Hermann Seib VSTHost

Hermann Seib has released updates for the free VSTHost and SAVIHost software for Windows.

VSTHost is a program to run VST PlugIns. In contrast to the big programs (Cubase, Nuendo, Logic come to mind), it is not a full-fledged giant sequencer package that needs many seconds just to come up to a point where it can say “Hello”. It’s relatively small, and hopefully will stay so, and it only runs PlugIns. No sequencing (well, it can play back simple audio and MIDI files), no elaborate recording facilities (although it does have a simple multitrack recorder built in). To make up for that, you can define very complex PlugIn setups and switch between them easily.

SAVIHost is a little derivate of VSTHost that has been crafted for the sole purpose of automatically loading exactly one VSTi.

Changes in VSTHost v1.54

  • Fixed incompatibility with ReaJS and other PlugIns that don’t pass back a chunk before one’s been loaded.
  • Restructured File menu and added “Mute Performance On Load”.
  • Added “Delete” button to Load Performance and Save Performance As dialogs.
  • VST3 PlugIns’ custom context menu could kill VSTHost; corrected.
  • VST3 MIDI Controller -> Parameter ID remapping didn’t work correctly.
  • Performance loading didn’t work correctly for Shell PlugIns (only if the previously loaded performance did NOT contain them).
  • MIDI->Parameter output mode “Relative” added.
  • New MIDI->Parameter types “Note On/Off Velocity” and “Note On/Off Key” added.
  • New MIDI->Parameter modes “From” and “To” added (for defined triggers).
  • Added Pre-/Post-Fader recording.
  • Added soft clipping.
  • Bridge program stability increased; robustness against bridge program failures increased; bridge speed improvements.
  • Added some REAPER-style PlugIn calls and host callbacks.
  • Added PlugIn Editor window support for VST Module Architecture PlugIns.
  • Added SysEx window to list of possible MIDI inputs for PlugIns.
  • PlugIns can send MIDI to SysEx window, and SysEx messages are passed fromSysEx window to PlugIns.
  • PlugIn Parameter window remodeled to match Cubase’s getParameterProperties() support.
  • Added manual to distribution (not for betas).
  • Added “Double x64″ distribution for people with too much CPU time.

Changes in SAVIHost v1.42

  • Fixed incompatibility with ReaJS and other PlugIns that don’t pass back a chunk before one’s been loaded.
  • VST3 MIDI Controller -> Parameter ID remapping didn’t work correctly.
  • Added soft clipping.
  • Added VST Module Architecture distributions.
  • Added PlugIn Editor window support for VST Module Architecture PlugIns.

Both VST host applications for Windows are available to download at no charge. Donations are welcome.

Hermann Seib VSTHost

Hermann Seib has released version 1.46 of VSTHost and version 1.33 of SAVIHost, two freeware VST host software applications.

Changes in VSTHost v1.46 / SAVIHost v1.33

  • Can play .mp3 files (using external mpg123 package – see VSTHost documentation for details).
  • Lots of bug fixes and internal changes as usual. Since it’s been nearly two years since the last official update, there are many.
  • [VSTHost] Experimental VST3 support.
  • [VSTHost] Experimental VST Module Architecture support.
  • [VSTHost] MIDI filtering and transformations have been expanded and made much more flexible.
  • [VSTHost] Speaker configuration can be done for plug-ins that support it.
  • [VSTHost] Audio in / out is done through special pseudo-plug-ins now; this permits to remove the distinction between “insert” and “send” links between plug-ins.

VSTHost and SAVIHost are available as freeware for Windows PC (An open source version of VSTHost is also available).
