FabFilter updates Saturn to v1.01 (incl. solo/mute options)

FabFilter Saturn

FabFilter has updated the Saturn multi-band distortion and saturation plug-in for Windows and Mac to version 1.01, introducing flexible per-band solo and mute options along with various minor bug fixes.

Distortion and saturation play a very important role in music production. From subtle, clean and warm tube or tape saturation to the wildest multi-band guitar amp effects: FabFilter Saturn delivers!

Changes in FabFilter Saturn v1.01

  • Added solo/mute buttons to the interactive band display that let you easily listen to specific bands only. Click a solo or mute button to toggle solo or mute mode. Alternatively, hold down a button to solo or mute temporarily while the mouse is down. Ctrl-click (Windows) or Cmd-click (Mac) a button to solo or mute the band exclusively.
  • Fixed incorrect interpretation of parameter values that are typed in the host (e.g. for automation points) in the VST 2 and VST 3 plug-ins.
  • Fixed a bug in the VST 2 plug-in that could cause automation of band crossovers to work incorrectly after inserting a new band.
  • Fixed a couple of errors in the help file.

Saturn for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/AudioSuite) is available to purchase for 129 EUR / $174 USD / £114 GBP. The update is free for existing Saturn users.

FabFilter releases Saturn multi-band distortion & saturation effect

FabFilter has announced the release of Saturn, a multi-band distortion and saturation effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

A great variety of distortion styles from subtle tape simulation to full-on multi-band guitar amp mayhem, combined with endless modulation options and a streamlined, uncluttered interface promise FabFilter Saturn a place among the stars.

FabFilter Saturn

FabFilter Saturn offers a wide range of high-quality distortion models from subtle, clean and warm tube or tape saturation to fully overdriven vintage guitar amp simulation. Additional creative distortion styles let you time-smear, stretch, crush, rectify and lip your sounds in inspiring and unexpected ways. Create up to six bands with individual feedback, compression/expansion and tone controls to give each part of the spectrum the warmth and color it needs.

To bring even more life and depth to your sound, engage FabFilter Saturn’s extensive modulation section. By applying subtle modulation to crossover frequencies, dynamics, band levels or tone controls, you can add unique definition and flavor. With practically unlimited modulation sources from XY controllers and programmable step sequencers to any type of MIDI data, the creative possibilities are endless.

The clever user interface makes FabFilter Saturn look deceptively simple, showing only the controls that you are actually using at the moment. The entire modulation section is hidden by default, resulting in a friendly interface that invites you to explore the essential controls and the included factory presets. When you need to look “under the hood”, a single click expands the modulation section, letting you easily add modulation sources and create modulation connections via drag-and-drop. This combination of features makes FabFilter Saturn powerful and flexible, yet ultimately accessible for everyday use.

Saturn features

  • Sixteen different distortion styles, from subtle tube and tape saturation to heavily overdriven guitar amp models, time-smearing and bit crushing.
  • Multi-band processing (up to six bands).
  • Per-band drive, mix, feedback, dynamics, tone and level controls.
  • Optional HQ mode (8x oversampling).
  • Mid/side processing.
  • Interactive multi-band display.
  • Easy-to-use interface with FabFilter’s innovative what-you-use-is-what-you-see concept.
  • Normal and wide interface layouts, with an option to show or hide the modulation section at the bottom.
  • Endless modulation options, with all the 16-step XLFOs, XY controllers, envelope generators, envelope followers and MIDI sources you will ever need.
  • Easy drag-and-drop modulation with 50-slot modulation matrix.
  • Modulation source signal visualization.
  • Over 150 factory presets included.
  • Stereo and mono plug-ins available.
  • All the usual FabFilter features you’ve come to expect: perfectly fine-tuned knobs and controllers, interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switch, Smart Parameter Interpolation for smooth parameter transitions, an extensive help file with interactive help hints, sample accurate automation, SSE optimization, and more.

FabFilter Saturn for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/AudioSuite) is now available to purchase for 129 EUR / $174 USD / £114 GBP. Bundles with FabFilter Saturn and other FabFilter plug-ins are also available. Existing FabFilter customers can purchase Saturn with great discounts by logging in to their online user account.

WaveMachine Labs introduces Auria multi-track recording app for iPad 2

WaveMachine Labs has introduced Auria, a new multi-track recording software for iPad 2.

With the ability to play 48 mono or stereo 24bit/44.1 kHz tracks simultaneously, record up to 24 of those tracks simultaneously (through any supported USB multichannel audio interface), and edit and mix with familiar tools and full parameter automation, it’s clear Auria sets a new standard for iPad multitracking.

WaveMachine Labs Auria

What’s more, Auria’s 64-bit Double Precision architecture ensures ample headroom for plug-in processing and mix summing, transforming your iPad into a recording and mixing system with sound quality that rivals most DAWs.

The depth is in the details. Like customizable pan laws. Like meters that are selectable between VU and RMS. Like full delay compensation for all tracks, including aux sends and subgroups. Complete with a vintage-inspired channel strip on every channel, a dedicated master channel strip, VST plug-ins engineered by renowned makers such as PSPaudioware, Overloud, Fab Filter and Drumagog, and support for Dropbox, Soundcloud, AAF, and MP3, Auria truly raises the bar for recording and mixing on the iPad.

Auria features

  • Up to 48 tracks of simultaneous playback.
  • Record up to 24 tracks at once.
  • VST plugin support (iOS format only).
  • AAF Import and Export.
  • Fully featured multitrack editor.
  • Includes optional plugins from PSPaudioware, Fabfilter, and more.

WaveMachine Labs is demonstrating Auria at the Winter NAMM, Booth 6905. The app will be available in the 1st quarter of 2012.

FabFilter updates all plug-ins incl. AAX support

FabFilter AAX suppor

FabFilter has released updates for all FabFilter plug-ins, introducing support for the new AAX plug-in format in Pro Tools 10.

The FabFilter Pro-L limiter now offers a new ‘Compact’ view, and the FabFilter Pro-Q EQ plug-in features spectrum analyzer and solo mode improvements. Furthermore, all FabFilter Pro plug-ins now support the most common Pro Tools hardware control surfaces. The updates are now available on all platforms: Windows and Mac OS X, 32-bit and 64-bit.

New features and bug fixes in FabFilter Pro-Q

  • Improved the real-time spectrum analyzer: it is now more responsive and has a smoother curve release, making it easier to visually follow the curves over time. In addition, the combined Pre+Post setting now compensates the plug-in latency correctly in Linear Phase mode.
  • Improved Solo mode to transparently limit its output volume to -6 dB, avoiding undesired volume spikes at all times.
  • Fixed bug that caused an artificial roll-off to 0 Hz in the real-time spectrum analyzer.
  • Fixed bug when dragging multiple bands in the EQ display that could cause small round-off errors in the frequency parameter values relative to each other.
  • Fixed bug that caused Solo mode to function incorrectly on per-channel bands as soon as you changed the frequency of the band while in Solo mode.

New features in FabFilter Pro-L

  • Added new Compact interface layout, which hides the animated level display. Instead, larger level meters and all advanced controls including a large Output knob are shown. To switch between interface layouts, click the resize button in the bottom-right corner of the interface.

Other new features and bug fixes

  • All FabFilter plug-ins: Added support for the new AAX plug-in format for Pro Tools 10. The AAX plug-in is 100% compatible with the RTAS plug-in: Pro Tools 10 will automatically use our new AAX plug-ins instead of the existing RTAS plug-ins when loading existing sessions.
  • All FabFilter plug-ins: Improved keyboard handling on Windows, fixing the “space key stealing” problem in Studio One and FL Studio.
  • All FabFilter plug-ins: Improved mouse handling behavior in Pro Tools when Cmd+Ctrl / Ctrl+Win – clicking a control to show the automation timeline.
  • FabFilter Pro-Q, Pro-L, Pro-C and Pro-G: Added support for the most important Pro Tools hardware control surfaces, such as Avid ICON D-Control and D-Command. In FabFilter Pro-Q, we have added a new Flat 7 Bands factory preset that can be used as your personal default preset in combination with a control surface.
  • FabFilter Pro-G and Pro-C: It is now possible to double-click the low-pass and high-pass sidechain filtering buttons to enter parameter values directly.
  • FabFilter Pro-Q, Timeless 2, Twin 2, Volcano 2 and Simplon: In the AU and VST3 plug-in formats, parameters are now grouped where possible to make automation easier to overview in the host.
  • FabFilter Timeless 2: Fixed a bug that caused incorrect side-chain handling in the mono-to-stereo RTAS version of the plug-in.
  • FabFilter Timeless 2: Fixed bug that caused the Dry Enabled parameter always to be re-enabled when loading a version 1 preset, such as Dubby 05 bM in the Best Of folder.

The updates are free for existing FabFilter customers. Updates and 30-day trial versions can be downloaded from FabFilter.

FabFilter

FabFilter has announced full support for Avid’s new AAX plug-in format, introduced in Pro Tools 10.

AAX versions of all plug-ins (FabFilter Pro-L, Pro-Q, Pro-G, Pro-C, Volcano 2, Twin 2, Timeless 2, One, Simplon and Micro) will be made available in November 2011. Of course, these updates will be free for existing FabFilter users.

Frederik Slijkerman, co-owner of FabFilter Software Instruments: “We always try to adapt to new standards and formats as soon as possible, because we know how important this is for our users. That’s why we’ve
also put serious effort into supporting 64-bit hosts and the VST3 format in the past. During the last months before the Pro Tools 10 release, we’ve worked closely together with Avid to be able to support the new AAX format right away, and we’re very happy to announce this now!”.

In the future, the new AAX format will replace Avid’s existing RTAS plug-in format. For now, both AAX and RTAS plug-ins can be used together in Pro Tools 10. The AAX and RTAS versions of all FabFilter plug-ins will be fully compatible with each other.

All FabFilter plug-ins support Windows and Mac OS X in 64-bit and 32-bit, VST and VST 3, Audio Units, RTAS and AudioSuite plug-in formats, with AAX support coming in November 2011.
