HISS and a ROAR has announced the release of Entropy, a thermodynamic sound library.
This new library was created by recording sound created by heat transfer in many, many different forms.
Whether it was cooking and burning various food types, turning water and ice into vapour, rapidly cooling very hot metals or physically manipulating metal objects on dry ice, this is a library with a very diverse and unusual range of tonalities, perfect for intensely creative sound effects design.
Entropy features
- 24bit 192kHz.
- 1,019 stereo sounds in 69 .WAV files.
- 5.5GB download, 8.4GB uncompressed.
Entropy is available to purchase for the introductory price of $66 USD until 9am January 22nd EST (regular $99 USD).

HISS and a ROAR has released a free 247MB package of 24 bit 96kHz stereo sounds.
First is a brand new but redundant VHS video deck someone gave me which I promptly pulled to pieces and tortured, then are some little wind up toys that I recorded sitting on top of an old 16mm film canister. Third is a strange little prop: an antique herb grinder that I bought in a junk store, which has a great squeak that can be performed at various speeds. Fourth are some sounds I made on my modular synth – analogue synthesis is one form of religion I subscribe to – watch your bass bins is all I can say! Fifth is a green watering can – the kind of practical Xmas present you might like, but as it is metal and very resonant I managed to extract some unique sounds from it when it contained a little bit of water & I could bend the pitch of the resonance. And lastly are some very strange glass squeaks!
The sample pack is a free download for HISS and a ROAR subscribers (subscription free).

HISS and a ROAR has announced Gale Force Wind, a new sound fx sample library.
I first began recording this new library back in January 2012 when a Northerly gale blew part of the roof off my studio neighbour. Since then I’ve recorded winds in wires and aerials, in a boat yard, on hilltops and inside World War II bunkers, as well as setting up some spooky draft situations inside houses.
I also set up a temporary aoliean harp and recorded it using contact mics. The results are a 7GB library of unique winds, many of which are as applicable to sound effects & design as they are to ambiences.
The sound library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $39 USD until December 22nd, 2012 (regular $49 USD).

HISS and a ROAR has announced White Water, a new sample library featuring the sounds of waterfalls.
This really is an ambience library with a HISS as well as a ROAR: WHITE WATER was recorded at over a dozen locations involving waterfalls (including the mighty Huka Falls which runs at 220,000 litres per second!) rapids, rivers & mountain streams.
The new library is delivered as 24bit 96kHz multi mic ambiences with a minimum duration of three minutes each.
The sample library is available to purchase at the introductory price of $39 USD. It will be $49 USD from December 1st, 2012.

HISS and a ROAR has announced the release of Tortured Cymbals, a 10 GB sound design library.
Just how many ways can you torture a cymbal? Well…. I set out on a year long journey to find out! I started off bowing them, progressed to manipulating them with hand tools and electric drills and ended up bending, breaking, dropping, throwing & eventually destroying them… all in the name of providing diverse & unique source material for you!
This library includes an incredibly diverse collection of tonal & atonal sounds (great food for granular processing!) ranging from the shrill to the subsonic, as well as some very strange textures and uniquely percussive impacts! The contrast between the synchronous dual contact mic and stereo high resolution Sennhesier MKH80X0 mics could not be starker.
Tortured Cymbals features
- 1,865 sounds in 138 .WAV files.
- 24bit 96kHz.
- 5.6 GB download, 10.1 GB uncompressed.
The sample library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $79 USD through November 16th, 2012 (regular $99 USD).
