Robert Tubb releases The Wablet – Scanned Synthesis on a Multi-touch Interface

Robert Tubb has released The Wablet app, a physics based synthesiser and noise toy.

Robert Tubb The Wablet

An animated mesh of springs can be vibrated with the fingers. The Mesh’s displacement around a path on this mesh is read as an audio waveform, and hence your gestures are turned into sound.

Complex evolving drones, chiptunes bleeps or full on noise can be produced, and beautiful undulating patterns created.

The physical properties of the mesh can be changed using the sliders, new sound-paths can be drawn onto the Mesh and the App comes with a Max/MSP patch for wireless MIDI control and more in depth adjustable parameters.

The Wablet is available to purchase for 0.89 EUR. Note: the app is currently not available in the US because of a patent on the underlying algorithm.

Holderness Media Echo Pad

Holderness Media has released Echo Pad, a real-time echo effect processor for iOS, featuring a unique delay and sound on sound looper controlled by a multi-touch XY interface.

Use the built in mic on your headphones, plug in a guitar, microphone, synth, drum machine, iOS device, or whatever you want using an audio interface such as the Apogee Jam or MIC, or one of the many other compatible iOS and USB audio interfaces. (Verified up to date list of compatible audio interfaces below.)

Echo Pad was born out of love for tape echoes, sound on sound loopers and noisy, dirty analog delay pedals. Echo Pad excels at hands on warping delay tones and controlled feedback, and is not afraid to get loud.

The app is available to purchase for the introductory price of $2.99 USD.

Livid and Liine launch Hybrid Control + win custom Hybrid Setup in contest

Livid and Liine have announced the Hybrid Control Contest, a chance to win a hybrid setup.

Liine’s Grid and Livid Instruments’ Code join hands with Hybrid Control for Ableton Live.

Livid and Liine have teamed up to create truly unique Ableton Live control experience. Griid and Code can now be linked as a single controller. This hybrid concept is an innovative combination of multitouch and hardware.

They’ve put this approach into practice when building custom solutions for artists such as Orbital, Plastikman or Avril Lavigne’s keyboardist Steve Ferlazzo. And now, if you are a Griid and Livid Code owner, you can experience the power of hybrid control yourself.

Hybrid Control features

  • Four modes for Code: Mixer, EQ, Devices (x2).
  • Code track selection from Griid.
  • Griid navigation synced in Code.
  • Revised scripts for Ableton Live.

Hybrid Control is included with Griid (as of version 1.14.6).

Borderlands audiovisual granular synth instrument by Chris Carlson

Chris Carlson is working on an iPad version of Borderlands, an interactive granular sampler instrument.

Demo video for the soon-to-be-released interactive granular sampler: Borderlands

This project is a mobile version of an audiovisual granular synthesis instrument that I built as my final project for Music 256a at CCRMA. The inspiration behind the original version along with early concept sketches and design details are presented here .

While the laptop version provides a large canvas and a great deal of RAM for audio files, the iPad’s multitouch capabilities offer a much richer interactive experience. I extended the instrument to take advantage of these resources and added a social/networking component to allow users to share their “scenes” and download the work of others.

Chris aims to have Borderlands for iPad available through the App Store by late spring 2012.
