# Image Line Drumaxx Tutorial – Routing Pad Output to Separate Audio Tracks in Ableton Live

Mark Mosher posted a tutorial on how to route pad output of Image-Line's Drumaxx percussion synth to separate audio tracks in Ableton Live.

Image Line has just released a new Percussion Modeling Instrument called Drumaxx made by Maxx Claster. Drumaxx includes 130 drumkits, 900 drum patches, 200 drum patterns. If you use Sawer, Sakura, Morphine, Poizone, or Toxic Biohazard instruments, then you are familiar with Maxx’s work.

Image Line is offering Drumaxx as a “name your price” download for limited until March 31st,2010 with a minimum price of $13 USD with $1 going to support Haiti earthquake victims. With a deal like this I thought it was a “no brainer” so I picked it up.

One of the coolest features is that each of the 16 physically modeled drums can be routed to individual tracks within your host so you can add additional effects. Below I’ll show you how to set this up on Ableton Live.

# Studio Wormbone

Trevor Dutton wrote in to let us know that he’s hiring out the services of his electronic music studio.

Studio Wormbone is a compact and efficient state of the art recording and production facility located in a quiet forest setting just outside the Emerald City of Seattle.

Owned and managed by sound designer/producer Trevor Dutton, Wormbone Studio specializes in all aspects of electronic music, sound design, and cutting edge audio production.

Trevor has also released a number of sample packs, now available from Producer Loops.

Image-Line Drumaxx

Image-Line has announced the release of Drumaxx, a virtual drum instrument for Windows and Mac.

The Drumaxx percussion modeling instrument gives you total control over 16 physically modeled drum pads that can be routed to independent outputs for external effects processing.

Drumaxx is not based on samples or even commonly used ’synthesis’ techniques, where oscillators are mixed and the result is always ‘electronic’. Drumaxx uses modeling algorithms to create bass drums, hi-hats, snares, realistic and electronic sounds too. But what about the traditional ‘Achilles’ heel’ of synthesis, cymbals? Drumaxx creates cymbals and metallic percussion also.

At the core of Drumaxx is a model where the vibrating membrane is represented as a mesh of interconnected points. Each point is given physical properties including mass, inertia, stiffness, damping, and all that good physics stuff. For the musician, this means Drumaxx gives you control over multiple parameters such as material, thickness, tension and shape. More importantly, the parameters can be modulated in real-time as a function of velocity or external controls. The drum body is also under user control too, including body material, size, vibration damping, and shape. All this gives you multi-dimensional performance options, a Matrix of variables providing nearly infinite possibilities.

Drumaxx features

  • 16 Physically modeled drum pads
  • Multi-output for individual effects processing on each pad
  • Huge range of modeling possibilities covering sounds from cymbals to kettle-drums
  • Velocity modulation matrix for detailed expressiveness
  • Integrated Stepsequencer with trigger-key playback
  • Integrated effects
  • Single-pad version ‘Drumpad’ available for tight integration with FL Studio

Drumaxx is available for PC and Mac (VST/AU/Standalone) for an introductory “pay what you think it’s worth” price until 31 March, 2010, with a minimum of $13 USD to cover costs. Image-Line will donate 1 USD from each sale to support Haiti earthquake victims.

Image-Line releases Drumatrix Public Beta

Image-Line Drumatrix

Image-Line has announced the release of a public beta of Drumatrix, a percussion modeling instrument featuring 10 physically modeled drums that can be routed to independent outputs for external effects processing.

Drumatrix is not based on samples or even commonly used ’synthesis’ techniques, where oscillators are mixed and the result is ‘electronic’. Drumatrix is a truly ‘modelled’ drum, and not just a single drum, Drumatrix can model bass drums, hi-hats, snares, realistic and yes electronic sounds too. But what about the traditional ‘Achilles’ heel’ of synthesis, cymbals? We have left the best until last, Drumatrix models cymbals & metallic ‘ethnic’ percussion instruments with ease.

At the core of Drumatrix is a model of the drum-head. Here the vibrating membrane is represented in a mesh of inter-connected of points, each given physical properties, mass, inertia, stiffness, damping and all that good physics stuff. For the musician, this means Drumatrix can model the drum-head with multiple parameters such as material, thickness, tension and even shape. More importantly the parameters can be modulated in real-time as a function of velocity or external controls. The drum body is also modelled, in terms of material, size, vibration damping and shape. All this gives you multi-dimensional performance possibilities, a Matrix of variables providing the almost infinite complexity & subtlety of hitting a real drum.

Drumatrix features

  • 10 Physically modelled drum pads.
  • Multi-output for individual effects processing on each pad.
  • Huge range of modelling possibilities covering sounds from cymbals to kettle-drums.
  • Velocity modulation matrix for detailed expressiveness.
  • Integrated Stepsequencer with trigger-key playback.
  • Integrated effects.
  • Single-pad version ‘Drumpad’ available for tight integration with FL Studio Stepsequencer.

The Drumatrix Public Beta is available to download for PC and Mac.
