Samplephonics has released Granular Structures, a sample library featuring over 280 drum and rhythm loops, grainy soundscapes, glitchy textures and rhythmic patterns.
Welcome to the parallel universe of Granular Structures, a rich tapestry of sounds, textures and rhythms interwoven together to produce one of our most exciting sample libraries to date. Granular atmospheres, rich evolving pads, mind bending glitchy beats, rhythmic sound patterns and deep melodic ideas come together to create a beautiful and thought provoking collection of loops and samples.
Created by sound designer and composer Carlos Butler, who has gone to great lenths to design an extremely well produced and complex selection of loops that are surprisingly flexible and easy to use. The samples work well layered with each other, as they do individually when dropped into an existing project.
Partikkel Audio has introduced plug-in versions of its Hadron particle synthesizer, previously released for Max for Live.
The Hadron synth is now available to hosts that support VST/AU plugins.
The Hadron plugin is your ultimate granular synthesis tool. In fact it is such a complete implementation of granular synthesis we’ve renamed the technique to particle synthesis. The plugin is of course free and open source.
For your convenience, we’ve made a preset system allowing you to quickly get started making music with it. All presets have selected “expression controls” to allow creativity and flexibility, and you can morph between presets for ultimate creativity. The plugin comes with a basic set of presets, and you can buy additional preset packs to expand your sonic palette. This kind of presets is called “states” in Hadron.
Hadron can be used as a synthesizer or an audio effect. It can also seamlessly morph between different sound processing methods, so you can make the plugin gradually change from synthesizer to audio processing mode. This is all part of the state morphing system, accessible via the big 2D joystick control.
You can also use live sampling as a sound source for manipulation with Hadron, as well as audio files and live audio input.
Hadron for Windows and Mac is a free download. Expansion packs are available to purchase for 29 EUR.
Steinberg has announced the release of Absolute, a VST instrument collection comprising the HALion Sonic workstation, the Hypnotic Dance, Triebwerk and Dark Planet instruments alongside the Retrologue virtual-analog and Padshop Pro granular synthesizers.
HALion Sonic combines a high-quality sample library with a powerful sampling and synthesis engine that unfolds infinite possibilities for sound generation. Featuring synthesizer programs and presets for contemporary productions, Hypnotic Dance, Triebwerk and Dark Planet complement HALion Sonic’s library and as a completely new feature now also run independently as full blown instruments within VST and AU hosts. Retrologue is a virtual-analog synthesizer while Padshop Pro is Steinberg’s latest achievement in bringing granular synthesis to the world of VST.
“Absolute is the epitome of what Steinberg offers regarding synthesized sounds. With the entire collection running on your computer, an infinite palette of sounds is at your fingertips,” commented Matthias Quellmann, Steinberg’s product marketing manager for VST instruments. “It’s going to take a while for users to comprehend the sheer magnitude of it all,” Quellmann added.
6 high-quality VST instruments comprising thousands of presets:
HALion Sonic is Steinberg’s premier VST workstation, featuring the latest sampling and synthesis technologies, a world-class library and an intelligent user interface that excels in the studio as well as on stage.
Padshop Pro introduces a new way of granular sound design. Get yourself ready for out-of-this-world atmospheres and far-out effects.
Zero Gravity is the exceptional expansion pack for Padshop Pro and comes with 250 new presets and a fully loaded new SoftGrain Wave ROM.
Retrologue offers old-school analog synth sounds and biting sonic blocks and is ideal for creating fat and funky lead and bass sounds.
Hypnotic Dance is a treasure trove for electronic music producers with solid bass lines, cutting leads and beautifully textured pads.
Triebwerk is the go-to choice for club-worthy dance sounds including soaring synths, four-to-the-floor drum kits and queasy vocals.
Dark Planet is best suited for cinematic scores and musical excursions, comprising creepy sounds, shattering loops and eerie instruments.
VST 3, VST 2 and AU host compatibility.
Cross-platform 32/64-bit for Windows and Mac OS X Intel.
Steinberg USB-eLicenser included.
The Absolute VST instrument collection is available to purchase for 299 EUR, including German VAT.
Steinberg is offering users of Cubase 6.5 and Cubase Artist 6.5 a download version of the Absolute VST instrument collection. This version includes the upgrade to Padshop Pro, not the Padshop Pro full version, excludes Retrologue and the USB-eLicenser, and requires the HALion Sonic Trial DVDs included in the Cubase 6.5 and Cubase Artist 6.5 retail boxes. This offer is available exclusively through the Steinberg Online Shop for 249 EUR, including German VAT.
M-RGT has announced the release of psyGEN, an experimental granular synthesizer plug-in for Windows.
The psyGEN granular multilayer synthesizer uses samples as the source for unique sound generation in the creation of experimental ambient soundscapes, drones, special effects, as well as more traditional synthesizer sounds.
Using granular synthesis as a basis it adds extensive Modulation and FX capabilities to take any type of .wav file source and turn it into a multi-layered composition of great complexity.
With the built-in 16 track sequencer, long evolving ambient/drone sounds can be created and cross-faded with other sounds to create dense tapestries of sound. Also, the sequencer allows for more rhythmic based compositions or patches as well. It is possible to create an entire composition with just one track incorporating many variations.
psyGEN can be used as a standalone synthesizer with a plug-in like SaviHost or similar program or can be installed as a VSTi with a Host DAW.
The psyGEN plug-in for Windows (VST) is available to purchase for $33.50 USD.
Chris Carlson has released Borderlands, a new granular musical instrument for the iPad.
Explore, touch, and transform sound with this new interface for granular synthesis, a technique that involves the superposition of small fragments of sound, or grains, to create complex, evolving timbres and textures.
Borderlands emphasizes gestural interaction over knobs and sliders. Create, drag, and throw pulsing collections of grains over a landscape of audio files, or use the built-in accelerometer to sculpt sound with gravity. Record, save, and share performances via SoundCloud.
Borderlands comes ready to play with default sample content included, but you can load your own sounds too.
