Laptoprockers announces Eat Static Remix Contest

Laptoprockers Eat Static Remix Contest

Laptoprockers has announced a Remix Contest with Psytrance pioneers Eat Static.

Featuring a drum & bass track, a rock ballad and a synth-pop song in previous remix contests, this time Laptoprockers have joined forces with pioneers of psytrance ‘Eat Static’ to offer remixers two great tracks to play around with. ‘Sin Quest’ is an upbeat dance track with a classic psytrance feel, while ‘Up Periscope’ explores the more downtempo psychedelic avenues. The tracks are off Eat Static’s two most recent albums, De-Classified and Back To Earth.

“Both tracks unmistakeably carry Eat Static’s signature sound and make up for great remix material,” Laptoprockers said. “And as it is the first time Eat Static source material is available from the Internet in a remix contest, this unique opportunity caters for something extra. We’ll have winners for each remix track, and the best overall remix will get a very special bonus.”

As on earlier occasions, Laptoprockers offer a generous prize pool for this remix contest. LinPlug donated six of their best plug-in synthesizers for you to win! “Three prizes for each remix track is only adequate,” LinPlug commented on their contribution, “so each track will have three separate winners.” Prizes include LinPlug’s all in one drum solution RMV, their sample mangling plug-in ChronoX, and FM Synth Octopus and represent over $900 total value.

But there’s more at stake! The icing on the cake comes with a bonus for the best remixer overall. “We definitely will be able to release the best remix,” Eat Static’s Merv Pepler revealed, “we have several options in the coming months for that.” Need say more?

The contest deadline is January 02, 2010.

Laptoprockers announces Dead Confederate “The Rat” Remix Contest

Dead Confederate

Laptoprockers has announced “The Rat” remix contest, featuring a track by one of America’s hottest new rock bands: Dead Confederate.

Originally a high school band, Dead Confederate is spreading a new breed of dark, raw, mind-blowing psych-rock from their Athens based headquarters. “As much as we have a love for electronic music and good remixes, we aren’t exactly skilled at it. This is where you come in. We want to hear your best remix of The Rat. Take as much or as little liberty with it as you want. No style is off limits. Be bold and make it your own.”

The Rat is the first single off Dead Confederate’s highly acclaimed 2008 debut album “Wrecking Ball.”

With their previous contests Laptoprockers started making waves as a serious remix contest website. “We’re always looking for tracks with an edge. We had a synth-pop track featuring an original Kraftwerk member in our last contest, and a track by a Drum and Bass legend before that. So we thought a Rock track would be a nice next challenge for remixers. The Rat is has a lot of remix potential. We’re proud to have Dead Confederate on board.”

Submit your entry before the deadline of June 21st, 2009 for a chance to win one of the three Rob Papen virtual synths in the prize pot. Dead Confederate, contest contestants and Laptoprockers will each choose one winners.

Laptoprockers announces Remix Contest: Kraftwerk Meets Human League

Laptoprockers: Empire State Human

Laptoprockers — a webzine about music and related technology, featuring daily news and interviews – with a strong focus towards remixing — has announced a unique remix contest with vocals and beats supplied by one of Kraftwerk’s original members.

In collaboration with Irish electro-pop band Empire State Human and their label Ninthwave Records, the Laptoprockers website is offering the track ‘Melancholic Afro’ for remixing. The track features Wolfgang Flür, who was a member of the original ’70s Kraftwerk line-up.

Lead singer of the band, Aidan Casserly, explains, “Wolfgang Flür created the backbeats and some catchy vocal lines for the track. Other than that it has a Prodigy feel as well as a T-Rex feel.”

Empire State Human is the first band from Ireland who worked with a former Kraftwerk member. “We still can’t believe our luck, and are curious what remixers will come up with. We’re looking for exciting and unique entries which will expand the original track into another music direction and level,” continues Casserly.

The prize pool for this contest is filled with some top notch plug-ins supplied by Izotope, makers of the highly acclaimed ‘Ozone’ mastering plug-in.

Entries are welcome till the end of February.
