Everything Turns PurPLe

EverythingTurns has released PurPLe, a “Radiophonic Modular Analog Synthesiser – Sci-Fi Effect Generator” for Native Instruments Reaktor.

PurPLe takes its inspiration from the early days of synthesis and is dedicated to the pioneers of the sound effects departments that terrorised the audiences of the science fiction silver screen.

PurPLe’s sound is generated by free running multi-wave oscillators, each delivering a diverse waveform that can twist and warp almost as if it’s alive.

The key to this sonic arsenal is the Modulation Matrix Patch Bay, allowing the component parts of the synth to interact with each other. The Matrix opens up endless possibilities of frequency modulation and interaction by tapping into, chaining and merging the signal path. The more you explore the more possibilities you will discover.

PurPLE for Reaktor is available to purchase for £14 GBP. Requires Reaktor full version 5.8+.

Point Blank Online releases Max for Live Big Riff Generator

Point Blank Online has introduced Big Riff Generator, a free Max for Live device by expert tutor Daniel Herbert, designed to help stimulate the creative process.

Here’s the seventh Max For Live device in this current series from Point Blank. We’ve called it the Big Riff Generator and it’s capable of generating some monster riffs or funky bass lines when it’s in the mood! It only generates MIDI notes, so you’ll need to insert it just before an instrument device and choose a suitably fat sound. It bounces notes directly into the selected clip, and can produce an infinite amount of monophonic patterns. You can specify the key and select a variety of different scales and modes (if you’re interested in learning more about modes then be sure to check out Point Blank’s EMC2 course) and it also features probabilistic controls over octave leaps, rests and note repeats. You can let it explore a range of rhythmic variations or limit it to something more repetitive and it’s possible to also restrict the range of notes.

It’s great fun to see what musical ideas the Big Riff Generator can come up with, and after some playing around with the parameters you never know it might just produce that killer hook that you’ve been after. It’s not limited to pitched sounds, so try it out with drums, and as with any plugin of this nature, expect to tweak the patterns in the clip window and just use this as a starting point!

The Big Riff Generator is available to download at Point Blank Online’s Facebook.

EverythingTurns ArcWave

EverythingTurns has released ArcWave, a granular re-synthesiser ensemble for Native Instruments Reaktor.

ArcWave is a granular re-synthesiser that uses samples in place of oscillators allowing very diverse waveform generation from virtually any conceivable sound source.

An independent multipoint envelope generator bidirectionally scans the sample without affecting pitch, producing an ever changing waveform output feed to the filters.

The scan cycle, flow, motion, start point and length along with gain, pan, pitch and fine tune are all definable, plus the scan cycle can be disabled and set to static mode.

ArcWave is available to purchase for £12 GBP. It includes a separate ensemble of the Atmospheara effect processor included in ArcWave.

Justin Dolby releases free Smack My Batch Up audio processing application

Justin Dolby has released Smack My Batch Up, a free Max/MSP application for generating new sounds from samples with plugins.

Justin Dolby Smack My Batch Up
Smack My Batch Up is a software tool designed to batch process audio files.

A folder of WAV files can be loaded into the software along with up to 5 VST plug-in effects. When the programme is activated each WAV file in the folder is loaded and played through the VST FX rack and the resulting sound is recorded to disk. In addition to the VST rack, the speed of the sample playback can be altered, as well as the sample rate and bit depth of the new files. A folder location can be specified for the new sounds to be stored in, and a word can be added to the end of each file name to differentiate them from the original files.

The main purpose of Smack My Batch Up is to automate the process of creating new sounds for musical composition or sound design work. By chaining together different effects a folder of boring drum loops can be turned into evolving pads, or a folder of field recordings can be turned into percussion loops. A tempo box is provided allowing you to use tempo-sync’d FX so the resulting files will fit the tempo of your song.

Smack My Batch Up is available as a free download for Windows or Mac.
