Fairly Confusing Waveforms has announced Psychodrumma, a free sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
The Psychodrumma is a “machine for blinking lights and making noise”.
Psychodrumma is nonsensical drum machine for NI Kontakt 4, focused on creating random and randomly evolving rhythmic patterns. It is experimental sound device and although it could be used as a regular drum machine, it would be probably impractical.
It is build of nine modules, called pads, each can playback a sound from one of two banks of 100 samples each, each has separate sound control rack and its own simple sequencer. All sequencers are synchronized with host tempo, but can run at different relative speeds and their start points can be de-synchronized, so to say.
The fun feature of Psychodrumma is, that it can play by itself, all of pad’s settings can be randomized on user input, gradually or periodically. You can just tune settings, let it play and observe evolving waves of randomness.
The virtual instrument library for Kontakt includes 200 wav files (24bit/44kHz), and is available to download at no charge.

Aegean Music has released Pitchproof, a free pitch shifter/harmonizer effect plug-in for Windows.
Pitchproof shifts the pitch of the signal in a high-quality but old-school way.
Pitchproof is an audio plug-in that can shift the pitch of the input. The effect is meant to combine old styles of pitch shifting with the quality you expect from modern plug-ins.
The result is this pitch “pedal” simulation that has most of what is great about guitar harmonizer pedals, and still preserves the signal’s integrity.
- Blend control for selecting fully shifted output, or the dry and wet signals mixed (a harmony).
- Pitch select -12 to +12, and 6 harmonies (intelligent pitch shift effects).
- Detune for a more natural effect.
- Mono option (lower CPU usage), or stereo for stereo inputs.
- Transient Fix.
- Guitar tuner.
The plug-in is available to download as freeware for Windows (VST).

Graham at GVST has announced the launch of the GVST on the Mac Kickstarter project, a chance to help fund Mac ports and enhancements.
I’ve had many requests over the years to offer Mac versions of the GVST plug-ins, and recently I’ve had more interest than ever.
I happen to be unemployed at the moment, which means that I have the opportunity to take this project on. However, I don’t own a Mac, and I have a few bills that I ought to keep paying, which is where you come in.
I’ve set a funding target of £3,500, which will buy me a basic MacBook and tide me over long enough to get the GVST plug-ins working on the Mac platform.
It’s important to note that GVST is a freeware enterprise and the resulting Mac plug-ins will be available as freeware for everybody to use. As a backer you can help to make this happen, but I’m not offering exclusive access to the software. I will of course keep all backers up-to-date with my progress. I don’t know if that’s a palatable proposition, but I suppose that’s what I’m here to find out.
The project is aiming to raise £3,500 GBP by March 9th, 2014.

Sound-Base Audio has released Retro Boy, a free chiptune synthesizer instrument for Windows.
Retro Boy is a virtual analog chiptune synthesizer/emulator. It does not specifically emulate a single device or sound chip, but it was made with a certain handheld gaming system in mind.
The goal was to make a simple, minimal, synth that could create “8-bit music” without being overly complicated or requiring much knowledge from the end-user.
Retro Boy features
- Single oscillator with seven different waveforms: Pulse 1 (12.5% duty cycle), Pulse 2 (25% duty cycle), Pulse 3 (50% duty cycle), Saw, Triangle, Sine, Noise.
- Volume, vibrato, decimation, ADSR envelope, and voice control (adjustable from 1 to 4 voices).
- Low CPU usage, <1% on an i5 processor.
Retro Boy for Windows (VST) is available to download as freeware.
