Forgotten Keys releases FK15: (Bentley) Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-3

Forgotten Keys Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-3

Forgotten Keys has released FK15, a virtual Bentley (Ace Tone) Rhythm Ace FR-3 analogue drum machine for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Unusual for a rhythm unit of this era, the FR-3 boasts sounds that are accentuated on certain beats, mainly with the latin rhythms. This has been re-created along with all the rhythms in this virtual instrument for the full version of Kontakt.

The FK15 features isolated multi-samples of each drum sound – some at four accent levels – and re-creations of all the internal rhythm patterns. The patterns can be combined with each other just like the original. The volume, panning, tuning and mute status of each sound can be adjusted, and the MIDI input and audio output routing can be customised.

The sample library costs £4 GBP.

Forgotten Keys releases FK14: Hammond AV-64 for Kontakt

Forgotten Keys has launched Hammond AV-64, a virtual instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

The FK14 Kontakt Instrument is based on the Hammond auto-vari 64, model 101300. This is the later version released in the early 1980s, and featured 64 rhythms, 6 breaks and 10 analogue sounds.

Originally designed to sit on top of a home organ, indeed some top-of-the-range Hammond organs had the unit built in.

Forgotten Keys releases Korg Mini-Pops 3 for Kontakt

Forgotten Keys has launched FK13: Korg Mini-Pops 3 (AKA Univox SR-55), a virtual drum machine instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Forgotten Keys Korg Mini-Pops 3
Forgotten Keys Korg Mini-Pops 3 (aka Univox SR-55 & Aria Diamond) for Kontakt.

The MP-3 or SR-55, depending or where it was purchased, is an all analogue drum machine from the 1970s. Although it has less sounds that the MP-7/SR-95 it has more rhythm patterns due to the 36 variations of the swing/foxtrot rhythm.

The nine sounds are similar to the equivalents of the MP-7/SR-95 though the bass and cymbals are a little different. If you already have my FK1 Kontakt instrument there will not be a lot new here but I thought it was worth doing for a “no-brainer” price as I believe the current expression goes.

FK13: Korg Mini-Pops 3 features

  • 9 multi-sampled sounds.
  • 20 combinable re-created rhythms with 36 variations of the foxtrot/swing rhythm.
  • Volume, pan, tune and mute for each sound.
  • Note input and audio output routing.

The sample library costs £3 GBP.

Forgotten Keys updates Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4 for Kontakt

Forgotten Keys Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4

Forgotten Keys has updated its Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4 drum machine sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

The Maestro MRK-4 is I think a rather strange-looking drum machine from the 1970s. I’m still trying to fathem the logic behind the four white rhythm selectors!

It features intro/fill patterns and rather refined cymbal sounds. It is analogue of course and employs inductor coils to generate the drum sounds. This machine also appeared in a different form as the built-in rhythm unit in some top-of-the-range Lowrey organs of the period.

The Kontakt re-creation included two bonus sounds from the Maestro Rhythm ‘N Sound G2 kindly provided by one of my customers.

Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4 features

  • 10 multi-sampled sounds.
  • 16 re-created rhythms (combinable) plus two intro/fill-ins.
  • Kontakt interface with Setup tab with volume, pan, tune and mute for each instrument, randomisation controls and customisable note and output routing.
  • Plus, two bonus sounds from the Maestro Rhythm ‘N Sound G2.

The sample library costs £3 GBP. Requires Kontakt 4.2 or above, full version.

More modern metallic sounding cymbals than previous machines and a Swing feature that alters the feel.
