de la Mancha sets free unstable pitch modulation effect

de la Mancha has announced that its unstable pitch modulation effect plug-in is now available as freeware.

de la Mancha unstable

unstable likes to mess around with your audio pitch, with 3 subtle pitch modulation modes to simulate the unpredictable but lovable pitch instability of an old tape machine or an analogue synth.

It doesn’t only do subtle though, you can also put it in ‘insane’ mode if you’d rather just FSU

The plug-in is available as freeware for Windows (VST).

Audio Poison releases Strontium-90 RF Modulator for Reason

Related: , , , Posted in news on Jun 16, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Audio Poison has announced the release of Strontium-90, radio frequency modulator effect for Reason.

Audio Poison Strontium-90

Strontium-90 RF Modulator is a rack extension designed to make sounds more radioactive by adding modulatable textures and thickness to a sound. It can be used to highlight the upper components of percussion, or radiate a bass line with amplitude, phase, frequency and ring modulators.

The radio frequency modulators can be routed with either invertible post-or-combined filtering with variable series/parallel switching. It also includes both an optionally host-synchronizable, or loosely timed, envelope and low frequency oscillator, common to musical synthesis, to allow a user to further extend their sound. The VCO of these modulation controls can be sent, in parallel, to all of the multi-variate control knobs pertaining to both the RF modulator and internal filter.

Additionally the low frequency oscillator has both host-synchronized rate and phase positioning controls with a preference as to whether it oscillates with either half-rectified, bipolar or unipolar waveforms. The phase control is truncated into steps of pi/4 increments (-/+), and will always automatically reset every instance where the current project position resets to the left region indicator to absolutely ensure the consistency of the timing for the modulation controls.

Strontium-90 is available for purchase for $39 USD.

J74 releases StepLocker sequencing & modulation for Max for Live

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 27, 2014 - comment 0 comments

J74 has announced StepLocker, a new Max for Live sequencing and modulation device.

J74 StepLocker
StepLocker is based on the concept of parameter locking, whereby parameter settings can be associated (locked) to sequencer steps.

Besides the concept of it, one of the things I really tried to get right on this is the workflow. So in StepLocker parameter locking is very simple: Choose one or more steps in the sequencer, select a parameter in Ableton Live, set its value and lock it. You can do this for any parameter, in any device, in any track of Live.

On top of this I equipped StepLocker with classic step sequencer features, such as playback manipulation (step numbers, random step order, step lenght), value interpolation, value randomization and (post-locking) editing (such as copy, paste, erase).

StepLocker features

  • Up to 64 steps modulator with parameter locks for any parameter, in any device, in any track of Ableton Live.
  • Intuitive user interface based on simple actions: just click, set, lock and sequence. No routing or long menu’s involved.
  • Different modulation styles (Impulse/Hold, Gliding).
  • Real time sequencing controls: free step number count, step duration, random playback order.
  • Post-locking editing features: free editing of every recorded lock, randomization, shift values up/down, mute values, copy and paste sections.
  • Possibility of recording the modulation as Session clip automation or Arrangement automation.
  • Device state saved with the Ableton Live project.

The StepLocker device is available for $12 USD. Requires Live 9 or higher and Max 6.1 or higher.

Arturia launches MiniBrute SE analog synthesizer

Related: , , , , , , , Posted in news on Mar 12, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Arturia has announced the MiniBrute SE, a ‘special edition’ of its analogue mono synthesizer.

Arturia MiniBrute SE

Arturia’s red-hot MiniBrute Analog Synthesizer set the electronic musical instrument world alight immediately upon its introduction in 2012. Indeed, it rapidly reset the price/performance ratio benchmark when successfully soaring through the subtractive synthesis sound barrier while singlehandedly setting a new standard for what a hardware synthesizer should be.

Hot on its heels comes a ‘special edition’ that is very special indeed. MiniBrute SE shares the same physical footprint as the original MiniBrute, but builds upon this amazingly compact and bijou analogue monosynth in both looks and features.

Although a sturdy and stylish brushed aluminium casing with wooden sides surely make MiniBrute SE stand out from the analogue crowd, skin-deep good looks are not the be and end all here, however, as added functionality runs deeper still.

An all-new step SEQUENCER elegantly expands playing options with the MiniBrute SE — six Pattern sequences with up to 64 steps each to create multiple musical phrases, to be precise. Yet it is capable of so much more than simply replaying pre- programmed Pattern sequences ad infinitum. Users can create new musical phrases from existing ones by changing the playback Mode, Gate Len (timing), and Swing settings in realtime from the clearly labelled front panel — perfect for inspiring new musical ideas and creating exciting live performances on the fly.

MiniBrute SE is proof positive that the original MiniBrute was no fly-by-night success story. A pure analogue signal path and attractive features like a multi-wave OSCILLATOR and Sub Osc combined with a huge-sounding Steiner-Parker multimode FILTER (fittingly revised by Nyle Steiner himself) and wide-ranging modulation capabilities confirm that MiniBrute SE continues to innovate while breathing new life into recordings and stage performances.

Add fantastic features like Ultrasaw (generating shimmering sawtooth waveforms), Metalizer (adding extreme triangle waveform-induced harmonics), LFO (with sample and hold), and full USB/MIDI/CV connectivity into the musical mix, and what have you got? A killer-sounding, step sequencing-capable synth with looks to die for, that’s what!

MiniBrute SE will be available to purchase at the end of May, 2014, priced at 549 EUR / $599 USD.
