Focusrite announces RedNet D16 AES – 16-channel AES3 I/O for Dante audio networks

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Feb 07, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Focusrite has announced RedNet D16 AES, a 1U 19in rack-mount interface featuring 16 channels of AES/EBU connectivity to and from a Dante audio network, with Ethernet redundancy for maximum network reliability.

Focusrite RedNet D16 AES

Perfect for bridging between digital consoles, power amplifiers or any other AES3 equipped audio equipment and a Dante network, RedNet D16 AES has a Sample Rate Convertor (SRC) on each input pair allowing instant operation with any AES3 source. Word Clock and Digital Audio Reference Signal (DARS) connections provides synchronisation with a wide range of hardware, while S/PDIF I/O allows the integration of equipment such as CD or solid state recorders/players.

Two DB25 connectors each provide eight channels of combined I/O to the AES59 standard, allowing speedy interconnection with other DB25-connected or XLR-based equipment by use of standard DB25 to XLR cables. The rear-panel XLR female input can be used either as a DARS sync source for the Dante system, or as an AES3 audio source replacing input channels 1–2 on the DB25 connectors. An XLR male socket provides a duplicated AES3 outlet for output channels 1–2. The RCA S/PDIF input can similarly replace input channels 3–4 of the DB25 connectors, while the S/PDIF output can replicate any adjacent odd/even pair of the 16 output channels.

The two network connectors on the rear of the unit allow two modes of operation. They can be used either as a primary/redundant network interface, allowing seamless switchover in the case of network failure, or as a daisy-chain port allowing the connection of multiple units.

All the clocking and input/output options of RedNet D16 AES are remotely-controlled by the RedNet Control software application for Mac and PC.

Focusrite RedNet will be discussing and demonstrating the full range of RedNet products at the AV Networking World event, taking place 4th February at the Amsterdam Holiday Inn during ISE.

The RedNet D16 AES has a U.S. MSRP of $1899.99 USD.

Producertech announces Live Beginner-Intermediate & Advanced Level Weekends

Producertech Live weekends

Producertech has announced the first of many live teaching events, starting in November with 2 Ableton Live weekends by certified trainer Rob Jones.

These weekends, one for Beginners and one for Advanced level users, include 2 full days of training on Ableton software and music production in general, as well as instruction on Ableton’s control surface Push, free online courses and £100 worth of samples from Loopmasters.

Located in Producertech’s new UK headquarters, the Echoplex Studio complex in Eastbourne, these events allow students the opportunity to interact directly with certified trainer and online course creator Rob Jones, while he teaches the ins and outs of Live in detail to a class of no more than 16 people. Throughout the day, there will be exercises set, which students can carry out on the provided workstations or their own laptops, along with in-depth group and one-to-one mentoring to maximize students’ experiences and learning.

The first weekend, for beginner-intermediate level users will cover all of the basics of producing with Live, right from the very start. Each area will be explained comprehensively and some more complex aspects like envelopes and modulation will be introduced, so both someone starting out and those with a little experience already are suitable attendees. The second weekend then goes deeper into mixing and sound design, looking at more technical aspects of producing and performing, to take a student’s skills to the next level, and is suitable for someone who has been using Live for some time and has a reasonable grasp on this amazing software.

Ableton’s control surface Push will also be shown, so that students can see a first-hand demonstration and have an improved understanding of how it works. There will also be some demonstrations of recent hardware releases from Producertech’s sponsors Focusrite, Novation and KRK.

Every attendee will be given an online course from Producertech – the level 1 (Beginners) course for attendees of the first weekend and the level 2 (Advanced) course for the second weekend. These courses, worth £150, mean that students can continue studying online for as long as they need after the event. Any students who are already signed up to these courses will be allowed access to other Producertech courses, such as Paul Maddox’s Tech House and Techno course, up to the same value, free of charge. Furthermore, Loopmasters are kindly supplying all students with a voucher for £100 worth of sample packs of your choosing, from their enormous library of high quality samples!
