Native Instruments releases Emotive Strings for Kontakt

Native Instruments has announced the release of Emotive Strings. a new Kontakt instrument featuring live-recorded legato string phrases targeted at score composers of all skill levels, as well as producers writing for popular styles.

Native Instruments Emotive Strings

EMOTIVE STRINGS comprises 28 GB of orchestral legato string lines and arpeggios. Each phrase was carefully created based on a detailed analysis of the most successful major motion picture scores. The essence of what makes these scores so popular was distilled to form a selection of compelling string phrases with universal appeal. To ensure the highest realism possible, all phrases in EMOTIVE STRINGS were recorded live by the Budapest Scoring Symphony Orchestra. Composers can creatively arrange these phrases into fully-realized string scores of their own.

EMOTIVE STRINGS features a user interface designed for fast scoring in any key. The time-tested interface allows composers to trigger the fully-playable phrases with the left hand, while choosing the musical key with the right hand. Velocity determines major or minor tonality, allowing producers to modulate quickly with only the pressure of their fingers. Furthermore, crescendos and decrescendos can be controlled in real time from the mod wheel for flowing, fluid dynamics.

EMOTIVE STRINGS is the third KONTAKT Instrument created in cooperation with the acclaimed team at Dynamedion to be the perfect complement to the dramatic orchestral string instrument ACTION STRINGS. Together with ACTION STRIKES, they form a library of playable orchestral phrases suitable for dynamic scores in any style.

The Emotive Strings library is available for purchase for $299 USD/299 EUR/£249 GBP. The library runs in KONTAKT 5 or the free KONTAKT 5 PLAYER.

Spitfire releases Evo Grid 001 – Strings for Kontakt

Spitfire Audio has announced the release of Evo Grid 001 – Strings, a collection of long evolving chamber strings orchestrated by Ben Foskett.

Spitfire Evo Grid 001 - Strings

Performed by some of the most progressive avant garde string players in London today and recorded dry at the amazing Air-Edel studios via the finest vintage mics, neve pre-amps and vintage Cadac desk. Spitfire went about recording 48 different and very long Evos. Not just tense, mysterious and frightening Evos as with Scary Strings. But also intensely beautiful, tender and moving. Recorded across 12 intervals, and arranged on a 12 x 48 grid the true genius of this library lies in its interface…

With a GUI Inspired by the EMS VCS3 you can instantly select (or peg) what evo sits on each of the 12 key ranges. This gives you literally an almost infinite number of personalised configurations. Toggle your pegs around, or hit “Randomise”, replay the MIDI and no cue will ever sound the same twice! The pièce de résistance here though is the ability to play ultra minimal music whilst holding your audience captive with the ever changing kaleidoscope of progressive string techniques.

Whilst playing the material orchestrated by Ben Foskett, we couldn’t stop ourselves from creating an additional 5 grids of awesome warped, saturated and totally transformed versions of each and every Evo.

The Evo Grid 001 library is available for the introductory price of £134 GBP until March 2nd, 2015 (RRP £179 GBP). Requires a full version of Kontakt 4 or 5.

Sonokinetic releases Capriccio for Kontakt

Sonokinetic has announced the release of Capriccio, an orchestral instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Sonokinetic Capriccio

Capriccio is our biggest Orchestral collection yet, both in terms of physical size and in terms of sound, which is just…BIG!
We had conductor Petr Pololanik approach the limits of his Capellen orchestra for these recording sessions, and the resulting energy, drive and power really comes across in each and every sample. Each phrase has been carefully treated from conception through production to implementation in the final instrument, to make sure it would work as a whole, and be as widely usable as possible.

We say it is big, and the sound is big, but as you can hear from the demos the sound has a diverse range of uses and is only limited by your own imagination. You can use Capriccio as a base for your composition, or to complement your existing piece, using only bits and pieces. It can be really loud and awe-inspiring, or gently set the mood.

If you are familiar with our previous orchestral instrument ‘Grosso’, Capriccio’s user interface should look quite familiar. The basic structure of the instrument is the same, using 4 presets each divided in 3 layers, but there are many innovations within Capriccio that will make working with this library even more intuitive and flexible. Highlights include the ‘phrase offset’ slider, separate volume setting for release tails and MIDI drag/drop from the score view in the interface, straight into your DAW.

With Capriccio we’ve brought phrase-based sampling bang up to date. Throw away your preconceptions of stiff one-shot samples and use the power of the Capriccio interface to harmonise, syncopate, offset and blend every one of the 38,000 samples. We’ve wrung every bit of creativity and flexibility out of these phrases and built a bespoke interface that will allow you to do the same.

Despite advancements in sampling technology, you simply can’t beat the realism of live played phrases and orchestral patterns so our goal is to make these as playable as possible, like a real instrument, with the minimum of end-user programming. These instruments are meant to stimulate your creativity, and based on the feedback we are getting, that is exactly what they do.

Capriccio is available for purchase for 299.90 EUR. The library has an introductory price of 249.90 EUR until Wednesday January 21st, 3pm CET.

Cinematique Instruments releases Ensemblia for Kontakt

Cinematique Instruments has announced the release of Ensemblia, a modern chamber orchestra library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Cinematique Instruments Ensemblia

ENSEMBLIA is the sound of a modern chamber orchestra that lets you easily write organic and truly natural music. A selected range of classical instruments combined with a fine mix of unique sounds are ready for your cinematic suspense, drama and comedy or even to give a special spice to your pop and R’n’B tracks.

Ensemblia was built to easily create beautiful polyphonic chamber arrangements and textures while you are just playing chords or single notes. We didn´t recorded phrases, a powerful 16step arranger will do it.

Ensemblia can layer up to 7 instruments at the same time and gives you a quick access to a broad range of timbres and tone colors while playing. A special voicing engine will split your notes and chords automatically into separate voices and lets you individually assign them to each particular instrument.

Building Ensemblia we aimed to create a modern minimalistic ensemble sound inspired by composers such as Michael Nyman, Philip Glass or Steve Reich. Ensemblia is a really helpful and inspiring tool for composers.

Ensemblia features

  • Instruments include violin, a viola, a cello and a horn in several articulation such as spiccato, staccato, pizzicato and long notes (normal, ponticello, harmonics), up to 5 velocity layer and 4 round robin variations.
  • Also includes Baritone Trombone (re-recorded), Marimba (C2-C5), Alto Glockenspiel, Upright Piano, Shruti Box, and Bowed Psaltery from the Cinematique Instruments library.
  • 2 separate patches: „longs“ and „shorts“. Instruments are spread over 7 slots – each of them provide separate mixing and editing options in order to compose the ensemble at your own requirements.
  • Kontakt interface with a master page and a mixer page, and shorts patch has an additional arranger page that lets you define and built up polyphonic 16 step patterns.
  • Both patches have a Voicing engine that lets you easily spread certain voices to particular instruments. While playing notes or chords Ensemblia automatically analyzes your playing and splits all incoming notes into 5 voices which are low – midlow – mid – midhigh – high. You can separately assign these 5 voices to each instrument at your own requirements.
  • The Arranger, a powerful 16 step ostinato engine that sets the velocity, the voicing and the octave for each step and instrument separately. The arranger plays the flexible pattern using only notes and chords that you are holding down. As a result you get versatile and inspiring musical patterns and riffs playable in all ranges and speed variations. There are no pre-recorded phrases. Optionally you can play in- or off-sync.

The library is available for purchase for 179 EUR. Requires Kontakt 4.22 full version.
