Impact Soundworks launches Shreddage website + open-source SFZ format available

Impact Soundworks Shreddage

Impact Soundworks has launched its new Shreddage website, providing product information, video tutorials, audio demos, and user content for the Shreddage family of electric guitar and bass sample libraries.

The website was launched alongside new open-source, cross-platform versions of “Shreddage: Electric Rhythm Guitar” and “Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition” in the SFZ format.

Impact Soundworks, a joint venture between composers Andrew Aversa and Wilbert Roget, II, was founded in 2007 with the goal of creating innovative, affordable and unique sample libraries that are “designed with composers in mind.”

“We’ve received so much great feedback from users of Shreddage, from composers, producers, and even rock guitarists; however, requiring the Kontakt software made it inaccessible for many who would have loved to use it,” said Aversa, designer of the libraries. “We’re thrilled to finally be offering our Shreddage instruments to all musicians, on any computer or operating system, with no barrier of entry.”

“Shreddage” and its expansion “Shreddage X” were originally released for Native Instruments Kontakt and contain over 2,000 recordings of a 6-string electric guitar recorded direct-in. The libraries contain all crucial articulations for rhythm playing, including powerchords, single notes, multiple palm mute variations, up to 8x round robins, legato slides, tremolo picking, vibrato, pinch squeals and more. “Shreddage Bass” takes a similar approach to the picked electric bass.

The open-source SFZ format can be loaded into most any sampling software, such as LinuxSampler (www.LinuxSampler.org), which itself is open-source, 32/64 bit and compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux. Sample editor Baard Wolvik faithfully converted the Shreddage libraries to SFZ, maintaining virtually all features and functionality.

A copy of Peavey’s ReValver HPse virtual amp software is included with each copy of Shreddage, featuring custom presets and a discounted upgrade path to their flagship ReValver HP and ReValver MKIII.V products.

The sample libraries are available in the SFZ format at a discounted price of $49 USD. Existing users of the Kontakt version can crossgrade for free.

Impact Soundworks releases Plectra Series 1: 8-string Acoustic Bouzouki

Impact Soundworks has released Plectra Series 1: 8-string Acoustic Bouzouki, a bouzouki sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt (previously released by Handmade Sounds).

Designed, recorded and produced by Dimitris Plagiannis, our first entry into the Plectra Series of virtual instruments is a classic instrument of Greek music. Reminiscent of the European mandolin but with a deeper, richer tone, the bouzouki has its roots as one of the oldest musical instruments. No sample libraries existed that truly captured this beautiful instrument in great depth and detail, until now!

Our 8-string acoustic bouzouki has been thoroughly sampled and produced with all the love and care you would expect from a next-generation virtual instrument. Extensive, custom scripting by Dimitris has been created to simulate real playing as accurately as possible. From dynamic changes to up and down strokes, string selection, note speed, legato slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs and more, every facet of bouzouki performance has been painstakingly recreated.

Demonstration of the 8-string Acoustic Bouzouki.

8-string Acoustic Bouzouki features

Impact Soundworks releases Resonance: Emotional Mallets for Kontakt

Impact Soundworks has announced the release of Resonance: Emotional Mallets, its newest sample library designed for film, TV and game composers.

Impact Soundworks Resonance Emotional Mallets

This is a collection of custom-made and found instruments constructed from metal, glass, wood and stone, played with mallets, fingers, hands, bows and sampled in great depth. Instruments include a glass marimba, a ‘metal ensemble’ of percussive instruments, bowed stones, a glass gong, chromatic pot lids, and many more, comprising 33 total patches for Kontakt 4.

In addition to these natural instruments and patches, we’ve also created a wealth of “Designed” patches in such categories as Impacts & FX, Tonal Pads and Textures & Ambience. These 49 patches take the original recorded audio in a totally new direction using both internal Kontakt and external processing. From deep metal strikes to warm bell keys, swelling pads and alien textures, these sounds are sure to be useful in many compositions.

The library was recorded mostly dry with a slight amount of room air, making the sounds very flexible and well-suited for the included convolution reverb, or external reverb/processing. Every patch includes a variety of round robins and velocity layers, plus a custom scripted interface that gives the user quick access to important sound sculpting controls: treble/bass, attack/damping, transposition, reverb and spatial width.

Resonance: Emotional Mallets is available to purchase as an instant download for the introductory price of $79 USD (regular $99 USD).

Impact Soundworks releases Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition

Impact Soundworks has announced the release of Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Impact Soundworks Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition

Following the success of our Shreddage and Shreddage X guitar libraries, we’ve received countless requests for a rock & metal bass library. Rather than settle for a simple instrument limited in genre, we decided to go further and create a deep-sampled, versatile bass sample library with intuitive mapping and easy-to-mix tone. Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition is the culmination of our efforts and the suggestions of our customers.

The DI tone of this library is thick and full, but sits well in any mix. The built-in scripted interface has a three-band EQ customized for sweet spots, allowing the user to customize the tone further combined with the built-in compression, amp and limiter. These features enable Shreddage Bass: PE to be used for not just rock & metal, but dance, pop, jazz, funk, disco and everything in between. We covered all the vital articulations in our usual depth: open notes, mutes, staccatos, hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides were recorded with up to 8x round robins (up and down strokes) plus three dynamic layers.

Despite having over 2,000 samples and a wealth of possible playing styles, Shreddage Bass: PE is easy to use with a left hand/right hand mapping style that does not require keyswitches, MIDI CCs or pedal control. Plus, the scripting engine, which supports things like customizable legato, anti-repetition, automatic octaves and a downstrokes-only mode, is not CPU-intensive making this instrument light on resources but not on tone!

Shreddage Bass: Picked Edition for Kontakt 4+ is available to purchase for $59 USD. Through December 2011, existing Shreddage users can crossgrade for $39 USD.

New users can purchase the library as part of a bundle that includes both original Shreddage libraries plus our Acoustic Revolutions volume 1 acoustic guitar collection for $99 USD until December 31, 2011.

Impact Soundworks partners with Peavey, ReValver HPse now included with Shreddage

Impact Soundworks has announced a partnership with Peavey Electronics to bundle a custom version of Peavey’s award-winning ReValver amp sim plugin with the critically-acclaimed Shreddage sample library.

Impact Soundworks Shreddage

Ever since we first designed and released Shreddage, the goal was to make it as easy as possible for people to amp the DI samples and get a great, thick rock/metal tone right out of the box. But while we previously included presets for popular amp sims, it was still a little tricky to get a killer sound without some tweaking. Now, we’ve made the process as easy as possible with ReValver HPse, which includes two popular Peavey amps and poweramps plus an assortment of stompboxes, effects and other tools.

The plugin, which is available as a free update to all Shreddage users and will come with all new purchases of the library, also includes presets designed JUST for our library. To see how simple it is to get an amazing double-tracked tone with Shreddage X and ReValver HPse, just check out this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03fbxV8X-As

ReValver HPse is available as a free download for registered users Shreddage. Upgrades from ReValver HPse are available to Shreddage users for ReValver HP ($30 USD), and ReValver MKIII.V ($199 USD).
