Sound Dust releases Modular Chaos Engine libraries Found & Evolved

Sound Dust has announced the release of Modular Chaos Engine #1 – Found and Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved, two instrument libraries for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Sound Dust Modular Chaos Engine #1 - Found

For the past 10 years or so I’ve always carried some kind of portable recording device and a pair of OKM in ear microphones around with me and kept a kind of aural diary of great sounding things and great sounding places. I’ve made literally gazillions of recordings in places all over this side of the world, and like most diaries these recordings have mainly been sitting in dark cupboards waiting for someone to rediscover them…

The Modular Chaos Engine is the perfect repository for 785 of them. I’ve selected the most usefully percussive, clangy, bangy, thumpy, boomy, itchy, scratchy, thwacky and whacky, added a really powerful sequencing engine and made a “found sound” drum machine.

Modular Chaos Engine #1 – Found features

  • 785 individual samples ( including up to 20 variations of each sound) mapped to 12 sample engines from C1 upwards.
  • 160mb download.
  • 12 complex 12 track sequencers triggered from keys C0 and above (adjustable).
  • The Chaos button for instant randomisation.
  • The Order button for an instant return to normality.
  • Comprehensive editing with quick edit system for control of all sounds together, or indivual editing of tune, time, low pass filter, high pass filter, attack, decay and volume.
  • Individual per engine articulation controls.
  • Separate sequence tracks for sound selection, accent, decay, pan and tuning per note.
  • Chaotic “looper” control with 32 looping algorithms.
  • All controls midi learnable.
  • Inbuilt instruction manual.

“Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved” features a fully electronic instrument.

Sound Dust Modular Chaos Engine #2 - Evolved

Its probably no secret that this time i’ve exploited the strange and rather wonderful qualities of Dave Smiths’ criminally underated analog/digital masterpiece the Evolver. I LOVE this underdog synth because it has so much wonky personality and a wonderful architecture that can produce some really great sounds….usually of a slightly boisterous nature.

So, for this Chaos Engine there are up to 127 different sounds/articulations per key which are very loosely mapped across the keys from from low kick drum type sounds through snappy snare type sounds up to more clicky, rattly hats and then the mildly melodic sounds up near the top end of the key range.

Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved features

  • 1106 individual samples ( including up to 20 variations of each sound) mapped to 12 sample engines from C1 upwards.
  • 283mb download.

The sample libraries are available for purchase for £20 GBP each, or bundled for £35 GBP.

ProjectSAM releases 2014 Edition Updates for Symphobia 1 and Symphobia 2 + Summer Sale

ProjectSAM has announced the release of the 2014 Edition Updates for Symphobia 1 and Symphobia 2, a free update for all registered Symphobia 1 and 2 users.

ProjectSAM Symphobia

Changes in 2014 Edition Updates

  • Microphone mixing — Symphobia 1.4 allows you to mix the two available microphone sets in realtime. This can be done individually, using the vertical mic faders, or together, using the horizontal cross fade slider. This slider smoothly morphs between a close and a stage mix.
  • Individual control over articulations — Symphobia groups multiple articulations in each instrument file. In previous versions, these articulations could be switched using keyswitches and played one at a time. Symphobia 1.4 allows you to independently toggle and mix articulations.
  • Toggling articulations — Click an articulation name to toggle between activating and deactivating it. This way you can easily combine multiple articulations and perform them together.
  • MIDI toggle keys — You can also use MIDI toggle keys to activate and deactivate articulations.
  • Reset toggles — To reset the articulation toggles to their default state (first one activated, others deactivated) click reset toggles. You can also reset toggles by using the assigned MIDI key.
  • Purging — By default, all articulations are loaded into memory, regardless of whether they are activated or deactivated using the toggles. This way, toggling articulations works instantaneously. To save memory, you can unload articulations.

ProjectSAM has also launched a limited time Summer Sale.

Paper Stone Instruments releases free Bounce for Kontakt

Paper Stone Instruments has announced the release of Bounce, a free instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Paper Stone Instruments Bounce

‘Bounce’ is one of the most unique elements of ‘Creative Junk’ our organic percussion suite, created from everyday objects that were carefully selected for their tone and character.

Exercise balls, basket balls, table tennis balls, footballs and others were recorded using 3 mic positions in our Cinematic live room.

The fun begins by switching ‘Global’ to ‘Local’, which allows each note to be sculpted individually, meaning each bounce can have it’s own mic position/level, pitch, pan and filter setting.

If you enjoy this freebie, please check out the full ‘Creative Junk’ collection where you will find a goldmine of unique hits, quirky transients and inspirational tones sub divided into the following nkis: Gamelan, Kit, Industrial, Jugs, Bottles, Transients, Foley.

Rhythmic Robot releases Cloud Chamber for Kontakt

Rhythmic Robot has announced the release of Cloud Chamber, a hybrid synthesizer instrument for Kontakt, based around samples of three kinds of acoustic wind instruments, wired to a “Sine Bank” of 8-bit sine waves pitched to the harmonic series.

Rhythmic Robot Cloud Chamber

The acoustic samples include Pipes (clean penny-whistle type tones with a small attack chiff), Flasks (blown bottle tones with a pronounced overblow in the attack) and Rotors (wind-wand “bullroarer” tones with a slow ramp-up attack and pronounced periodic tremolo). These can be played with their characterful attack portions switched in or out; with the attack removed, the sounds lend themselves to more abstract sound design, or you can graft acoustic attacks onto synthetic sustains created with the Sine Bank.

Cloud Chamber excels at creating strange, ethereal tones and textures with the sonic fingerprint of acoustic sources; “unreal” instruments that nevertheless sound like they should be real; and complex, varying, evolving soundscapes that conjure up steampunk-style futures, windy mountain peaks, industrial piston chambers, sussurating cave mouths, and a thousand other uniquely characterful locations. Whether you want a hissing pad from the Victorian steam age for an electronic track or a convincing Troll flute hewn from a solid tree-trunk for your fantasy soundtrack, Cloud Chamber can dial it up for you :D

It includes our Glitch control which randomises the controls in a musically intelligent manner for instant inspiration, several effects tailored to the wind-based tonality of the instrument, and a factory patch library of 30 starting points for your sonic adventures.

Cloud Chamber is available for purchase for the introductory price of £13.45 GBP (regular £14.95 GBP). Requires Kontakt version 4.2.3 or later, full version.

Time+Space introduces Impact Designer by Zero-G

Time+Space has announced Impact Designer, a virtual instrument library that allows you to create your own epic SFX.

Zero-G Impact Designer

Zero-G have once again joined forces with Dan Graham (Animato, Spiritoso, Luminso, Perpetuo) to release ‘Impact Designer’.

Create your own unique hits, bangs, epic slams, booms, whacks and more with this brand new collection for Kontakt which, thanks to a high level of customisation options, gives you over 15 million possible variations!

Under the hood there are 3 dynamic velocity layers and 3 round robins for each sound so it all stays nicely organic-sounding without a machine-gun effect of repeat sample-triggering.

Every Impact is made up of 3 elements – HIT, BOOM and DECAY. Respectively, these 3 elements are the attack, the body of the hit and the long release. The Impact Designer instrument quickly crossfades between the 3 different sounds in order to produce sonic complexity and a very wide range of possible variations. There is also a Pre-Hit function which is a reverse sound that can give your Impact an impressive thwack.
Of course, there are times when you simply need epic sounds in an instant, so why not take your pick from the collection of 90 presets – some of which were created by The Unfinished’s Matt Bowdler.

The library is available for the introductory price of £54.95 GBP until Friday 11th June (regular £69.95 GBP).
