Drumdrops announces 1963 Premier Outfits 54 single shot multi-velocity drum kit

Drumdrops 1963 Premier Outfits 54

Drumdrops has announced the upcoming 1963 Premier Outfits 54, the first release in a series of 8 single shot multi-velocity drum kits.

Already one of the world’s leading places to purchase bespoke live drum tracks as multi- tracks, stems and loops, Drumdrops.com are now gearing up to start selling the first of their high-standard, single shot multi-velocity drum kits from May 2013.

The first kit set for release is the Vintage 1963 Premier Outfits 54 Kit, similar to the one played by Ringo Starr in his early career. This classic vintage kit was recorded in Miloco’s The Pool in London, taking advantage of the studio’s fantastic sounding live space. The talents of drummer, Adam Falkner, were harnessed to sample the kit in multiple velocity steps to create the most realistic sounding packs possible. This kit is an essential addition to any drum library, offering the highest quality authentic sounding 60s kit at your fingertips.

To make projects even easier, the 1963 Premier Outfits 54 kit is available to purchase in three separate packs.

1963 Premier Outfits 54 features

  • The Kontakt 5 Pack — Probably the most impressive part about this forthcoming release; Drumdrops have built their own Kontakt 5 interface featuring everything existing Kontakt 5 users have come to expect. Sixteen velocity levels are included on each articulation and multiple round robins resulting in over 7000 samples, ensures this kit is meticulously and successfully matched to the real thing. The mixer has mute, solo, pan, phase, routing and two aux sends and each channel comes with a 4-band EQ and Transient Master. Custom velocity curves and MIDI Mapping are also standard. There are a number of convolution reverbs included, which have been taken from a variety of commercial studios, and some of the more interesting spring and plate reverbs, whilst randomisation features further enhance the authentic sound. These are just some of the features on the forthcoming pack. For a detailed overview, click here to download the manual.
  • The Multi-Velocity Pack — Don’t have Kontakt 5? Don’t worry – Drumdrops have covered that, too! This pack is perfect for the pro’s that may want a smaller sample set to add to their library, and with up to sixteen velocity levels on each articulation and no round robins, it’s the ideal choice. Built to load up in any sampler or drum machine, Drumdrops have also made life easier, going that one step further by including templates for Kontakt, Battery, EXS24, idrum, Maschine, with Geist and MIDI templates included for the sampler templates. You can download the multi-velocity Pack manual here.
  • The Single Hits Pack — Designed with drum machine users in mind or those who don’t need multiple velocities, simplicity was the key with this pack and with just three velocities included, there’s a super simple price to go with it as well. Like the multi-velocity kit, this single hit package features the same templates for ease and accessibility; just download and go! To download the single pack manual click here.

The Premier Outfits 54 Kit for Kontakt will be available to purchase on May 7th, 2013, priced at £30 GBP. The multi-velocity and single hits packs are priced £10 GBP and £5 GBP respectively. More kits will be released over the coming months.

iZotope and T-Pain have teamed up on The T-Pain Effect, a collection of music making tools designed to empower everyone to make music. Users will be able to make beats and record vocals featuring the distinctive sound of T-Pain himself.

“When I teamed up with iZotope my goal was to bring people a quality audio tool that produces quality sound,” says T-Pain. “iZotope’s knowledge of audio technology really impressed me and I knew they were the right team to partner with. This is the technology I use on my own records. I wouldn’t put my name on anything I didn’t stand by, and you can hear it on my records.”

iZotope The T-Pain Effect

The T-Pain Effect centers on The T-Pain Engine, a self-contained beat-making and vocal recording application for PC and Mac. Aspiring artists can get started immediately by selecting from over 50 professionally crafted song templates comprised of hundreds of T-Pain approved beats. With the backing track in place, users can then sing, rap, or speak on one or two vocal tracks to record a song with ease. Beats and song arrangements can be customized and vocals can be edited, including punch-in recording for retakes. For more vocal flavor, users can add The T-Pain Effect to the vocal tracks, tweaking the hardness and softness controls to dial in just the right sound. Then, after adjusting the levels of the final mix, the completed song can be exported and shared with friends or published directly to SoundCloud to share with the online world.

“We’re very proud to partner with T-Pain to develop and evolve the world’s first signature vocal effect,” says Alex Westner, Director of Business Development at iZotope. “As an influential and tech-minded GRAMMY® Award-winning artist & producer, T-Pain has captured the attention of hip-hop, pop, dance and electronic musicians worldwide with his distinctive vocal style.”

In addition to the standalone T-Pain Engine, the product includes a VST, AU, and RTAS plug-in version of The T-Pain Effect for use with popular digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, GarageBand, Cubase, SONAR, Logic, and many more. The plug-in is a professional tool designed for music production studios and includes real-time monitoring through the host program, hardness/softness controls for dialing in the sound, and scale presets to match the key of a song. Advanced users can also create their own scale presets using the built-in keyboard or a MIDI controller.

The product also includes iDrum: T-Pain Edition, a virtual drum machine that includes hundreds of custom beats of different musical genres, inspired by over 50 new T-Pain iDrum kits with all-new samples. Used as a standalone application or a plug-in, users can arrange beats into songs, create new kits and patterns, import their own samples, and edit samples with effects like pitch, filter, and decay. iDrum T-Pain Edition is fully compatible with other content from iZotope’s various iDrum titles.

The T-Pain Effect for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/MAS/DX/Standalone) is available to purchase for $99 USD MSRP.

Mini-review: Goldbaby Productions MPC60 Vol 3

Goldbaby MPC60 Vol 3

Goldbaby Productions just released the third and final volume of its MPC60 series of sample libraries.

MPC60 Vol 3 features over 1,000 sounds sampled on a vintage Akai MPC-60 sampler.

This is the last in the MPC60 series of sample packs. It includes: Layered Drums, Vinyl Drums, Various Drum Machines, FX and even some synth sounds…. all sampled on the MPC60. Then captured as 24 bit wav files. These are some seriously solid samples dripping with the 60′s legendary sonic character.

Taking a look at the sound sources for volume 3 of the MPC60 series you may notice some familiar names like the Oberheim DMX, Emu Drumulator, Roland CR-78, MFB522, Vermona DRM and Linn LM-1 drum machines. It looks like Goldbaby went crate digging in his own sample collection!

The 1,053 wav samples are categorized in various folders for easy browsing. Besides the drum machine samples there is also a folder with layered drums. This is one of those tricks most hip hop producers will know about. Layering a drum hit will give you a fatter, bigger drum sound.

A “Vinyl” folder features even more drum samples, sampled from vinyl. I can’t tell you how these were done exactly but I know a lot of work went into creating them — think vintage equipment, tape, additional processing like the UBK Fatso, etc. — and it shows. These samples sound so good it’s ridiculous.

Production ready sounds aplenty, great authentic vibe. Although MPC60 Vol 3 features mostly drum sounds there are also some nice synth and effects samples.

Bass, blips and fx from a Yamaha CS-10, tons of processed vinyl effects, sweepy sounds from the Gakken SX-150, some crazy weird vox, various hits and stabs, and more, more, and even more!

MPC60 Vol 3 also comes with some kit patches in various formats (Battery 3, ReFill, iDrum, Guru) for instant satisfaction.

So what do I think?

Product: MPC60 Vol 3 by Goldbaby Productions
Format: 24bit/44KHz wav (+ Battery 3, Guru, iDrum, Refill)
Price: $24 USD (all formats included)

I wasn’t planning on doing another Goldbaby review for a while because I’m running out of things to say about these fantastic sample libraries. So here’s the bottom line: Goldbaby delivers, time after time.

MPC60 Vol 3 is a wonderful collection of high quality lo-fi (?!) samples. They sound absolutely outstanding and will do great in any production that needs to have that vintage sound. Hip Hop producers will love these.

Review: Goldbaby The Tape909

Goldbaby Tape909

Goldbaby Productions has recently released a new downloadable sample pack featuring another classic drum machine.

After the TR-808 and (free) TR-606 sample collections, a mint TR-909 machine was recorded for The Tape909.

The product page reads:

The Tape808 has been very well received so we decided to give the TR909 some tape love!…

This is 1446 samples taken from a mint 909 recorded into an Ampex 351 1/2″ valve 2 track tape machine!

That’s not all… We also put the 909 through other vintage gear. Plus we recorded it naked into a Metric Halo ULN-2 firewire audio card. Then we chose the best samples.

There is an amazing amount of high quality samples in this pack. So many, it may even look like there is too much to choose from.

I mean, the bassdrum folder has no less than 665 different bassdrum samples! Many of the samples are quite similar, but there are subtle differences. Just play those you suspect are the same consecutively, and you’ll find they sound a little different after all.

This is great if you don’t want every kick to sound exactly the same.

I tried the Battery version of The Tape909, which comes with 10 different 909 kits. As you can hear from the demo sounds, The Tape909 has quite a wide range of sounds.

Refill, Guru, iDrums and straight .wav versions of The Tape909 are available as well.

So what do I think?

Goldbaby delivers another outstanding sample pack.

The Tape909 includes tons of superb quality samples, with the Ampex tape machine delivering unique samples you will not find anywhere else.

This will most definitely be my go-to collection for 909 sounds.

Starting at just $19 USD for the sample pack, Goldbaby’s The Tape909 is not very expensive, so don’t waste your time looking for samples of this quality anywhere else.
