Toontrack releases The Rock Warehouse SDX

Toontrack The Rock Warehouse SDX

Toontrack has announced the release of The Rock Warehosue SDX, a new Superior Drummer expansion library.

This new sound library expansion was recorded by Randy Staub in Vancouver’s world-famous The Warehouse Studio. With mixing credits on some of the best selling rock albums ever (Metallica’s “Black Album”, Nickelback’s “Silver Side Up”, Avril Lavigne’s “Under My Skin”) and a catalogue that spans close to 300 productions, Randy is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and noted producers of the past decades. Add to that The Warehouse Studio’s breathtaking acoustics, mint condition drums tuned to perfection, the best dynamic, ribbon and condenser mics money can buy, chains of rare vintage outboard – all ultimately saturated by one of the only three existing Neve AIR consoles.

The Rock Warehouse SDX comes with a broad scope of drum selections and presents a total of three full kits, two extra kicks, three additional snares and an extensive collection of cymbals. From the modern edge of the Ayotte Custom kit, the warm and round sound of the Gretsch USA Custom set to the massive strike of the Dunnett Titanium drums, your options span from tight and snappy to big and ambient. Simply put: drums, recorded with utmost craftsmanship in one of the finest facilities in the world.

The Rock Warehouse SDX features

  • Engineered by Randy Staub (Metallica, Nickelback, Mötley Crüe).
  • Recorded through a rare Neve AIR console (originally one of the three consoles custom-built by Rupert Neve exclusively for AIR Studios).
  • Approx. 20 GB of raw, unprocessed drums.
  • Three complete kits.
  • Two extra kicks, three additional snares, three sets of cymbals.
  • Additional percussion pieces: tambourine and cowbell.
  • Extensive rock oriented MIDI library performed by Ryan Vikedal (ex-Nickelback).

The library is available to purchase for 159 EUR / $179 USD.

MPC-Samples releases The 60s Funk Kit

MPC-Samples The 60's Funk Kit

MPC-Samples has announced the release of The 60s Funk Kit, a multisampled drum kit recorded to analogue tape that perfectly captures the unique sound and vibe of the great funk records from the 60′s and early 70′s.

Inspired by the kits used by legendary drummers such as Clyde Stubblefield, Jabo Starks and Zigaboo Modeliste and built around a 1960s Gretsch Round Badge kick drum and a Ludwig Black Beauty snare, it’s full of the warmth and character you’d expect to hear from classic vintage drum recordings.

Every instrument in the kit has been recorded by UK drummer Richard Preston (Tombongo) over three unique velocities and features four ‘takes’ per velocity. There’s a total of 180 unique sounds and 15 unique articulations including kick (damped), snare (damped), rim shot, snare drag, hi hat (closed, open and edge), ride (including bell), crash, hi and low toms, claps, tambourine and shaker.

Samples are provided in 24 and 16 bit WAV format as well as legacy MPC SND and are completely unprocessed for a traditional and natural sound, giving you complete freedom to add your own EQ and processing during mixdown.

We’ve also included ready-made MPC programs carefully tweaked and configured for all MPC models (including JJOS) that load up intuitively laid out finger-drumming kits utilising features such as velocity switching and ‘round robins’ to help you create very realistic sounding drum performances in your MPC sequencer.

Drumdrops releases 70s New Wave Drops

Drumdrops 70s New Wave Drops

Drumdrops has introduced 70s New Wave Drops, a drum multi-tracks, stems and loops album featuring 13 drum tracks by drummer Pete Thomas who played and recorded on nearly all of Elvis Costello’s albums.

Producer/engineer Roger Bechirian came in to record, mix and produce the drum tracks on ’70s New Wave Drops’. Roger was responsible for recording and mixing many of Elvis Costello’s albums, as well as other New Wave records by the likes of Nick Lowe, Squeeze and The Undertones making him an obvious choice for the production of ‘70s New Wave Drops’.

The selection of tracks range in tempo from 80 BPM to 167 BPM and the grooves are full of driving snares and tom fills. For fans of Elvis Costello they will recognise a number of the tracks – ‘I Don’t Want to Go To Chelsea’, ‘Oliver’s Army’, ‘Radio Radio’, ‘Pump It Up’ are just some of the featured grooves.

The kit used was a Hybrid Gretsch kit and a more modern DW Collector Series provided by London based Drumhire (www.drumhire.com). We used the DW kick drum with Gretsch toms and Zildjian A Cymbals. Two snares were used: Pete Thomas’ Ludwig 400 snare (which is the very same snare Pete used on the original tracks); and a 1970’s Ludwig Black Beauty snare.

The album was recorded in Miloco’s The Square recording studio, London using an SSL G Series console with Telefunken and Calrec mic pre’s. The kit was mic’d up with 12 microphones including Coles Ribbons, Neumann U47 Fets and AKG C28 valve mics. All of the tracks were recorded on to a 16 track Analogue 2” machine. The Square has recently been used by bands and artists such as Hurts, The Vaccines, The Kooks, Paulo Nutini and Plan B.

Mixing took place in Miloco’s The Engine Room, which is based around an SSL G Series console and a collection of outboard including EAR valve EQs, Manley Vari-Mu Compressors and Calrec PQ1161 EQs, all of which featured prominently in the album mixes.

Drumdrops offers the ’70s New Wave Drops’ as drum multi-tracks, mixes & drum stems and drum loops. All of the multi-tracks come with session templates for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live, Reaper and Studio One. An OMF file is also provided should you need to export the 24 bit 44.1 WAVs into any other DAW. A beat tempo map is included to help users sync up the drum machines.

The stem and mix packs come with the full mix of drums, as well as separate drum stems of each individual drum component. The stems are designed for those who want the ready-mixed versions of the drums so that you can build your track quickly.

The drum loops packs contain around 8 different 4-bar loops taken from each track and are provided as mixes of the individual drum parts, as well as the full mix. Available formatted as WAVs, Apple Loops and Rex2 files, they can be dropped into any software, sampler or drum machine.

70s New Wave Drops is available to purchase for $46.50 USD (Loops Pack) / $54.25 USD (Stems and Mix Files) / $77.50 USD (Multitrack Session). Individual album tracks are also sold separately.
