J1000 Alpha / Beta

J1000 has released version 3.7 of Alpha and Beta, two free equalizer effect plug-ins for Windows.

Basically, they are just regular equalizers made according to my ideas how should they look like and react. The main focus was on their functionallity, versatility and usability.

Changes in Alpha / Beta v3.7

  • Different frequency range selectors, for quicker operation and better visual feedback.
  • Five selectable Q factors that cover same bandwidth as before.
  • All filters do not consume CPU when they’re at 0dB and turned on.
  • [Alpha] Low-frequency compressor/saturator that produces smooth bass response.
  • [Alpha] Removed exciter, to reduce CPU needs, since there are many better solutions for harmonic enhancement available as separate plugins.
  • [Alpha] Four highpass frequencies for mid channel (18, 24, 32 and 40Hz) and continuous adjustment for side channel with 6dB/oct slope.
  • [Alpha] High-frequency tweak at 14kHz for loudness curve.
  • [Alpha] Temporary bypass switch for tilt control.
  • [Alpha] Better implementation of stereo width control.
  • [Alpha] Label “monitor” flashes when incomplete signal is being monitored.
  • [Beta] Continuous central frequency selection for tilt module with wider range of operation.
  • [Beta] Four Q factors for highpass and lowpass filters.
  • [Beta] Better saturation mode that leaves higher frequencies (“air”) intact.

Alpha and Beta are available as freeware VST effect plug-ins for Windows PC.

J1000 Alpha

J1000 has released version 3.6 of Alpha and Beta, two free equalizer effect plug-ins for Windows.

ALPHA is an equalizer made primarily for mastering and sub-mixes. It separates stereo into mid and side signals and allows you independent equalization over both of them. BETA is similar in functionality to Alpha, but adapted to mixing needs.

Changes in Alpha and Beta v3.6

  • Stereo width control and correlation meter (Alpha).
  • Simplified tilt control (Alpha).
  • Shelf filters now work both for boosting and cutting, with +/-6dB operating range (Beta).
  • Auto-solo mode also previews cutting frequencies on HP&LP filters (Beta).
  • Small cosmetic changes on both GUIs for better legibility.

Alpha and Beta are available to download as VST effect plug-ins for Windows PC.

J1000 Gamma and Delta, free plug-ins updated to v2.0

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Sep 21, 2010 - comment 0 comments

J1000 VST Plugins has released version 2.0 of Gamma and Delta, two free equalizer effect plug-ins for Windows.

J1000 Gamma
J1000 Gamma – equalizer based on equal loudness contour

J1000 GAMMA is equalizer intended primarily for mastering, probably first of it’s kind. It is based on Fletcher-Munson curve, allowing you only to accent the parts of audio spectrum where ear is less sensitive and lower the ones where ear is more sensitive. Six faders control gain amounts of six corresponding peak filters. Each filter has fixed Q factor and few selectable central frequencies, except for the last one (labeled F) which is permanently set at 12.8kHz. On the right part of interface there is master multiply fader which controls total amount of EQ-ing applied, HP and LP filter switches, clip indicator and simple button for reducing input signal by 3dB. Beware – this plugin is tempting to be overused.

J1000 Delta
J1000 Delta – macroscale mixing equalizer

J1000 DELTA is mixing equalizer with a twist. It shares the same HP/LP and output section as Beta. The obvious differnce is the way Delta handles audio via it’s tilt and concurve modules. Actually, they are just pairs of filters that are set to work parallely. In case of tilt when one filter goes up, other goes down. Since their central frequencies are far apart, it results in spectrum tilting. In case of concurve, which name derives from convex/concave curve, both filters react the same way, so when you move [C] fader up the spectrum “smiles”, and when you move it down it “frowns”. Loudness difference is automatically compensated. Both modules offer three selectable curve modes. Switches labeled diametric flip left channel processing for each module, so you get diametrically opposite responses for left and right channel. Therefore, Delta can be used instead of classic panning controls for greater creativity regarding stereo image.

Changes in Gamma and Delta v2.0

  • Numerical readouts for all faders.
  • Better graphics.
  • Optimized CPU usage.
  • Gamma: Precise HP and LP filters.
  • Delta: Three selectable curve modes for Tilt and Concurve.
  • Delta: Diametric switches for opposite EQ processing of left and right channels.
  • Delta: Resonance switches for HP and LP filters.
  • Delta: Filter module added, same as in Beta.

J1000 Gamma and Delta are available to download as freeware VST effect plug-ins for Windows.

J1000 VST Plugins

J1000 has released a series of equalizer plug-in effects for Windows.

In terms of digital sound processing these VST plugins are pretty simple and straight-forward. They don’t possess any magical properties that will make sound better just by passing through them. They don’t emulate vintage studio gear, do not produce “warm and musical analog sound” (whatever that means) and certainly won’t make you the next Phil Spector. They don’t deliberately introduce distortion of any kind, like saturation or compression, only slight phase non-linearities. They are just regular equalizers made according to my ideas how should they look like and react.

J1000 VST Plugins

  • J1000 ALPHA — parametric mid/side mastering equalizer.
  • J1000 BETA — parametric mixing equalizer.
  • J1000 GAMMA — mastering equalizer based on equal loudness contour.
  • J1000 DELTA — mixing equalizer with macroscale controls.

The J1000 plug-ins are available as freeware VST effects for Windows PC.
