Tokyo Dawn Records release SlickEQ plugin

Tokyo Dawn has announced the release of SlickEQ, a mixing/mastering equalizer designed for ease of use, musical flexibility and impeccable sound, developed in collaboration with Variety Of Sound.

TDR / VOS SlickEQ

Three (and a half) filter-bands arranged in a classic Low/Mid/High semi parametric layout offer fast and intuitive access to four distinct EQ modes, each representing a set of distinct EQ curves and behaviors. An elaborate auto gain option automatically compensates for changes of perceived loudness during EQ operation. Optionally, SlickEQ allows to exclusively process either the stereo sum or stereo difference (i.e. “stereo width”) without additional sum/difference encoding.

In order to warm up the material with additional harmonic content, SlickEQ offers a switchable EQ non-linearity and an output stage with 3 different saturation models. These options are meant to offer subtle and interesting textures, rather than obvious distortion. The effect is made to add the typical “mojo” often associated with classy audio gear.
An advanced 64bit multirate processing scheme practically eliminates typical problems of digital EQ implementations such as frequency-warping, quantization distortion and aliasing.

SlickEQ features

  • Intuitive, yet flexible semi parametric EQ layout.
  • Full featured, modern user interface with outstanding usability and ergonomics.
  • Carefully designed 64bit “delta” multi-rate structure.
  • Three EQ bands with additional 18dB/Oct high-pass filter.
  • Four distinct EQ models: “American”, “British”, “German” and “Soviet” with optional non-linearity.
  • Four output stages: “Linear”, “Silky”, “Mellow” and “Deep”.
  • Advanced saturation algorithms by VoS (“stateful saturation”).
  • Highly effective and musically pleasing loudness compensated auto gain control.
  • Oversampled signal path including stateful saturation algorithms.
  • Stereo and sum/difference processing options.
  • Tool-bar with undo/redo, A/B, advanced preset management and more.

SlickEQ is available as a free effect plug-in for Windows and Mac (VST/AU). VST3 and AAX formats will follow later.

Audiotechracy releases free guitar patches for Reason

Audiotechracy has announced a collection of free guitar patches for Propellerhead Reason.

Audiotechracy Guitar Patches for Reason

After the success of the ‘Rock and Metal Drums ReFill Vol.1′ that I released a while back I have decided to follow that up with a set of guitar patches for you all to try. Rather that releasing this in the form of a ReFill, this time the download is in the form of just a Reason file with the patches all lined up in it for you.

The reason for doing this is that some of the patches are wah devices and include the automation lanes for the wah effect within the file. Also, whilst all of the patches are based in a Reason audio track, some of them use audio tracks paired up with Propellerhead Combinator patches built on the Line6 guitar rig (I’ve used the ‘Thrash Metal Rig’ one, but toned it down a bit). I could have built all the effects into Combinator patches and then released that as just a single unit, but I wanted to make these patches as accessible as possible to everyone. So no loading up patches or connecting things up to different audio channels then having to automate the wah yourself.

With these patches you just plug your guitar in, select the patch you want and off you go. If you want to then use these in Reason projects rather than just for practicing with then you can copy and paste them over to your tracks in the usual way.

The patches are a free download at Audiotechracy.

Amazing Noises has released GliderVerb, a free Max for Live device.

Amazing Noises GliderVerb

GliderVerb is a “reverberator with glissandos” simulating a room gradually changing its shape. It is an expanded version of an algorithm created by James McCartney for his Supercollider 2 programming language.

The original algorithm had no user-variable parameters: this device adds a series of parameters to create a wide palette of effects; from evolving reverberations to granular disintegration to smooth resonances.

GliderVerb is available to download at no charge. Requires Live 9 and Max for Live.

Dark Side of the Tune releases Resistance Is Futile

Resistance Is Futile

Dark Side of the Tune has released Resistance Is Futile, a free drum sample pack featuring rich and heavy analog drums created processed with the Malekko Richter Dual Borg Filter.

Adding dimension, the raw unfiltered white noise and band passed noise from an 808 clone was used for hi hats, cymbals, and snares. The results are wide ranging, from FM clang to beefy analog kicks that punch you in your face.

Samples labeled with a lower-case letter after them are multi-samples. This gives you the choice of randomizing each hit so you keep some of the analog integrity.

All 54 sounds are offered in 16 and 24 bit resolution, 44.1kHz wave files.

The sample pack is a free download from Dark Side of the Tune’s SoundCloud.

The Interruptor Bionic Supa Delay

This is an improved version of the popular “Bionic Delay” which is in use in many studios since over a decade.

The new version was developed in a joint effort with Dub producer Russ D (The Disciples) who proposed to include additional features which are helpful for live Dub mixes.

Bionic Supa Delay features

  • Tape delay section:
    • high and low frequency roll-off.
    • tape wow and flutter.
    • smooth parameter for continuous delay time changes.
    • freeze function.
    • x2 button, doubles the delay time.
    • delay time is syncronized with host tempo.
    • set any delay time between tripplet and doted note timing.
    • set different delay times in left and right channel.
  • Stereo section:
    • balance control pans the effect left and right.
    • stereo width control.
    • ping pong delay switch.
    • delays drifting from the center to the left or to the right.
    • auto panner.
  • Filter section:
    • 12 filter types.
    • LFO to modulate cutoff frequency (host synchronized).

Balance Mastering releases free Funktion One impulse responses

Balance Mastering has announced a free collection of Funktion One impulse responses, recorded at the The Hive Project in London.

Funktion One sound system at The Hive Project

The Hive Project—The Yard Theatre, Hackney Wick’s night time alter ego—let us have a few hours in on their Funktion One soundsystem.

Many tinnitus inducing tones, coloured noises and hours of studio tweaking later, we came up with a set of impulse responses that turn your convolution plugin into a mix tool for club soundsystem music. But even if your music isn’t club related, these impulse responses give a fresh perspective on the mix of any genre.

Load these IRs into your convolution plugin and hear what your music sounds like on The Hive Project’s Funktion One rig.

The IR pack is a free download.
