FabFilter Pro-G

FabFilter has updated the Pro-G gate/expander plug-in to version 1.01, adding a much requested ‘ducking’ style and various bug fixes and small improvements.

Originally released in May 2011, FabFilter Pro-G is a top-quality gate/expander plug-in with flexible side chain routing options and a streamlined, well-designed user interface. Equipped with linear-phase oversampling, mid/side processing and precise metering, Pro-G is an indispensable addition to any mixing and mastering tool kit.

Changes in Pro-G v1.01

  • Added new ‘Ducking’ style, implementing inverted gate/expander behavior. A typical application of ducking is to automatically lower the level of a musical background track when a voice-over starts, and to bring the level up again when the voice-over stops (in movies and on radio broadcasts). Ducking can also be used to achieve the well-known and very popular ‘pumping’ effect, much used in modern dance music.
  • Improved keyboard handling on Windows, fixing the “space key stealing” problem in Studio One and FL Studio.
  • Improved mouse handling behavior in Pro Tools when Cmd+Ctrl / Ctrl+Win -clicking a control to show the automation timeline.
  • Fixed crash in MOTU Digital Performer with the mono version of Pro-G.

FabFilter Pro-G for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS) is available to purchase for 129 EUR / $174 USD / 114 GBP. The FabFilter Pro-G 1.01 update is available now.

FabFilter releases Pro-G gate/expander plug-in

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on May 09, 2011 - comment 0 comments

FabFilter has announced the release of Pro-G, a gate/expander effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Following the very well-received Pro-L limiter, Pro-Q equalizer and Pro-C compressor plug-ins, FabFilter now introduces FabFilter Pro-G: a top-quality gate/expander plug-in with flexible side chain routing options and a streamlined, well-designed user interface. Equipped with linear-phase oversampling, mid/side processing and precise metering, Pro-G is an indispensable addition to the FabFilter tool kit.

FabFilter Pro-G

FabFilter Pro-G offers five meticulously fine-tuned algorithms, including classic analog models and upward expansion, as well as specific designs for vocal and guitar processing. In combination with the adjustable threshold, ratio, range settings and attack, release, hold and look-ahead times, Pro-G will process your drum and vocal tracks smoothly and with character. At the same time, Pro-G is also the perfect tool to subtly and precisely restore lost dynamics while mastering.

As you would expect, the well-thought-out interface has been crafted with much attention to detail. FabFilter Pro-G’s prominent real-time level display and accurate meters smartly combine input, output and gain reduction levels, giving you immediate insight in the plug-in’s dynamic behavior. Together with the transfer curve and threshold level feedback, choosing the right settings at the right time couldn’t be easier.

A click on the Expert button will resize the interface to make space for additional external side-chain input and side-chain filtering controls. The expert panel contains wet/dry level and panning controls, and allows the side-chain path and linking to be set up in any way imaginable. The interface conveniently adapts its size to reveal the expert controls only when needed, making it just as easy to use FabFilter Pro-G as a straightforward gate, or as a full-featured creative expander.

Pro-G features

  • Five perfectly fine-tuned expander/gate algorithms: Classic, Clean, Vocal, Guitar and an upward expansion style.
  • Beautifully program-dependent attack and release curves.
  • Precise and helpful metering, including a real-time level display.
  • Low CPU usage.
  • Adjustable range, hold time and knee settings.
  • Optional look-ahead time up to 10 ms.
  • Expert mode that offers highly customizable side chain and level options, conveniently hidden in normal mode.
  • Mono, stereo or mid/side processing.
  • Up to four times linear-phase oversampling.
  • Zero-latency operation mode.
  • External side chain option.
  • MIDI triggering: open the gate/expander with your MIDI keyboard.
  • Separate dry/wet level settings.
  • Easy to set up for common gating/expansion situations with the included factory presets.
  • Stereo and mono plug-ins available.
  • All the usual FabFilter quality you’ve come to expect: perfectly fine-tuned knobs and controllers, interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switch, Smart Parameter Interpolation for smooth parameter transitions, an extensive help file with interactive help hints, sample accurate automation, SSE optimization, and more.

Pro-G for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AudioSuite) is available to purchase for 129 EUR / $174 USD / £114 GBP. Bundles with FabFilter Pro-G and other FabFilter plug-ins are also available. FabFilter releases bug-fix update for Pro-Q and Pro-L

FabFilter

FabFilter has released updated versions of the Pro-Q EQ plug-in and the Pro-L limiter plug-in, fixing a bug introduced in the general updates released a week earlier.

In some cases in certain hosts, after bypassing and re-enabling FabFilter Pro-Q or Pro-L via the bypass button provided by the host, the plug-ins could remain in the bypassed state. This problem has now been fixed in the latest versions.

The updated plug-ins are fully compatible with previous versions, free for existing FabFilter customers, and now available on all formats and platforms: VST/VST 3, AU, RTAS/AS, Windows and Mac OS X, 32-bit and 64-bit. Updates and 30-day trial versions can be downloaded from www.fabfilter.com/download.

FabFilter releases updates for all plug-ins, new Pro-Q features

FabFilter

FabFilter has released updates for all plug-ins, adding great new features to the Pro-Q EQ plug-in and the Timeless 2 delay plug-in, next to general improvements and bug fixes.

New in FabFilter Pro-Q are an intelligent solo mode, a notch filter type and spectrum analyzer improvements, while FabFilter Timeless 2 has got a new wide interface layout option. Finally, all effect plug-ins now support the Pro Tools AudioSuite format, in addition to RTAS.

  • Changes in Pro-Q v1.1:
    • Added a notch filter type to cut very narrow bands in the frequency spectrum. Double-clicking in the bottom of the EQ display creates a notch band immediately.
    • Added an intelligent solo mode for EQ bands. Click and hold the solo button (in the parameter value display) to enter solo mode for the current EQ band. Now, you don’t hear the effect of the EQ band itself, but instead you will hear the part of the frequency spectrum that is being affected by that band. Of course, the frequency range depends on the frequency and Q settings, and is visualized in the display as well.
    • Improved the built-in spectrum analyzer with smoother curves, a combined Pre+Post mode and customizable resolution and speed settings, accessible via the Analyzer drop-down menu in the bottom bar of the plug-in.
    • Added a 3 dB display range, useful for mastering purposes.
    • Added a small output level and clipping indicator in the bottom bar.
    • Improved the EQ display’s rollover behavior: the parameter value display is now shown much earlier when you approach an EQ curve point, making it easier to view the band’s settings and use the new solo button.
    • Fixed possible audible “plops” when selecting a different filter shape in an EQ band.
    • Fixed bug when Shift-dragging multiple selected points: this could accidentally deselect some of the points.
  • Changes in Timeless 2 v2.10:
    • Added a new “wide” layout for the interface that eliminates scrolling in the component display in the top half of the plug-in. The resize button in the lower-right corner of the interface chooses between normal and wide layouts.
    • You can now change the default value of the Dry Enabled parameter, simply by clicking Options > Save As Default in the presets menu. This is useful for example if you always happen to use Timeless 2 as a send effect.
  • Other new features and bug fixes:
    • In addition to the RTAS format, all effect plug-ins are now also available in the AudioSuite format for Pro Tools.
    • All plug-ins are now Unicode-aware and correctly handle international characters on both Windows and Mac OS X, for example in preset folders and file names.
    • Improved the way parameter values with custom ranges and transforms are shown by Audio Unit hosts and Pro Tools (e.g. for automation purposes).
    • Added a Deauthorize option to the plug-in’s Help menu, which makes it easy to delete your license key from a computer if needed.
    • In Twin 2 and Timeless 2: fixed bug that could cause the XLFO to run out of sync after a while.
    • In Twin 2 and Timeless 2: fixed bug that caused the XLFO Phase Offset parameter to work incorrectly in combination with random steps. Also improved sonic behavior when dragging the phase offset across its “circular” boundary.
    • In Twin 2 and Timeless 2: Improved mouse wheel scrolling and editing behavior.
    • In Pro-C and Pro-L: It’s now possible to enter positive values in the parameter value display for knobs with a negative-only range (like Threshold or Output Level). So for example, typing “0.3″ will also result in “-0.3 dB”.
    • Fixed incorrect redrawing in the plug-in interface that could occur in some cases in Pro Tools on Mac, for example when selecting from the Pro Tools-provided presets menu in the plug-in header.
    • Fixed bug that caused the help file to open only in the first instance of the plug-in.

The updated plug-ins are fully compatible with previous versions, free for existing FabFilter customers, and now available on all formats and platforms.
