Diego Callegari of DCSI has announced Badass, a free sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
It’s an original old school synth bass, with some optional gritty flavour, sampled, edited and spread across almost 3 octaves of your midi keyboard.
Has round robin, velocity sensitivity, several playing modes such as Mono, Unisono and Portamento, a delay effect and filtering options.
The modwheel use add some dirtiness and blur and an additional brightness switch helps the job.

Sonokinetic has announced the release of Güzin, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt featuring female Turkish vocal performances.
We have worked with Miss Güzin Degismez before, in our very first vocal library ‘Tigris and Euphrates’ and have been in contact with her about doing another project ever since.
As no other, Ms Degismez knows how to blend the traditional music of her culture into cinematic atmospheres that instantly invoke emotion and lively imagery. For this project, we recorded all new material, based on ‘moods’ and, in contrast to Tigris and Euphrates, these are all tempo synced and we’ve recorded all material in two tempi, to be able to employ our ITM tempo mapping system, making sure the recordings will always stay within acceptable stretch ranges. Of course, you can turn off ITM if you’re looking for that overstretched sound as an effect.
All is recorded in Istanbul by our trusted producer Ceyda Pirali, who played live percussion during the recording session to accompany the mood and set the stage for Güzin to perform freely and without the robotic constriction of a clicktrack, while still providing us with tempo sync-able material.
- Kontakt 4 & Kontakt 5 patch spanning 6 different moods, each in two recorded tempi.
- Automatic BPM group selecting (HOST slave).
- Tempo synced by time machine.
- Use of Sonokinetic Intelligent Time Machine functionality.
- Kontakt 5 with Timemachine Pro settings (64Bit).
- 3400+ samples. (1,36 GB sample content).
- all samples is 24 Bit 44.1 kHz AIFF format.
- Royalty and copyright free.
The library is available to purchase for 49.90 EUR. Requires full version of Kontakt (Kontakt Player not supported).

Atom Hub has announced version 2.0 of the Old Mandolin virtual instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Old Mandolin includes a new GUI for operating a number of useful effects.
Although it was not sampled again from scratch like Toolshed, about 80 MB of new material were newly sampled. More samples have been effected outside Kontakt to provide more sonic colors to the library. So now it contains “mandolinish” pads, kind of organs, e-pianos, softer, tonal, atonal FX patches.
I found this mandolin good at resembling another stringed instruments – koto, kalimba, cemballo, cimbalom, harp… those instruments will come up in your mind when scrolling through the new patches. Also, the initial basic patches have been improved, repositioned on some tones, tuned properly to give the mandolin and to you more options.
Old Mandolin features
- 16-24 bit / 44,1 kHz.
- 260 MB installed.
- 81 nki files (374 wav files) in 7 categories.
- up to 3 RR variations.
- Mandolin with its flaws and imperfections.
- Knocks, hits, percussive sounds.
- Basic mandolin patches.
- Extra FX patches ranging from experimental to calming and ethereal ones.
- Not a mandolin in traditional sense.
The library is available to purchase for 15 EUR. Existing customers of Old Mandolin can get the updated version for 5 EUR.

Orange Tree Samples has launched Pure Jazz Vibes, a virtual vibraphone instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
We developed Pure Jazz Vibes in collaboration with Chris Poehler of Lujon Audio, who arranged and oversaw the entire sample recording as well as contributing his invaluable expertise to the production of the sample library itself. One of our top priorities for Pure Jazz Vibes was getting a pristine, yet natural vibraphone tone. We auditioned several vibraphones, finally selecting a 70′s Musser Century Vibraphone due to its classic, warm tone. The Musser vibraphone is a legendary instrument, extensively used by vibraphone masters such as Gary Burton, Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Mike Mainieri, and many others.
The vibraphone recording session was engineered by Michael Aarvold at the WaterSound Productions studio in the heart of Studio City, California. Regarding the choice of WaterSound’s studio to record the vibraphone samples, Michael says, “It has an exceptionally well-designed live room: the room maintains life and air in the sound, yet doesn’t superimpose a distinctive and undesirable sonic signature. It is also extremely quiet, which is very important when recording delicate textures and maintaining a room aspect to the sound.”
Pure Jazz Vibes features
- Over 8 GB total 24-bit 48khz samples (uncompressed).
- 4 dynamic layers, up to 7x round-robin, chromatically sampled.
- Separately controllable close, mid, and far mic positions.
- Modeled tremolo with adjustable speed and depth.
The sample library is available to purchase for the introductory price of $99 USD until February 28th, 2014 (regular $129 USD).
