Waves Vocal Rider

Waves has announced the release of Vocal Rider, an automatic level-riding plug-in.

Vocal Rider is the first of Waves pioneering new series of Mix tools. Simply put, Vocal Rider rides the levels of vocal tracks, automatically.

Instead of manually riding the physical mixing console fader, or tediously drawing in each individual level change on a DAW track, Vocal Rider does it for you, making it a true timesaver.

All you need to do is set the target range of the vocal level in relation to the rest of the mix. Then, Vocal Rider compensates for all deviations from the target, intelligently raising or lowering the vocal volume, instantly. And unlike everyday compression, Vocal Rider adds absolutely no additional coloring to the track.

Vocal Rider features

  • Keep steady vocal & dialog levels automatically.
  • Save time by automating the vocal riding part of the mixing process.
  • Write the automatic riding to an automation track for fine tuning.
  • Real-Time means no latency and no pre-scan needed.
  • Up to 24bit 96kHz resolution.
  • Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU.
  • PC and Mac compatible.

Vocal Rider is available in native and TDM formats for $400 and $520 USD.

Waves has also announced Waves Version 7, an update to the Waves plug-in range.

Waves Version 7 represents the latest step in the evolution of Waves. With improved compatibility across the board, enhanced DAW and OS support, and a host of new features, V7 will take your Waves experience to new heights. There’s never been a better time to update!

You can find details on what is new in Waves Version 7 here.

Waves Version 7 (including Vocal Rider) is available at no additional charge to all Waves products covered by Waves Update Plan.

Quiet Art Wave Rider

Quiet Art has released version 1.4 of Wave Rider, a virtual fader controller plugin for Digidesign Pro Tools.

Wave Rider was designed with Post Production mixing needs in mind. The algorithm is tuned to respond best to dialogue recordings: quiet parts are boosted, and loud parts are attenuated to maintain a constant level. However, you might find that it’s quite handy for a multitude of scenarios.

Changes in Wave Rider v1.4

  • Major improvements to Wave Rider’s algorithm. Now, with new low level detection, and the help of “Silence Level” and “Behaviour” sliders, you can dial in the perfect combination that will give you the most natural volume riding.
  • Improved response time. Now, Wave Rider generated automation lags only 40ms rather than 300ms, thanks to the redesign of the MIDI driver.
  • This version of Wave Rider supports iLok authorization.

Wave Rider is available for purchase for Mac OSX 10.x (RTAS) for $85 USD. A 17 day trial version is available for download.

Wave Rider features

  • Ride — In this default mode, Wave Rider’s level detecting algorithm automatically raises or lowers the fader level to maintain a user selectable output level by writing volume automation on the timeline. User can then alter the volume automation as needed. Makes maintaining dialnorm levels a breeze!
  • Duck — This function will lower the signal of a target track by a user selectable amount if there’s signal present on the inserted track. Narration and announcements over music as heard on radio channels rely on keyed compressors with poor results, now cooler with Wave Rider.
  • Park — This is a function you’ll find in Automatic Mixer boxes. The faders are parked at a user defined low level when there’s little signal, and they jump up to full output when there’s strong signal present, maintaining a steady output level. Particularly useful in situations where there’s a lot of mics open and you want to have the cleanest signal without much background noise.

Wave Rider is available for Mac OSX for the introductory price of $75 USD. A fully functional 30-day trial version of Wave Rider is available for download here.
