3500. This effects unit is simply amazing! I can see why it has gained legendary status. What I didn’t know… until I got one, was that it could actually generate its own sound. Plug in a midi cable and you can play it! The sound is produced by using short delays with feedback to create resonators which give a sound similar to a resonating string.

I have sampled two patches from the H3500 through the UBK Fatso. It was necessary to do 4 round robin layers for each note sampled as the sound changes each time you hit a note. So the result is kind of organic, albeit in a electronic way…

Goldbaby has also released a free sample pack featuring the Juno-6 and UBK Fatso: The FatJuno-6 Drums and FX.

Both samples packs are available to download at no cost: The Fat H3500 / The FatJuno-6 Drums and FX

Empty Room Systems releases EMpTy 250

Empty Room Systems EMpTy 250

Empty Room Systems has released EMpTy 250, a software reverb effect plug-in for Windows.

After months of research and tweaks this reverb, based on the first digital reverb machine (the EMT-250), is now available for purchase. The EMT-250 is known for the very sweet character of its reverb and is used on a lot of famous recordings. It is the favorite reverb for a lot of award winning engineers. Real EMT-250’s are rare and other solutions for obtaining similar results were expensive or unnecessarily complex – until now! With the release of EMpTy 250 this ear candy becomes affordable for each studio and engineer!

EMpTy 250 is not yet another reverb plugin. The character of its sound is unique and sets it apart from other reverb plugins or dedicated hardware reverbs. EMpTy 250 is now available as a VST plugin and is also available as a patch for the Eventide® H8000 and H7500. The plugin can be used in any DAW software supporting Steinberg®’s VST-format, like for example Nuendo, Cubase, Adobe Audition, Reaper, VSThost etc. and does not need any internal DSP card, external box or dongle or special drivers to function. A demo version, which is fully functional and looks identical to the full version, but inserts noise into the output signal every 15 seconds, is available for evaluation of the reverb. A 5.1 version has also been planned.

EMpTy 250 is available as a VST effect plug-in for Windows PC (and as a patch for the Eventide H8000 & H7500), currently priced at 149 EUR until 31 December, 2009.

Review: ToneBuilder Driven Machine Drums

ToneBuilder Driven Machine Drums

When I first visited the Driven Machine Drums website I thought I had found another one of those silly marketing schemes. You know those sites that promise loads of “fresh” content for cheap, meaning to say they’ll send you a disc with stuff that is old and readily available to download from the internet, free of cost…

Just reading the first few paragraphs on the website immediately triggered my scam alert.

Have you purchased hundreds; even thousands of drum sounds… only finding a handful of gems among the clutter? Are you often irritated when sifting through countless sounds, devastating your creative flow? Do you fight with samples to make them tight, slamming, and club ready… only later to be disappointed in the results? Have you fantasized about the multi-million dollar deal or winning the lottery so you can stack your studio with all the esoteric highend gear? Does your music command you have the latest kit, to gain the advantage and stand apart from the masses?

If you answered “YES!” to any of these questions, then you are in the right place and the right time.

The website even mentions a 30-day no questions asked refund, and then there’s the odd “only 997 copies will ever be available” thing.

The whole thing looked pretty dodgy to me, but my gut feeling was wrong.

The guy behind ToneBuilder and Driven Machine Drums is Nathaniel Shreve, an electronic musician who is passionate about his work. He wanted to make sure to share some interesting things about how the library came to be, and why he feels Driven Machine Drums is different from other drum sample libraries.

Now whether or not you enjoy Nathaniel’s style of writing, the bottom line is: this product is legit and well worth checking out.

Mini-Review: Loopmasters Wave Alchemy SFX Collection 01

Loopmasters Wave Alchemy - SFX Collection 01

Loopmasters recently released SFX Collection 01, a sample library featuring over 1.5 GB of sound effects by Wave Alchemy.

After reading some of the comments on this release I figured I’d give it a spin.

Now I kind of promised myself to stop posting reviews of products that I don’t have all that much to say about (since those end up containing mostly info that is already available from the product page), but I liked this library so much I figured I’d just post a mini-review.

What do you get?

In short, SFX Collection 01 offers over 1.5 GB of 24-bit sound effects, created using the “finest of vintage and new age electronic equipment” (check the kit list on the product page for details).

Wave Alchemy divided the effects into 8 categories: cymbal fx, downlifters, impacts, short fx & hits, stabs & acid hits, sweeps & drones, textures, and uplifters.
