Sonnet announces Dual-Port 10GBase-T Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

Sonnet Technologies has announced the Twin 10G Thunderbolt 2 to Dual-Port Copper 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Adapter, a near-plug-and-play solution for adding lightning-fast 10GbE network connectivity to any computer with Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt ports.

Sonnet Twin-G

Featuring 20Gbps Thunderbolt 2 technology, the Twin 10G enables users to connect to high-speed infrastructure and storage systems using the 10GbE standard — offering up to 10 times the performance of Gigabit Ethernet, the common wired network connection included with most computers today. Support for Wake-on-LAN and other advanced features make this Sonnet adapter suitable for use in a variety of workflows and environments.

“As prices for 10GbE infrastructure continue to drop, data centers and many other businesses are increasingly adopting this fast standard for wired networking and specialized applications, such as HD video editing using high-performance shared storage systems. Yet few computers offer a 10GbE interface,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “Our new Twin 10G dual-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Thunderbolt 2 adapter provides users with a powerfully simple and cost-effective way to add fast 10GbE connectivity to their notebooks, laptops, or desktops.”

Thunderbolt-certified for Mac® and Windows®, Sonnet’s Twin 10G is equipped with two RJ45 and two Thunderbolt 2 ports. Using RJ45 connectors, the Twin 10G is able to connect to 10 Gigabit infrastructure via inexpensive CAT-6 or CAT-6A copper cabling at distances up to 55 or 100 meters, respectively. Through one of its two Thunderbolt 2 ports, the Twin 10G connects to the computer through an included Thunderbolt cable; the second Thunderbolt port supports daisy chaining up to six devices.

The Twin 10G is a striking example of “form following function.” The adapter’s sleek and rugged aluminum housing effectively dissipates heat, and a temperature-tuned, ultra-quiet fan to cool the components inside enables the Twin 10G to be used comfortably in noise-sensitive environments. The Twin 10G can easily be mounted inside Sonnet’s xMac™ Pro Thunderbolt 2-to-PCIe® card expansion system and rackmount enclosure for the new Mac Pro®, as well as the RackMac™ Pro rackmount enclosure for the new Mac Pro.

The Twin 10G offers easy setup and several advanced features. Link aggregation (teaming) of its two 10GbE ports increases throughput beyond what a single connection can sustain. Transparent failover between 10GbE ports keeps the computer connected in case a single cable is disconnected or one of the ports fails. Wake-on-LAN support enables users to remote wake the attached computer when needed, without otherwise wasting energy. The Sonnet adapter is configured through the OS X® Network control panel or Windows Device Manager.

The Twin 10G (part number TWIN10G-TB2) will be available in October 2014 for $599 USD.

TC Electronic intros Reverb 8 for System 6000

Related: , , , , , , , , Posted in news on Feb 28, 2014 - comment 0 comments

TC Electronic has announced Reverb 8, a new infinite channel reverb algorithm for TC Electronic’s highly acclaimed System 6000 audio processing platform.

TC Electronic Reverb 8

A single System 6000 MKII frame is capable of running two Reverb 8 instances, delivering 16 output channels of ultra-realistic space. For an even higher channel count, multiple System 6000 MKII frames can be linked in a network, offering reverb for virtually any channel-count.

Reverb 8 may be fed with any input signal – mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1, etc. – and deliver to an infinite number of output channels, perfectly suited for e.g. Dolby Atmos (up to 62.2 surround), Barco Auro (11.1 surround) or NHK’s multichannel broadcast format Super Hi-Vision (22.2 surround). In short, Reverb 8 goes from mono to infinity, or anywhere in between.

“For more than two decades of developing and refining some of the world’s finest room simulators, we have had the infinite “Lego brick” reverb as a goal. One missing link was the ability to add credible envelopment without artifacts even when a source already contained plenty of spatial information, for instance natural reverb from a microphone pick-up,” says Thomas Lund, CTO for Broadcast & Production at TC Electronic. “Reverb 8 has that essential quality without reverting to modulation. At the same time, high density distribution is becoming available. We’re confident artists, producers and audiences everywhere will reckon the super-natural 3D sound improvement Reverb 8 has to offer.”

Reverb 8 is available to purchase for $1,825 USD. It is also available as part of Film 6000. Reverb 8 is compatible with the System 6000 MKII mainframe only.

Focusrite announces RedNet D16 AES – 16-channel AES3 I/O for Dante audio networks

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Feb 07, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Focusrite has announced RedNet D16 AES, a 1U 19in rack-mount interface featuring 16 channels of AES/EBU connectivity to and from a Dante audio network, with Ethernet redundancy for maximum network reliability.

Focusrite RedNet D16 AES

Perfect for bridging between digital consoles, power amplifiers or any other AES3 equipped audio equipment and a Dante network, RedNet D16 AES has a Sample Rate Convertor (SRC) on each input pair allowing instant operation with any AES3 source. Word Clock and Digital Audio Reference Signal (DARS) connections provides synchronisation with a wide range of hardware, while S/PDIF I/O allows the integration of equipment such as CD or solid state recorders/players.

Two DB25 connectors each provide eight channels of combined I/O to the AES59 standard, allowing speedy interconnection with other DB25-connected or XLR-based equipment by use of standard DB25 to XLR cables. The rear-panel XLR female input can be used either as a DARS sync source for the Dante system, or as an AES3 audio source replacing input channels 1–2 on the DB25 connectors. An XLR male socket provides a duplicated AES3 outlet for output channels 1–2. The RCA S/PDIF input can similarly replace input channels 3–4 of the DB25 connectors, while the S/PDIF output can replicate any adjacent odd/even pair of the 16 output channels.

The two network connectors on the rear of the unit allow two modes of operation. They can be used either as a primary/redundant network interface, allowing seamless switchover in the case of network failure, or as a daisy-chain port allowing the connection of multiple units.

All the clocking and input/output options of RedNet D16 AES are remotely-controlled by the RedNet Control software application for Mac and PC.

Focusrite RedNet will be discussing and demonstrating the full range of RedNet products at the AV Networking World event, taking place 4th February at the Amsterdam Holiday Inn during ISE.

The RedNet D16 AES has a U.S. MSRP of $1899.99 USD.
