BOSS has announced the RC-1 Loop Station, a new entry-level model in the company’s acclaimed lineup of dedicated loop recording devices.

BOSS RC-1 Loop Station

Battery-powered and affordable, the RC-1’s straightforward operation makes it easier than ever for guitarists, bassists, and other musicians to incorporate the fun of looping into their live performances and practice sessions.

For well over a decade, BOSS has led the industry in loop recording technology. Five current Loop Station products serve the needs of all types of musicians, and looping functions are integrated into many other BOSS products as well. Designed with guitarists and bassists in mind, the RC-1 sheds the more sophisticated features found in other Loop Stations, offering a streamlined approach that will appeal to both beginning players and advanced musicians who like to keep things simple.

Built to record loops and nothing else, the RC-1 is all about instant musical satisfaction and creative enjoyment. Housed in the famous, ultra-durable BOSS compact pedal case, the stripped-down RC-1 lets players experience the fun of spontaneous loop creation with no complicated controls or features to get in the way.

RC-1 features

  • Straightforward and easy to operate.
  • Newly designed loop indicator displays the current loop mode (Rec/Overdub/Play).
  • Runs on a single 9-volt alkaline battery (approximately 4.5 hours of battery life).
  • Can be used with an optional AC adaptor (PSA series: sold separately).
  • 12 minutes of stereo recording time.
  • Stereo inputs and outputs.
  • Flexible external footswitch options.
  • Recorded phrase is retained in memory even after the RC-1 is turned off.

Giada aims to be a compact and portable virtual device for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows for production use and live sets.

Changes in Giada v0.9

  • New full-screen GUI.
  • Multi-column support.
  • Advanced logging system.
  • Upgrade to RtAudio 4.1.1 and RtMidi 2.1.0.

  • ‘Clear all samples’ destroys channels (fixed).
  • ‘Free channel’ messes up loop / mute buttons (fixed).
  • Fix potential recordings with odd frames.

ToneCarver releases Regen looper plugin

ToneCarver has released Regen, a free looper plugin developed for the KVR Developer Challenge 2014.

ToneCarver Regen

Regen is at its heart a looper plugin (a la Frippertronics) that is well suited for ambient/textural/soundscape type layering. It can be a simple looper but also offers deeper dive controls to modify playback of recorded material.

It features four independent loopers (“tracks”) that are built up from individually recorded audio segments (“layers”). Recorded material in the layers and tracks can be manipulated (playback rate, direction, blend, pan, level, start offset) post-recording for creative playback. Regen accepts stereo input and supports up to 4 stereo outputs. Regen allows Undo and Redo of recorded material and supports control via MIDI.

The plug-in is available to download for Windows (VST).

BluGuitar introduces Amp1 guitar amplifier

BluGuitar has announced Amp1, a new analogue guitar amp unit.

BluGuitar Amp1
The Amp1 by Thomas Blug, renowned guitarist and official “Strat King of Europe”.

Amp1 is a fully analogue guitar amp with four channels amplified by a newly designed 100-watt Class D tube power amp. The amp sets new standards in terms of power, vitality, responsiveness and genuinely analogue output stage behaviour – the only Class D power amp to offer a PowerSoak. Amp1 features a Clean Channel and three Overdrive channels. Each of the four channels can be supplemented with an extra portion of gain via the built-in Boost control. Thanks to Amp1’s unique Custom Controls, guitarists can even customise the responsiveness and tonal character of each of the four channels to their own personal needs in order to maximise their individual tone.

Amp1 is perfect for use without a loudspeaker, just with headphones or for “Silent Recording”. You can use Amp1 like an amp head on top of your cab, connect it up to your effects board and stompboxes, or simply use it like an FX pedal on the floor in front of you. Amp1’s three footswitches let you select between the Clean/Vintage/Classic/Modern channels, with Boost and Reverb settings either on or off.

With Amp1 it’s possible to build a complete 100-watt guitar amp and effects setup on a single pedalboard for the first time ever. This will really help reduce the amount of cabling guitarists will need to use, which not only benefits their tone, but will also save the pro player an awful lot of time with assembly and clear-up before and after the gig.

Amp1 & Remote1

Using the optional Remote1 foot pedal, all of Amp1’s functions can be directly selected via 9 switches. These settings can be stored as presets. There are 4 Banks with 9 Presets available. Consistent with the Presets, Remote1’s MIDI out can be used to switch programmes on external MIDI-capable effect devices.

Alternatively, the optional MIDI1 Adapter allows players to control Amp1 with their own favourite MIDI foot pedals. For players who want to integrate their favourite FX pedals into the Amp1 guitar system, the optional Looper-Kit extension (featuring four true bypass relay loops) is available, making pedalboard tap dancing and sound loss a thing of the past.

BluGuitar Amp1 is available in stores from June 2014, priced at RRP 649 EUR. BluGuitar Remote1 retails at 349 EUR; BluGuitar Looper-Kit is 249 EUR, and the BluGuitar MIDI1 Adapter costs 49 EUR.

The Amp1 guitar amplifier system and the 61 Masterbuilt electric guitar are introduced at Musikmesse 2014, in Hall 4.0, Stand H10.

DigiTech JamMan Express XT

DigiTech has announced that the JamMan Express XT compact stereo looper/phrase sampler is now shipping.

The size of a standard stompbox, JamMan Express XT offers a host of capabilities including up to 10 minutes of stereo looping time and DigiTech’s exclusive JamSync feature for synchronizing multiple JamMan pedals.

The JamMan Express XT is ideal for use with guitar, bass, keyboards and other instruments. It provides up to 10 minutes of stereo looping time. Its control layout is simple yet incredibly versatile – a single pedal switch, three Record, Dub and Play LEDs and a Loop Level knob provide access to a multitude of looping functions.

“We designed the JamMan Express XT to offer players great value as the most user-friendly and compact looping pedal available,” said Scott Klimt, marketing manager, DigiTech. “Whether you want to record loops and rhythm tracks for playing along with, create sonic backgrounds for solo or band performances or sample loops and phrases to drop into your recordings the JamMan Express XT is designed to do it all.”

All loop recording, playback and loop overdubbing can be controlled simply by clicking on the pedal switch. The three LEDs indicate looping and phrase sampling status – red for record, green for playback and yellow for overdubbing. This simple but effective looping scheme has been standard on single-button JamMan loopers for years to create lush, richly textured loops or multiple instrumental parts for a one-person-band backing track.

The pedal’s JamSync feature enables the JamMan Express XT to be synchronized with other JamSync-enabled pedals to create multi-track loops or play loops with other musicians. Simply connect the pedals via their 1/8-inch mini jacks. Multiple JamMan pedals can be cascaded together with one JamMan acting as a master for all synched slaves.

The JamMan Express XT is available to purchase for MSRP $149.95 USD.
