Nine Volt Audio releases Stickbreakers Vol 3: Sync’d Cymbals Plus for Kontakt 4

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release Stickbreakers Vol 3: Sync’d Cymbals Plus for Native Instruments Kontakt 4.

Nine Volt Audio Stickbreakers Vol. 3

Stickbreakers Vol 3 – Sync’d Cymbals Plus has been created for composers that need tempo sync-able crescendo rolls, dynamic controllable rolls, a wide range of hit types, and bow, brush and “swipe” effect sounds.

Most sound libraries that offer cymbal crescendo rolls present several issues: there aren’t enough, the length and/or dynamics aren’t always right, and they slow the composer’s work flow by forcing the micro-management of sample and MIDI start times.

To address these issues, four of the seven cymbals sampled for Stickbreakers Vol 3 offer tempo-sync’d crescendo rolls ranging from one to eight beats AND dynamic controllable rolls using the modwheel. With these options, it is only a matter of hitting a key in time with the track to get the crescendo’s apex in just the right place.

Beyond the sync’d rolls, Stickbreakers’ seven cymbals offer a broad range of articulations, including: soft mallet hits, stick hits, brush hits, piatti and piatti with performed chokes.

And creating cues requiring tension, mystery or a sci-fi feel are made easy by the inclusion of well organized and simple-to-use sound menus of bowed, brushed and scraped cymbals (and a gong, too!).

With a clear and beautiful sound, Stickbreakers Vol 3 will allows composers to work with cymbals easier, faster and with greater control.

Stickbreakers Vol 3: Sync’d Cymbals Plus features

  • 4.3 GB of 44.1kHz/24bit samples (1800+) and 32 Kontakt 4 instrument patches. Download is 2.4 GB, split into multiple files.
  • “All” patches are available that combine similar articulations of different cymbals into single patches to help reduce track count.
  • Intuitive interface controls include: articulation box (displays the articulation type when key is pressed) convolution reverb (with 34 custom IR .wavs), saturation, stereo width, velocity curve, low and high pass filters, delay, low, mid and high EQ gain, AHDSR, remap knob.
  • Stickbreakers Vol 3 is compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 4.2.2.4504 or higher. The free Kontakt Player will only allow a few minutes of use before timing out.

Stickbreakers Vol 3 for Kontakt is available to purchase for $79.99 USD.

Nine Volt Audio releases Duo – Steel Tongue in Kontakt 3/4 format

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release of Duo – Steel Tongue in Kontakt 3/4 format.

Nine Volt Audio Duo - Steel Tongue

Over the last decade a number of adventurous instrument makers have used steel pans, propane tanks and custom alloy “shells” to create a new breed of melodic percussion: steel tongue drums.

Borrowing design concepts from traditional wood models, steel versions feature “tongues” of varying lengths cut into the top of the drum in a circular pattern. The drum is placed in the percussionist’s lap and is struck with fingertips for a soft sound, finger pads for a slapped sound, and thumbs for a harder tonal “knock”. Overtones of adjacent tongues ring sympathetically with the note that is being struck to create complexity of sound.

As part of Nine Volt Audio’s Duo line of products, we’ve recorded TWO steel tongue drums. The larger 1Tone is a nine-note model that originates from Israel and is tuned to the “Hitzaz” scale (sometimes written as “Hijaz”) in the key of D. It has a resonant and “ringy” quality that creates a beautiful droning background to performances. In addition to finger articulations, this drum has also been recorded with brushes.

The Garrahand is a small yet tunable model from Argentina. Despite it having only seven tongues, each was individually tuned through the sampling process to make the drum playable in a chromatic fashion. This drum has a buoyant and mellow sound with fewer overtones than the 1Tone.

Duo – Steel Tongue features

  • Nearly 3 GB of 44.1kHz/24bit samples and 34 Kontakt 3.5/4 instrument patches and multis. Download is 1.1 GB.
  • Articulations and patches for both drums include finger tip and finger slaps. The 1Tone also includes thumb hits and brushes. Patches for each drum have been created to automatically switch articulation types based on velocity or modwheel position. “Lite” versions of some patches are also available to accommodate different levels of RAM and CPU usage.
  • Each articulation includes between 25 and 40 samples per sampled note, for a total of 3114 samples. User interface controls are available to control the depth of automatic sample rotation and other humanization features.
  • “Duo” and “Unison” patches are available allowing for the simulation of two people playing simultaneously. These patches have additional “Spread” and “Detune” interface controls.
  • Arpeggiator patches include 12 patterns per patch. Patterns 1-6 are duple meter (2/4, 4/4), patterns 7-10 triple meter (3/4, 6/8), and patterns 11 and 12 are 5/4 and 7/8, respectively.
  • User interface controls are available for the Garrahand patches to alter chromatic playing modes to the instrument’s original keys and scale – along with numerous other keys and scales.
  • Additional user interface controls include: convolution reverb (with 34 custom IR .wavs), saturation, stereo width, velocity curve, low and high pass filters, delay, low, mid and high EQ gain, AHDSR, remap knob and humanization.
  • Duo Steel Tongue is compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 3.5 and up. The free Kontakt Player will allow limited use before timing out.

Duo Steel Tongue is available to purchase for $59.99 USD.

Nine Volt Audio releases Duo – Mbira in Kontakt 3/4 format

Nine Volt Audio Duo - Mbira for Kontakt

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release of Duo – Mbira for Native Instruments Kontakt 3 or higher.

With origins dating to the 1500s, the mbira’s combination of driving melody, rhythm and percussive “zing” has deep spiritual and cultural roots to areas of Africa. Sometimes referred to as a “finger xylophone”, mbiras are equipped with hand-forged iron “keys” attached to a wooden sounding board, specially chosen for their resonate qualities. Keys are plucked with the thumbs and an index finger.

At first glance the mbira resembles a kalimba, but unlike the uniform keys found on a kalimba, the mbira uses keys of varying widths, weight and thickness to create tones richer in upper harmonics and low overtones.

As part of Nine Volt Audio’s Duo line of products, we’ve recorded TWO mbiras. The larger mbira dzavadzimu originates from Zimbabwe and has 23 keys with its lowest note measuring over 7” long. The nyunga nyunga is a smaller 14 key mbira with traditional buzzers (which can be turned on or off). Having two different sampled instruments allows composers to create the signature interlocking musical relationships found in mbira music and can make one feel as if they are sitting between two players.

With over 3000 samples and patches that range from natural and earthy to reinforced and modern, Duo puts the intimate sound of the mbria at your fingertips.

Duo – Mbira for Kontakt features

  • Over 1.5 GB of 44.1kHz/24bit samples and 32 Kontakt 3.5/4 instrument patches and multis. Download is 950 MB.
  • Core natural patches are offered in “Lite”, “Medium” and “Large” sizes to accommodate different levels of RAM and CPU usage. “Large” patches have 80-100 samples per note sampled on both instruments. User interface controls are available to control the depth of automatic sample rotation and other humanization features. Humanization can approximate 8-10×10 round robin and beyond.
  • “Duo” patches are available allowing for the simulation of two people playing simultaneously. These patches have additional “Spread” interface controls.
  • Arpeggiator patches and multis include 12 patterns per patch. Patterns 1-6 are duple meter (2/4, 4/4), patterns 7-10 triple meter (3/4, 6/8), and patterns 11 and 12 are 5/4 and 7/8, respectively.
  • User interface controls are available to alter chromatic playing modes to the instruments’ original keys and scales – along with numerous other keys and scales.
  • Additional user interface controls include: convolution reverb (with 14 custom IR .wavs), saturation, stereo width, velocity curve, low and high pass filters, delay, low, mid and high EQ gain, AHDSR, remap knob and humanization.

Duo – Mbira is available to purchase for $59.99 USD.

Nine Volt Audio releases Shimmer & Shake, shaken hand percussion

Nine Volt Audio Shimmer & Shake

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release of Shimmer & Shake, a percussion sample library.

Musicians that use shaken hand percussion samples or loops have two problems:

  1. They most likely rely on a small and over used group of sounds every time they need a shaker.
  2. They go to the same selection of samples and loops because all their other shaker sounds are inconsistently edited, ill-timed, have little-to-no tempo flexibility, are missing articulations, don’t come close to sounding real when programmed, or some combination of these.

That is why we created Shimmer & Shake: a double-DVD and download collection of shaken hand percussion patches for Kontakt AND a collection of 2350 loops in the REX, Stylus RMX, Kontakt 3.5/4, ACID wav and Apple Loop formats.

Shimmer & Shake features

  • 1 GB of 44.1kHz/24bit stereo samples and 26 Kontakt 3.5/4 instrument patches comprised of 4908 samples. Download is 748 MB.
  • All patches include a wide selection of crescendo/decrescendo rolls, shakes, accent shakes, hand hits and stick hits (on tambourines).
  • User interface controls include: convolution reverb (with 14 custom IR .wavs), saturation, stereo width, velocity curve, low and high pass filters, “tight”, delay, low, mid and high EQ gain, AHDSR, remap knob and humanization.
  • Compatible with full retail versions of Native Instruments’ Kontakt 3.5 and up. The free Kontakt Player will only allow for 30 minutes of unrestricted use.
  • Shimmer & Shake features 2350 loops in the REX, Stylus RMX, Kontakt, ACID Wav & Apple Loop formats. Uncompressed, each format is approximately 3.4 GB. Downloads for each format are broken into four files between 540-660 MB. .
  • Any of the REX-based loops (used in Stylus RMX, Reason and most major sequencers like Cubase, Live, Sonar, Digital Performer, ProTools, Logic) can be used at tempos as slow as 80 BPM with no artificial stretching.
  • Using Shimmer & Shake within Stylus RMX requires the user to drag-and-drop one folder into RMX’s included S.A.G.E. Converter.
  • Fifty patches for Kontakt are supplied – 25 patches for 4/4 time and 25 for non-4/4 time. Extensive user interface controls and ease-of-use features are available on every patch. Shimmer & Shake is compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 3.5 and up. The free Kontakt Player will only allow for 30 minutes of unrestricted use.
  • All loops are in 44.1kHz/24bit resolution.

Shimmer & Shake is available on DVD or via download for $99.99 USD. The Multi-Sample or Loop portion can be purchased separately via download for $69.99 USD each.

Nine Volt Audio releases Organ Explosion: 9V-B3 Edition sample library

Nine Volt Audio Organ Explosion

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release of Organ Explosion: 9V-B3 Edition, a multi-format sample library.

Featuring the sounds of the Hammond® B-3, Organ Explosion presents 20 tightly organized song suites covering funk, blues, jazz, rock and more. With rhythmic bursts, bubbling riffs and fat back grooves, the 700+ loop collection is a go-to source for raw, infectious and emotive playing.

The Organ Explosion library takes a new an inventive approach by placing left and right hand performances into separate loops. While the left hand lays down solid basslines and the right pumps rhythm and melodies, composers have the freedom to combine loops for complete performances and the flexibility to separate them, opening up additional creative and compositional options.

Sounding spontaneous, simple and sophisticated, Organ Explosion goes from Saturday night’s jam to Sunday morning’s gospel sermon with style, syncopation and soul.

Organ Explosion: 9V-B3 Edition features

  • Organ Explosion features 706 loops in the REX2, Stylus RMX, Kontakt, ACIDized Wav and Apple Loop formats.
  • The collection is organized into 20 song suites. Each suite has clearly labeled song parts (i.e. riffs, progressions, transitions, grooves, etc.), clearly labeled key/chord progressions in the file name and an “L” or “R” to indicate the hand that is playing the loop.
  • Any of the REX-based loops (used in Stylus RMX, Reason, Kontakt and most major sequencers like Cubase, Live, Sonar, Digital Performer, ProTools, Logic) can be used at tempos as slow as 75 BPM with no artificial stretching.

Nine Volt Audio Duo – Tingklik, sample library for Kontakt

Nine Volt Audio Duo - Tingklik

Nine Volt Audio has announced the release of Duo Tingklik, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt 3/4.

Duo – Tingklik: The tingklik’s design results in a sound that is both unique and exotic yet immediately useable in a wide range of musical contexts.

Originating from Bali, these marimba-like instruments are made with bamboo, split halfway down their length, are then carved so that a closed tube resonator remains on the other half. The completed keys are mounted to a wooden frame with string, allowing them to sway when hit.

As part of Nine Volt Audio’s new Duo product line, we’ve recorded TWO tingkliks. The “Red” tingklik is a large 11-note model with its lowest bamboo note measuring over 3’ long, while the “White” is a smaller 8-note version covering a higher range.

Duo – Tingklik features

  • Nearly 720 MB of 44.1kHz/24bit samples and 40 Kontakt 3.5/4 instrument patches and multis. Download is 441 MB.
  • There are 90+ samples per note sampled on both instruments with all stick types, for a total of 3520 samples. User interface controls are available to control the depth of automatic sample rotation and other humanization features.
  • Core natural patches are offered in “Lite”, “Medium” and “Large” sizes to accommodate different levels of RAM and CPU usage.
  • “Unison” patches are available for both tingkliks allowing for the simulation of two people playing simultaneously. These patches have additional “Spread” and “Detune” user interface controls.

Duo – Tingklik is available to purchase for $59.99 USD.
